MAC Cheery Cherry Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm
MAC Cheery Cherry Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

MAC Cheery Cherry Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm ($19.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “creamy mid-tone blue pink.” In the tube, it looks like a light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and an iridescent pink pearl. It doesn’t impart much color–it adds a slight pinker tinge to my lips and a glossy shine. There is only a hint of shimmer, so it looks like a glossy balm or clear gloss (so dupes abound).

MAC Sweet Tooth Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm ($19.50 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is described as a “creamy lilac.” In the tube, it’s a cool-toned pink-lavender with subtle gold pearl. It has a slightly milky pink appearance on lips, so it emphasizes the natural pink coloring found in my lips but doesn’t impart much color. Instead, it’s mostly a glossy sheen and product that evens out my lips while keeping lips somewhat hydrating.

MAC’s Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm formula is just so-so for a lip balm–it’s nowhere near as hydrating as many other well-known lip balms (and not as good as MAC’s own Tinted Lip Conditioner). I could hardly tell the difference between the two of them applied, so I don’t think having both is necessary–unless you’re a huge fan of the formula! If it were as moisturizing as it was made out to be, I’d like it a lot more, but it’s just so hard to get excited over a product that’s this sheer and only a lightly hydrating when worn (but gave me no lasting moisture). The wear time on these two shades was around two hours, but I have no problem admitting that it was very hard to tell, since there was a lot of color to track–I mostly went on sheen and shimmer and a magnifying mirror.

MAC Glace Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm
MAC Glace Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

MAC Glace Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm ($19.50 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “creamy pale baby blue.” In the tube, it’s a cloudy, pale blue with iridescent pink-copper shimmer. It’s actually very, very similar to MAC Chillin’, except Chillin‘ is a bit milkier. MAC Ethereal is more shimmery.

On lips, it cancels out some of my natural lip color and gives it a cooler cast while adding a touch of shimmer and general milkiness. It’s not like you’re wearing a bright blue gloss, though (which may have been what you were wanting or may have been what was keeping you away!). The formula is only supposed to give a tint of color along with a high shine, while being incredibly moisturizing. It’s so-so in the hydration department–enough that lips feel nourished while worn, but the formula doesn’t impart any long-lasting hydration. The color payoff is sheer but gives lips a milky appearance while allowing the natural lip color to come through. Glace wore for three hours, and the texture was just a touch tacky from the start and gradually became tackier as it wore on.

MAC Baking Beauty Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm
MAC Baking Beauty Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

MAC Baking Beauty Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm ($19.50 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “creamy light peach.” It looks like a yellowed tangerine in the tube, but applied, it takes on a lighter, peachier coloring with subtle pink shimmer. It is similar to shades like NARS Buenos Aires, MAC Kiss Me Softly, and MAC Poetic License.

This formula is supposed to “[add] moisture while providing the right pop of color and mirror-like shine.” It has a thicker consistency (somewhere between Lipglass and Lustreglass), a slight tackiness, which gets tackier the longer you wear it, and is slightly hydrating but doesn’t replace other standalone lip balms I’ve used. Baking Beauty has semi-sheer color payoff, though it generally translates to more of a nude-ish shade on my lips, you can see how much “covers” my lip freckle to get a better grasp on the coverage. It only wore two hours on me, which was shorter than I’ve experienced with the original release of shades

bareMinerals Tangerine Trance Loud & Clear Lip Sheer
bareMinerals Tangerine Trance Loud & Clear Lip Sheer

Tint Your Lips with Tangerine this Spring

bareMinerals Tangerine Trance Loud & Clear Lip Sheer ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “sheer citrus orange.” It’s a sheer, warm orange when swatched. Applied, it tints my lips a noticeable warm tangerine–not too red, not too orange. It’s the least like my natural lip color, but from a normal distance, it really looks natural and not at all like I’m wearing a lip color. Benefit Cha Cha is similar in color, but it has a very different formula.

With a comfortable, buttery balm-like consistency and texture, it doesn’t feel sticky or too slick that it slides around and disappears within an hour.  Tangerine Trance lasted three hours as a stain, but the moisture it added continued to be felt for another two hours after it was long gone.  It’s lightweight, orange-scented and -flavored with the former being particularly strong and noticeable.  I don’t notice the scent after it’s been on for a half hour or so.

For someone who wants just a tint of color that looks like they're not wearing any lip color, except for a little balm for a natural shine, this is right up your alley.

bareMinerals Amped Pink Loud & Clear Lip Sheer
bareMinerals Amped Pink Loud & Clear Lip Sheer

Just a Sheer Tint of Color

bareMinerals Amped Pink Loud & Clear Lip Sheer ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “sheer fuchsia pink.” When swatched, it was a sheer medium pink–it read neutral, almost yellow-toned, even though it certainly looked fuchsia in the tube. On lips, it made my lips look brighter, pinker, and generally kept the corpse-lip look at bay. It has a soft shine to finish it off. NARS Beverly Hills is slightly darker.

The formula has a really nice glide-on texture that’s not sticky, too wet/slick, and is very comfortable to wear. It adds hydration to lips not just during wear but beyond it, too, and after wearing it for half a day or longer, I can get away with not reaching for another lip balm for at least as long. As described, the color is sheer and just a tint of color, so it acts as a lip stain/lip balm hybrid. Amped Pink wore for three hours on me. There is a noticeable sweet, orange scent and flavor, though the flavor is less noticeable.

bareMinerals Berry Remix Loud & Clear Lip Sheer
bareMinerals Berry Remix Loud & Clear Lip Sheer

A Tint for Natural Beauty

bareMinerals Berry Remix Loud & Clear Lip Sheer ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “sheer ripe berry.” When swatched, it looks like a sheer, glossy berry pink. Applied, it tints my lip color to a slightly darker pink, but it still looks sheer and natural. It looked similar to NARS Beverly Hills or NARS Cadaques (or really, a mix).

bareMinerals’ Loud & Clear Lip Sheers are supposed to have translucent color, soft shine, and hydrating properties (from shea butter and jojoba seed oil), which is all put into a gel-based formula. Berry Remix is the most “pigmented” shade out of three available; this is the one that had a particularly visible effect of staining my lips. It’s still a very sheer effect, just as bareMinerals described. If you have naturally pigmented lips and hoped to see some tint, this is the one I’d recommend of the three.

The consistency is slick, gel-like, and non-sticky. It glided on easily, and it didn’t drag or pull at the lips. When I applied the Lip Sheer, it almost felt like it melted against my lips. There is a fairly heavy, sweet orange and a slight orange flavor to the product. The stain lasts for three hours or so, and the formula is nicely hydrating and lasts for a short period of time beyond the wear of the product. For someone who wants just a tint of color that looks like they’re not wearing any lip color, except for a little balm for a natural shine, this is right up your alley.
