Chanel Super Nude & Super Coral Rouge Allure Glosses

Chanel Super Nude (137) Rouge Allure Gloss
Chanel Super Nude (137) Rouge Allure Gloss

Chanel Super Nude (137) Rouge Allure Gloss ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, peachy-coral with warm undertones and very fine gold pearl. It had almost opaque color coverage, which applied smoothly without streaking, but some of the color welled up into my lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The consistency was thin but spreadable, lightweight, and just a touch tacky after a half hour of wear but never heavy or truly sticky. It wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating while worn. Charlotte Tilbury Sweet Stiletto (P, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Chic Supremacy (LE, $15.00) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Vida Loca (LE, $26.00) is warmer (95% similar). Divergent Natural Virtue (LE) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Pure Delight (LE, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Chelsea Girls (P, $26.00) is brighter (90% similar). MAC Pleasure First (LE, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Nude Illusion (060) (P, $8.99) is warmer (90% similar). Divergent Supreme Ritual (LE) is lighter (90% similar). Cle de Peau Lingerie (11) (P, $48.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). MAC Fashion Whim (LE, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Nooner (P, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Calypso Beat (LE, $20.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Artful (LE, $15.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Persistent Peach (P, $19.50) is cooler, more pigmented (90% similar). NYX Tres Leches (P, $5.99) is cooler, more pigmented (90% similar). Chanel Mystery (P, $30.00) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Dainty (-, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 302P Golden Coral (P, $19.00) is warmer, brighter, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Chanel Super Coral (157) Rouge Allure Gloss ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a slightly bright, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. It was semi-opaque with even coverage, but the slightly thinner consistency made it less smoothing and plumping on so some of the color emphasized lip lines. The formula was hydrating over the five hours it lasted on my lips. Revlon Papaya (P, $7.49) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Maui (-, $16.00) is warmer, brighter, lighter (95% similar). Chanel Sonate (178) (P, $30.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Star Quality (LE, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). Too Faced Peach Tease (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 205P Pearly Rose (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Salamanca (P, $26.00) is brighter (90% similar). Dior Rieuse (373) (P, $35.00) is warmer, brighter, lighter (90% similar). Dior Tropiques (379) (P, $35.00) is cooler, brighter, darker (90% similar). MAC Tattoo My Heart (P, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Stella (P, $26.00) is brighter, lighter (90% similar). Dior Magique (479) (P, $35.00) is cooler, brighter (85% similar). MAC Drawn in Chic (LE, $15.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Never Say Never (LE, $20.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Illamasqua Mistress (P, $22.00) is warmer, brighter, darker (85% similar). Hourglass Nectar (P, $28.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Paint It (202) (DC, $28.00) is warmer, brighter, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss ($37.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to have the “colour intensity of a lipstick” with the “shine of a lipgloss” paired with hydrating, “long-wearing coverage.” It’s a solid gloss formula for someone who likes semi-opaque to opaque coverage and doesn’t mind a bit of tackiness (I find it develops within an hour or so of wear, but it is never heavy or super sticky). I tend to get wear between four and six hours, and the formula is hydrating and comfortable over time.

BRAZILIAN NUDE

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Brazilian Nude Lipstick ($45.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark peachy brown with warm udnertones and a soft sheen. bareMinerals Honeybun (P, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Fresh Brew (P, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Rock it (LE, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly, and the consistency was lightly creamy, emollient, and didn’t tug when applied. I didn’t feel like it slid around when I wore it, which made it last a bit better–almost four hours. It was lightly hydrating and had a vanilla scent to it with no taste (to me, at least). This shade had the level of translucency where just enough of the lip color will come through and alter how warm/cool/light/dark this shade looks based on one’s natural lip color.

