Giorgio Armani #10 Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette

Giorgio Armani #10 Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette
Giorgio Armani #10 Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette

Giorgio Armani #10 Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette ($59.00 for 0.212 oz.) is a warm-toned palette that features four shades of shimmery eyeshadows. The brand describes them as “iridescent, eye-catching colors” that are “crease-proof.”

#10 #1 is a light-medium beige with copper and champagne shimmer. It has subtle warm undertones and a pearly finish. Jasmine Sultana is less warm-toned. Cinderella Midnight Hour is lighter. L’Oreal Blinged & Brilliant is more metallic, slightly more beige. Chanel Eclosion #3 is browner. It has good color payoff, and the texture is soft and silky smooth.

#10 #2 is a warm-toned, light-medium gold with a frosted finish. Chanel Pearl River #2 is lighter. Tarte Bellini is somewhat lighter. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #1 is a few shades lighter, less orange-y. Dior Couture Gold #2 is more metallic. It had good pigmentation and had a finely-milled texture.

#10 #3 is a softened, copper-shimmered orange with brow undertones and a frosted finish. Guerlain Turandot #1 is a touch lighter. Milani Gold Dust is very similar. Giorgio Armani #1 Spring 2012 #3 is more metallic. The color payoff was good, but the texture was a little powdery, even though it felt very soft.

#10 #4 is a medium-dark, warm-toned brown with a soft golden pearl.  Flower Beauty Foxy Browns #2 is somewhat warmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #7 is more golden. MAC Mulch has a redder tone. Urban Decay Deeper is darker. It had so-so color payoff, which did appear to have better pigment when I applied it to the lid, but it was powdery as it was so, so soft.

This is a palette that performs better applied to the lid than it seems like it would when just swatched.  The texture is very soft across the board, and as a result, two of the shades seemed a little powdery, but on the lid, there was no powderiness, excess product, or chalkiness.  Everything looked soft, smooth, and almost as if it had melted to the lid.  Those soft textures made blending effortless, and the shades blended into each other so easily.  The palette coordinates well, and with the warmer toned shades, would tend to flatter warmer complexions the most (but there’s no reason cooler complexions who normally like golds and coppers on themselves should avoid it).  When I wore the palette, all four shades lasted nine hours without creasing or fading (no primer), which was impressive.

Fyrinnae Jade Ghost Eyeshadow

Fyrinnae Jade Ghost Eyeshadow
Fyrinnae Jade Ghost Eyeshadow

Fyrinnae Jade Ghost Eyeshadow ($8.25 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “slightly shimmery pale white-green … “an iridescent glow of light green shimmer and a touch of subdued sparkle.” It’s a pale, aqua green with a subtle golden shimmer-sheen. I don’t really have anything quite like this in my stash. Lancome Fashion Forward is the closest, but it is bluer and less golden. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #4 is greener, less aqua/pastel.

Jade Ghost has a very soft texture that really starts breaking away the moment your brush hits the surface, so be careful not to swirl your brush too much in it, as you won’t need to in order to get the powder onto your brush. It is slightly powdery as a result. When applied over Fyrinnae’s Pixie Epoxy, it loses all trace of powderiness, and the powder smooths out. Applied dry, it is ever-so-slightly powdery but still has good color payoff. It is prone to sheering out when used dry, though. I tried it without any base, and then I also wore it over Pixie Epoxy, and with no base, it lasted seven hours well but had some fading after eight hours, while over Pixie Epoxy, it lasted eight hours without creasing or fading. Pixie Epoxy is not a primer, but it is so commonly used with Fyrinnae’s eyeshadows that I felt it imperative to test it underneath the eyeshadow.

If you prefer your eyeshadows loose, this shade began its life as one, and you can purchase it in loose form as well. The pressed eyeshadows should be restocked soon, per Fyrinnae’s website.

Estee Lauder Sinister Stay-On Shadow Paint

Estee Lauder Sinister Stay-On Shadow Paint
Estee Lauder Sinister Stay-On Shadow Paint

Estee Lauder Sinister Stay-On Shadow Paint ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is medium-dark black with silver sparkle. MAC Blackground has a warmer base and smaller shimmer. Urban Decay Oil Slick is also a bit warmer (and a powder product). Buxom Black Lab is similar but has multi-colored sparkle.

