Wet ‘n’ Wild Sagreena the Teenage Witch Nail Lacquer

Wet ‘n’ Wild Sagreena the Teenage Witch Nail Lacquer

Wet ‘n’ Wild Sagreena the Teenage Witch Nail Lacquer ($1.99 for 0.46 fl. oz.) is a vibrant emerald green with lighter green shimmer. It’s nearly opaque after two coats (which is what I have swatched)–there’s the barest hint of visible nail line at certain angles. This is a much better affordable version of emerald green! I tried Sinful Colors HD, which just didn’t have the payoff. Zoya Holly is a deeper emerald green. This shade is perfect for the holiday season, and it won’t break the bank 🙂  The consistency on Sagreena the Teenage Witch wasn’t too thick or thin, so it flowed across the nail evenly and didn’t feel too thick when dry.  I didn’t experience any bubbling or streaking during application.

I really like Wet ‘n’ Wild’s formula–it wears a week with minor tip wear–but it doesn’t try in sixty seconds like the brand claims (and it’s kind of a big claim, since the official name is Fast Dry!).  It takes more like two minutes or so for each coat to dry; it feels about average across brands.  I only find that thicker polishes tend to take longer to dry, but most will dry enough to apply a second coat within a couple of minutes.  You definitely won’t have fully dry nails within sixty seconds, though, and I’d say still use a fast drying top coat to ensure dry nails!

Illamasqua Force Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Force Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Nail Varnish Force ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep electric blue.” It’s a really rich, cornflower blue with a creamy finish, and it even has a faint purpleness to it. It almost looks purple in certain lighting–more royal blue than electric blue to me! Deborah Lippmann I Know What Boys Like is similar but bluer. Essie Declare Your Denim is a bit darker and bluer.

It’s opaque in two coats, and like many Illamasqua shades, the formula is excellent; the polish flows across the nail easily, doesn’t streak or bubble, and never feels too thick. Illamasqua is one of the longest wearing polishes on me; I can wear their formula for ten days or longer and only have minimal tip wear, which is just barely on the edges. When I travel, I often reach for an Illamasqua shade, because I know it will hold up to the vigors of traveling.

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer

A Look at Deborah Lippmann’s Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer

Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “carefree coral” with a creme finish. It’s a vibrant, just shy of being neon, shade of coral-red. Though it certainly is a cream finish, it has that squishy look to it of a jelly to me as well. I loved that this lacquer was opaque in two coats! As far as similar shades go, SpaRitual Love & Happiness is pretty close, perhaps a touch darker. Illamasqua Lament is pinker.

The flow of Girls Just Want to Have Fun is excellent; it spreads evenly across the nail without streaking or bubbling. It has a good consistency–not too thick or thin. Deborah Lippmann’s polishes tend to wear well on me; I typically get a week of wear with minor to minimal tip wear. This was originally launched during the summer (I have a major backlog!), but it’s still available and for those who are 1) having summery weather now or 2) wear seasonally inappropriate shades, enjoy! 🙂

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “purple/gray” or “gravender” as Cult Nails calls it. It’s a light-medium grayish purple with sparse white shimmer that’s opaque in two coats. I’d say the closest shade I have to it is Rescue Beauty Lounge Insouciant, which is a few shades darker and less gray. Shades like Nubar Purple Aster and Zoya Marley are much lighter.

The formula is excellent–it wears really well without bubbling, chipping, or streaking. The lacquer applies evenly and flows well on the nail, and after a week, there is minimal tip wear. One of the best things about the brand is that you’re supporting an independent company and truly making someone’s dream come true–and when you have a great back story with a quality product? It doesn’t get any better.

Glitter Gal Light as a Feather Nail Lacquer

Glitter Gal Light as a Feather Nail Lacquer

Glitter Gal Light as a Feather Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.30 fl. oz.) is a pale, cloudy gray with linear holographic shimmer. The shimmer looks mostly like white micro-shimmer more often than not, but you can definitely catch the holographic flash. If you’re unfamiliar with holographic polishes, the shimmer gives it a rainbow effect–you’ll see red, orange, gold, green, and blue/blue-violet. It’s not just one or two colors, it’s a slew of them. Nubar Earthen is the closest dupe I had to the base color, but it’s a much more of putty gray, less blue-based, and of course, it is not holographic.

This particular shade was almost opaque in two coats, but there was a faint sign of visible nail line. I’ve been really happy with Glitter Gal’s formula, though, because it wears like iron–I wore this exact shade for seven days without chipping and, again, minimal tip wear. The polish has a good consistency, right between thick and thin, with even flow; no bubbling, streaks, or thickening along the sides.

Color Club Backstage Pass Nail Lacquer

Color Club Backstage Pass Nail Lacquer

Color Club Backstage Pass Nail Lacquer ($6.67 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “silver and purple hex glitter.” The description is really dead-on; it’s silver and magenta purple hexagonal glitter pieces. Both have a fairly metallic/mirror-like finish. The glitter is then suspended in a thick, clear base.  I couldn’t think of anything similar for comparison.

On one hand, I think this looks pretty spectacular, if only because it’s 3D and unlike other polishes I own, but on the other hand, it wears terribly (the glitter flakes off, even if you layer two top coats on top), because the hexagonal glitter particles are curved right around the edges. They just don’t stay put. Application requires significant patience and effort; this is not a quickie polish at all. You have to apply a blob of polish (the consistency is quite thick) and then use the brush to pull out the polish and push and pull the glitters into place. I showed three coats, just so you could see how “opaque” it could get.
