Chanel Fracas Le Vernis / Nail Colour
Chanel Fracas Le Vernis / Nail Colour

Chanel Fracas Le Vernis / Nail Colour ($26.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant pink.” It’s a brightened, reddened pink with warm undertones and a light dusting of golden shimmer. The shimmer is incredibly fine, though, and even under flash, I could hardly see it. Dior Pasteque is a bit brighter, no shimmer. NARS Anardana is pinker and has no shimmer. L’Oreal The Queen’s Might is redder. Illamasqua Collide is brighter and pinker, less red.

This shade was incredibly rich in pigment–it was very nearly opaque in a single coat, but I used two for swatches (I think two would still be best, unless you did a thicker single coat).  Fracas was interesting, because it doesn’t look as bright and neon in natural light as it does in fuller/brighter light, so it is a bit of a chameleon.  I wish the shimmer was more visible, because as is, it looks more like a cream than anything else.  The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and the color flowed beautifully across the nail without pooling, bubbling, or streaking.  I usually see a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chipping with Chanel’s nail formula.

It's a surprising pop of color within a subtler, more subdued spring collection. It's very summery, because of how bright it is, so it will work well during both seasons.

Chanel Emprise Le Vernis / Nail Colour
Chanel Emprise Le Vernis / Nail Colour

Chanel Emprise Le Vernis / Nail Colour ($26.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “natural rosy beige.” It’s a warm, not-quite-peachy, beige with very, very fine shimmer. The shimmer only becomes apparent under a lot of light, like flash. There’s a hint of rosiness to the color, too, and I suspect on pinker complexions, it will become more obvious. MAC Style Tip is a touch darker and has no shimmer. Rescue Beauty Lounge Sheer Nude is more beige and has no shimmer. MAC Hangin’ Loose is lighter. Chanel Tendresse is similar–creamier, no shimmer, almost jelly-like. Chanel Peche Nacree is a little darker, warmer.

Emprise is opaque after two coats, and the consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin.  The one thing I did notice was that the first coat of color would get pulled a bit (and then look streaky) if you didn’t wait for the first coat to dry down fully.  It didn’t bubble or pool along the sides, and it flowed easily across the nail.  I typically get a week of wear out of Chanel’s lacquers with minor tip wear but no chipping.

It's an easy-to-wear beige--there's a very fine dusting of shimmer that gives it more interest than a pure cream, but it's so fine that it's hard to see most of the time.

China Glaze Winter Holly Nail Lacquer
China Glaze Winter Holly Nail Lacquer

Deck the Halls with Winter Holly

China Glaze Winter Holly Nail Lacquer ($7.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “gold-flecked dazzling green glitter.” It’s a mix of fine gold and emerald green glitter suspended in a clear base. When applied, there appears to be a few flecks of other colors as well, but it is predominantly gold and green glitter particles. I couldn’t think of a dupe (but we’re definitely building up the glitter polish gallery!). Even when it’s layered over black, it’s quite different compared to last year’s Glittering Garland.  It seems simple at first, but depending on the breadth of your glitter polish stash, comes across as more complex when applied.

I applied two coats of it alone on my index and ring finger, and I layered one coat over one coat of black polish (Illamasqua Boosh).  It’s a shade best for layering, and I think it’s going to be a color that looks superb over dark creams.  The consistency was thin but not watery, so even layering three or four coats with this shade is possible without resulting in a thick sandwich of polish.  For layering, it packs a good amount of glitter in a single coat, and the glitter spreads evenly across the nail without any trickery.  If you’ve been hesitant about glitters because of thicker bases or having to maneuver bits and pieces around, this is a great glitter to start with.

Dior Mango (438) Nail Lacquer
Dior Mango (438) Nail Lacquer

A Ripe, Juicy Mango of a Polish

Dior Mango (438) Nail Lacquer ($23.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “deliciously fruity and radiant yellow.” It is a brightened tangerine orange with a cream finish. China Glaze Orange You Hot is darker, more orange. Zoya Arizona is more orange. China Glaze Papaya Punch is a darker orange. China Glaze Sun Worshipper is closest but brighter–almost neon.

The formula is a smidgen on the thicker side, so it takes a little longer to dry, and it’s best to let the first coat dry down before applying the second, as it has a tendency to pull/drag more so than other polishes.  The color coverage was mostly opaque after two coats, and it didn’t pool along the edges.  I typically get a week of wear with minor tip wear but no chipping.

Bright enough to be summery, but not so bright that it turns neon, it still dries down to a shiny finish without need for a top coat.

China Glaze Def Defying Nail Lacquer
China Glaze Def Defying Nail Lacquer

A Beautiful, Creamy Chartreuse by China Glaze

China Glaze Def Defying Nail Lacquer ($7.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “lime green” with a cream finish. It’s a brightened chartreuse green with a cream finish. Dior Lime is a few shades darker. Sinful Colors Innocent is yellower. NYX Lime is shimmery. China Glaze Electric Pineapple is yellower. Illamasqua Radium is similar but does have fine shimmer in it, too.

This is a beautiful representation of when China Glaze nails a polish.  Def Defying is fully opaque in two coats, and the consistency is flawless–not too thick or too thin–so it coats evenly, fluidly, and doesn’t streak or bubble.  It dries down in the average amount of time, but it is forgiving if you apply a second coat too quickly.  China Glaze’s formula typically lasts a week on me without chipping (just minor tip wear).

Lacquistry Wattle Over With That Stuffing Nail Lacquer
Lacquistry Wattle Over With That Stuffing Nail Lacquer

Did Someone Say Stuffing?

Lacquistry Wattle Over With That Stuffing Nail Lacquer ($8.75 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as “warm shimmering sand tones with golden flecks and deep green with a whisper of brown for seasoning.” The smallest bits are golden copper, along with a few silver pieces. Then there are squares of champagne and small and large hexagons of emerald green and copper.

Two coats resulted in semi-opaque coverage–there is some visible nail peeking through wherever it’s mostly the smaller copper glitter (Lacquistry showed in their preview two coats where it was mostly opaque). I used one coat alone on my thumb (I meant to do two!) and two coats alone on my pinky, and then I layered one coat over Deborah Lippmann’s Through the Fire. I thought I had done two coats on my thumb, but upon re-doing two coats while writing the review, I definitely only did one!

The consistency of this shade was really good; thick enough to hold all the various shapes and sizes of glitter but not so thick that it was difficult to apply or pooled along the edges. All of the glitter particles spread well across the nail just applying it as you would a normal polish. I didn’t have to play tug o’ war to get an even look. I haven’t tested this particular shade, but I have tested four Lacquistry glitters for wear, both alone and layered over various other polishes, and on me, they last seven days without chipping or flaking off. This one wasn’t too gritty/bumpy, but I’d still recommend a thicker top coat. Lacquistry will be re-stocking her holiday shades sometime next week (per their Facebook).

Lacquistry Wattle Over With That Stuffing Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

A-
This glitter had a good consistency that wasn't too thick or too thin, and the glitter spread evenly and didn't require any pulling or tugging to get the glitter to lie flat or look even across the nail.