It had so-so color payoff; it is more easily applied as a sheer wash of color (so then it turns into a dark gray), and if you attempt to build up the color, it doesn’t work out so well. It tended to bunch up and layer in odd ways so that it didn’t give you a smooth, even result. The texture was smoother than Steel, but it had a very dry, almost flaky texture once it dried down. The color came off in chunks throughout the day. I tested it twice just to be sure, but it was the same: splotchy color, fall out, and then light creasing after eight hours.

Illamasqua Creep Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Creep Eyeshadow
Illamasqua Creep Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Creep Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “soft lavender purple.” It’s a light-medium lavender purple with cool undertones and a matte finish. There are several lavender eyeshadows that I’ve come across, but I haven’t seen anything this cool-toned. The closest shade I could think of was MAC Water & Ice #2 which is more silvered and very frosted.

Creep had decent to good color payoff, but it didn’t yield full, opaque color.  The texture was very soft and finely-milled, but it was noticeably powdery, so it was prone to sheering out during application and tended to fade while worn.  Because the powderiness, it would work better over a slightly creamy or tacky base, because it would give the powder something to adhere to, so it would appear more pigmented and wear better.  It lasted six hours well but looked significantly faded after eight hours of wear.

NARS Fashion Rebel Eyeshadow Duo

NARS Fashion Rebel Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Fashion Rebel Eyeshadow Duo

NARS Fashion Rebel Eyeshadow Duo ($34.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “dandelion and African frost.” It’s a brighter, bolder duo that is being added to the permanent range. The combination is one you’ll either love or loathe, because it’s bold, bright, and not a pairing that everyone gravitates towards.

Fashion Rebel #1 is a mostly matte yellow with orange-y undertones–not quite a goldenrod shade but close. Jasmine Cave of Wonders is shimmery. Sephora Banan Split is frosted. Inglot #323 is yellower. Illamasqua Hype is lighter, more matte. The color payoff was just so-so–it really needs to be packed and pressed on, as the texture is on the stiffer side. In order to get even, more opaque color, I had to use NARS’ primer underneath.

Fashion Rebel #2 is a pink-tinged violet with a matte finish. MAC Spoiled Rich is darker, purpler. bareMinerals Statement is pinker. Sugarpill 2AM is lightly shimmered and brighter. Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet has a light shimmer. Urban Decay Purple Haze is darker. Inglot #334 is more lavender. It had a powdery texture, so it was prone to sheering out in places. The best way to apply this shade was to press and pat it on, then lightly blend around the edges very, very carefully. Like the yellow, it was hard to use without a primer, because the color payoff was so sheer.

I’m not keen on this eyeshadow duo as a result of the sheerer color payoff and less-than-stellar textures.  The yellow shade was stiff and required a lot of layering to build up the color, while the purple shade was powdery and prone to sheering out–and both absolutely needed a primer to even work half-decently.  When worn without a primer, they both were somewhat faded after eight hours, while when worn with a primer, there was less fading but still slight fading of the purple shade (but the yellow was fine).

NARS Euphrate Eyeshadow

NARS Euphrate Eyeshadow
NARS Euphrate Eyeshadow

NARS Euphrate Eyeshadow ($24.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “frosted mint steel.” It’s a cool-toned, green-tinged, light-medium gray with a frosted, silver shimmer. MAC Moss Garden is more metallic. Chanel Riviere is warmer, less gray. MAC Fresh & Mint is more frosted. Urban Decay Money is darker. It’s funny: I thought this was more unique than not, but it turns out that is not quite the case! The finish of Euphrate is smoother/less metallic in comparison to other shades, though.

Euphrate had good color payoff, and it applied smoothly overall. It was a smidgen powdery when I applied all over the lid directly (no primer), but it applied more smoothly when I applied it over NARS’ eyeshadow primer. The color worked well when paired with NARS Barrow Street eyeliner (from this collection as well). Without a primer, it lasted for eight hours but was slightly faded along the edges. NARS’ eyeshadow is supposed to be “highly pigmented, long-wearing, [and] crease-resistant.”
