Bobbi Brown Golden Pink Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

Bobbi Brown Golden Pink Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick
Bobbi Brown Golden Pink Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

Bobbi Brown Golden Pink Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “shimmering pink peach.” It’s a shimmering peach with a golden champagne sheen and warm undertones. Estee Lauder Pink Zinc is rather similar, perhaps a bit more pink-toned. MAC Sweet Heat is darker, pinker. MAC Fusion Gold is lighter. Chanel Emerveille is comparable.

The new Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks are supposed to wear for eight hours, have good color payoff, and a glide-on consistency.  Golden Pink has a fantastic texture and feel; it’s creamy enough to apply evenly and with full color coverage without tugging or pulling on the lid, but it stays put and doesn’t crease while you wait for it to dry down.  It sets quickly, but you have enough time to blend and smooth out any edges if you wear it as an eyeshadow or alone.  The lighter color gives it added versatility, as it can be used as an eyeshadow base to add warmth and increase vibrancy of other eyeshadows.  Golden Pink wore a full eight hours on me with no creasing, fading, or smudging; it was still in very good shape after ten hours.

Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow

Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow
Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow

Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “shimmering light teal.” It’s a bright green-teal with a soft, frosted finish. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #4 is bluer, darker. MAC Fashion Circuit is darker. Maybelline Edgy Emerald is similar. NYX Seafoam Green is a bit darker. MAC Partylicious is a touch darker and brighter.

It had decent pigmentation applied dry, but it was more intensified and closer to full color coverage when applied wet. I had an odd problem with this shade: it applied in a very crumbly, uneven fashion. I would apply it–even damp!–and it would just… ball up on itself in a way. It looked patchy, a little faded, and it took a lot of packing on of the color to get mostly even color. It was an unusual experience, and it’s definitely not something I experience often with powder eyeshadows.  The texture, in the pan, felt soft, smooth, and dense, but it just didn’t apply that way.  When I wore it, there was some signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear (no primer).

Benefit Skinny Jeans Creaseless Cream Shadow

Benefit Skinny Jeans Creaseless Cream Shadow ($20.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “pretty pewter.” It’s a dirty taupe brown with a sprinkling of champagne shimmer and a metallic sheen. It runs slightly cool-toned on the skin and in the pot; it may look even cooler-toned on those with naturally cool complexions. MAC Silver Birch is lighter, grayer. MAC Modern Pewter is much lighter.

Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow

Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow

Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “emerald green with silver glitter.” It’s a darkened, aqua green with silver and aqua glitter and metallic finish. Tom Ford Emerald Lust is darker, less green. Giorgio Armani Ecailles Black Pearl is bluer. Becca Luella is a touch darker.

This shade applied better with a dampened brush, because the color was weak dry, and there was a ton of glitter fall out if the eyeshadow was patted on dry. Unfortunately, while applying it damp helped to improve color payoff and minimize fall out, it did not apply evenly or smoothly; it looked patchy and faded from the get-go. With this particular shade, I think the only way to really get the color to come through is by layering it over a green/teal (or white) colored base.

Bobbi Brown Forest Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

Bobbi Brown Forest Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick
Bobbi Brown Forest Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

Bobbi Brown Forest Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “cool emerald green.” It’s a deep, dark, smoldering emerald green with cool undertones and a soft, frosted finish. Sephora Walk on the Wild Side is greener, lighter, and a powder product. Urban Decay Loaded is bluer and a powder eyeshadow. bareMinerals Max Volume is slightly darker. OCC Poison is greener, less teal. theBalm Jealous Jordana is the most comparable.

Bobbi Brown claims that her new Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks should last “eight hours without creasing, flaking, or fading.” Forest had good color payoff in a single pass, and it was buildable enough to get mostly opaque color, though there was some very slight sheerness if you looked really closely. From afar, I doubt anyone could tell. As an eyeliner, it is easier to apply it with enough pressure to get really opaque color, but the tip of this is a bit bigger than a regular pencil eyeliner. What I liked about the consistency was that it didn’t tug or pull on the eyelid, and it didn’t take too long or too little time to set–there was enough time to work the product in or blend it out, but I didn’t have to sit there and close my eyes waiting for the seconds to tick by for fear of it creasing before it set.

I also think that the brand was rather reasonable with their long-wear claim, only going for eight hours, rather than more ambition 12-, 16-, or even 24-hour wear.  Forest lasted well for eight hours; it was after ten hours that I saw some very faint creasing only on the innermost corner (I wore it all over the lid for testing).  I didn’t have any trouble with flaking, fading, or smudging, though.  All in all, Forest was impressive; not too creamy that it would take awhile to set but not so dry that it didn’t glide easily over lids.

Also, if you were ever a fan of MAC’s Shadesticks, I felt that these were rather comparable in feel and formula, though perhaps a smidgen creamier and more refined–like an improved Shadestick.

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow
Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mirror dark green.” It’s a subtly warmed-up forest green with a soft, golden olive undertone and a green-gold shimmer with a frosted, metallic finish. L’Oreal Golden Emerald is lighter, warmer. Inglot #414 is cooler-toned, tealer. Inglot #418 is greener. Make Up For Ever #310 is less metallic.

When applied dry, it had rather disappointing color payoff; it appeared dry and a bit uneven, and overall, semi-sheer. When applied with a damp brush, it took on a much more intense color; it applied more evenly, smoothly, and was mostly opaque. Sephora’s Mirror finish is interesting, because it has the sparkling quality of a glitter eyeshadow matched with the reflective quality of a metallic finish but without the fall out problems.  While it didn’t wear the full ten hours Sephora claimed, it did hold up well; there was only some very minor fading along the edges.