CHILEAN SUNSET

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Brazilian Nude Lipstick ($45.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. Colour Pop First Class (DC, $6.00) is brighter (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Tell Laura (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C403 (P, $22.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Barbecue (LE, $17.00) is more muted, lighter (95% similar). Chanel Ardente (175) (LE, $37.00) is cooler (95% similar). Maybelline Craving Coral (P, $7.99) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Mai Tai (P, $22.00) is brighter, lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Cayenne (P, $26.00) is cooler, darker (95% similar). NARS Marlene (P, $32.00) is glossier, more muted, darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Bootie (P, $5.00) is warmer, brighter, lighter (90% similar). MAC So Chaud (P, $17.00) is warmer, brighter, lighter (90% similar). Kat Von D Countess (P, $21.00) is less glossy, warmer, lighter (90% similar). Maybelline Orange Danger (P, $7.49) is more muted, darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

It had rich color coverage that went on smoothly, but the consistency itself was unforgiving and emphasized the texture of my lips with some of the color gathering in lip lines (the brightness and depth of the color made it harder to notice, at least). It felt more velvety and didn’t tug going on, but it just didn’t sit as well as on the lips overall. This shade wore well for over six hours but was a bit drying after four hours of wear. The formula was vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste. Because it’s imperfect, I think that the $45 price tag is hard to swallow, and the color itself (even the finish) is incredibly dupable–even within Estee Lauder’s permanent range.

MOROCCAN HEAT

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Moroccan Heat Lip Gloss ($36.00 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm, yellowy undertones and a cream finish. MAC Fashion Whim (LE, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Milkshake (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Ultimate Dish (LE, $15.00) is more pigmented, more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Rising Sun (P, $20.00) is warmer, more shimmery (90% similar). Sephora Cappuccino (02) (P, $12.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Divergent Supreme Ritual (LE) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Instant Crash (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Myth (LE, $15.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Naked Space (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Peachstock (LE, $15.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I found the gloss to be one of the more disappointing and lackluster (there’s a pun there, I know it!) products in the collection; it is such a weak gloss formula with the type of packaging that I know many are not enamored of, and there’s a pitiful amount of it in the container. It is strange to me that there is not even a noticeable amount of sparkle/shimmer in it to work as a layering product over the two lipsticks. It was moderately tacky, thin, difficult to spread across the lips, and then it welled into lip lines and looked a bit streaky and uneven on the lips to boot! Another thing that struck me as odd was that it is fig-scented, which is the old school Estee Lauder lip product smell, when they’ve been moving to vanilla scents (true in the Pure Color Envy line, and also true in the lipsticks from this same collection). The best part about the gloss was that it lasted for four hours on me and wasn’t drying.

MAC x Selena Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipglass

MAC Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipglass
MAC Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipglass

MAC Bidi Bidi Bom Bom Lipglass ($17.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “bubblegum pink with silver pearl.” It’s a light-medium rose pink with warm undertones and lots of silver sparkle. MAC Khaaannnn! (LE, $15.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Hack (LE) is warmer, less shimmery (90% similar). Lancome Polished Rose (01) (P, $22.00) is warmer, more pigmented (85% similar). Sephora Paradise Pink (15) (P, $12.00) is warmer, less shimmery (85% similar). Chanel Rose de Lune (LE, $30.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). MAC Bait (LE, $15.00) is warmer, lighter, less shimmery (90% similar). NARS Baby Doll (P, $26.00) is warmer, darker, less shimmery (85% similar). MAC Got Style! (P, $22.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Look Who's Here (LE, $20.00) is lighter, less shimmery (85% similar). MAC Next Fad (P, $19.50) is more pigmented, less shimmery (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

MAC Lipglass is a thicker, tackier gloss that is very shiny and makes lips look smoother, as it is more glass-like. It is vanilla-scented but has no discernible taste. This shade was slightly thinner than the average Lipglass, but it was moderately tacky, so it lasted better (four and a half hours). I found it comfortable to wear, and it was even lightly hydrating. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation (though Lipglass is described as “high coverage”), so it should work well on its own, as it doesn’t emphasize lip lines, or layered, as it isn’t fully opaque and has a lot of sparkle.

The MAC x Selena collection will be available online September 28th for MAC Select members and October 1st for all others. It will be in select store locations on October 6th–call your local store to find out if they will be one of those locations.

NARS Unspeakable, Toy, Area, Deviant Velvet Lip Glides

NARS Velvet Lip Glide
NARS Velvet Lip Glide

NARS Unspeakable Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark red-plum with warm undertones and a creamy finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that went on evenly and smoothly. The consistency had the plushness of a gloss with the creaminess of a satin lipstick, so it didn’t feel heavy or tacky, but it still had noticeable shine. This shade wore well for five hours on me, and it was moisturizing as well. NARS Plato's (LE, $26.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Berry (-, $16.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Modern Drama (LE, $20.00) is warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Apocalypse (P, $26.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Provoke (LE, $28.00) is lighter, more shimmery (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NARS Toy Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a deep, purpled burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a smattering of fine pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was even for the most part with minor color pulling into lip lines (this was a case where the color was so dark that it was hard to tell from afar). The consistency was lightweight, smooth, a little gel-li,e and comfortable to wear over the five hours it lasted for. The formula felt hydrating to me while worn. Anastasia Potion (-, $16.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Dark as Night (P, $19.50) is warmer, darker (90% similar). MAC With Gusto (LE, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NARS Area Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a deep brown with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered the lips with smooth, even color, but some of the natural lip color can come through still. The texture was lightweight, non-tacky, and comfortable to wear on the lips, while a bit of color sat in lip lines and made the ones on my bottom lip a bit more noticeable, though I didn’t really detect it from a normal viewing distance. This shade stayed on well for four and a half hours and was hydrating. Anastasia Rum (-, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Chestnut (LE, $15.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC King Pin (LE, $20.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NARS Deviant Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a rich, medium-dark reddish plum with subtle, warm undertones and a creamy finish. The texture was smooth, light-to-medium in weight, and spread well across the lips. The formula delivered rich, opaque color coverage that was even and didn’t pull into lip lines. I was able to wear this shade for just over five hours, and it felt moisturizing to me. Anastasia Berry (-, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Sin (LE, $15.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Fatale (P, $52.00) is cooler, lighter (90% similar). MAC Modern Drama (LE, $20.00) is cooler, lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Vamp (-, $16.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Lasting Achievement (P, $19.50) is cooler, darker (85% similar). Anastasia Bordeaux (-, $16.00) is warmer, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

NARS Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a hybrid between lipstick and lipgloss that is hydrating, richly pigmented, and comfortable to wear. They have stronger color payoff, a non-tacky consistency, and a smoothness to their consistency that is a lot like a good lipstick, while they have a plusher, thicker texture that gives lips a plumper, fuller look along with a glossy sheen that is more like a gloss. Some of the lighter shades settled into lip lines, but it varied from shade to shade. The wear varied between three and five hours for me, which is more like a gloss than a lipstick. They develop a more “velvety” finish, which is code for “less shine” after two to three hours, and at that point, they tend to look more like a natural finish lipstick than a gloss. I would classify the formula more as a pigmented gloss than a glossy lipstick, if I had to put it firmly in one box. The formula has a vanilla scent but had no discernible taste to me.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide
NARS Velvet Lip Glide

NARS Bound Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a cream finish. It had good color payoff, though it was not fully opaque, with a smooth, lightweight texture that was comfortable to wear and non-tacky. The only issue I had with this one was how the color gathered in lip lines noticeably. This shade wore well for four hours and was hydrating over time. MAC Viva Glam Ariana Grande 2 (LE, $15.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Lots of Laughs (P, $10.00) is lighter (80% similar). MAC Sweet Tooth (LE, $20.00) is lighter (80% similar). NARS Danceteria Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark raspberry pink with cool, blue undertones and a creamy finish. The gloss had a smooth, gel-like texture that wasn’t heavy, so it was comfortable to wear over the five hours it lasted. It had rich color payoff that applied evenly, and the color didn’t pull into lip lines either. The formula felt moisturizing while I wore it. Anastasia Barbie Pink (-, $16.00) is lighter (90% similar). Colour Pop Trinkets (LE) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Charm (LE, $20.00) is cooler (85% similar). NARS La Maine Bleue Velvet Lip Glide ($26.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark berry with cool undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation–just slight translucency that allowed my lip freckle to peek through–that covered evenly and smoothly. I found that this shade applied particularly well and did not emphasize lip lines like some of the other shades have in this range. The color wore well for just over five hours and was moisturizing while worn. MAC Twirling (LE, $20.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay After Dark (P, $26.00) is brighter, lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Electro (-, $16.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Rebel (LE, $15.00) is warmer, darker (90% similar).
