NYX Bronzed & Glow HD Blushes

NYX Bronzed HD Blush
NYX Bronzed HD Blush

NYX Bronzed HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a softened, medium copper-brown with warm, reddish undertones and a luminous sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable consistency that was a smidgen powdery but didn’t look it on the skin. The blush seemed to “melt” against the skin to a degree, as the finish had a natural sheen that didn’t emphasize pores but helped the skin look like skin. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me. Colour Pop Non-Fiction (LE, $8.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Elegance (370) (P, $45.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Passionate (23) (P, $14.00) is brighter, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Jersey (80) (P, $45.00) is cooler, less shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Alezane (260) (P, $45.00) is darker, less shimmery (85% similar). MAC Peachtwist (P, $22.00) is cooler, more shimmery (90% similar). Black Opal Rose Gold (P, $8.95) is darker (90% similar). Makeup Geek Ablaze (P, $20.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Marsala (LE, $25.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Liberation (Right) (LE) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). NYX Deep Plum (P, $6.50) is cooler, darker (90% similar). MAC Highlight the Truth (LE, $32.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Fervor (Right) (P) is darker, more shimmery (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury The Climax (P, $40.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Cheek Studio III (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Canaille (89) (LE, $45.00) is warmer, darker (90% similar). MAC Make You Mine (P, $23.50) is cooler, darker (85% similar). Edward Bess Ciao (P, $45.00) is lighter, more shimmery (85% similar). Clinique Fig Pop (P, $21.00) is cooler, brighter (85% similar). Guerlain #02 (P, $53.00) is warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NYX Glow HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium, orange-toned brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had nice color payoff, while the soft, silky texture made it easy to blend out the edges or to sheer it out, if desired. The texture gets a little powdery, as it is so soft, but it doesn’t look powdery on the skin. When I tried it, the blush lasted for eight hours before fading. Colour Pop Santos (LE, $8.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). Laura Geller Honeysuckle (P, $28.00) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Colour Pop Glo Up (LE, $8.00) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). IT Cosmetics Warm Radiance (P, $34.00) is cooler, less shimmery (90% similar). Suqqu Hanachaori (02) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Benefit 10 (Bronzer) (DC, $28.00) is darker, less shimmery (85% similar). Urban Decay Paranoid (P, $26.00) is darker, less shimmery (85% similar). Makeup Geek Ignite (P, $20.00) is darker (85% similar). LORAC Unapologetic (LE) is warmer, darker (85% similar). MAC Liberating (LE, $22.00) is darker, less shimmery (80% similar). Laura Geller Sunswept (P, $28.00) is darker (80% similar). MAC Aphrodite's Shell (LE, $33.00) is lighter, less shimmery (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA SUMMARY | NYX’s newest blush formula is supposed to be a “high definition, lightweight blush that blends evenly” that is “vibrant and silky.” The texture tended to be on the more powdery side, but it sits well and doesn’t look powdery applied. Many shades have a more luminous finish to them where the shimmer is fine enough to create a glow, rather than a frosted finish (though a couple are quite shimmery). The formula blends fairly easily on the skin and has medium, buildable coverage with some being very pigmented right off the bat. The wear time is between seven and eight hours.

See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

MAC’s Powder Blush formula is supposed to be easy to apply, long-wearing, and have “fantastic colour.” It’s hard to generalize for MAC’s blush formula, because it varies a lot from shade to shade, even within different types of finishes! Some of them are very good, others are so-so, and a few are complete misses. The more frosted/shimmery shades tend to have the softest and smoothest textures and are easier to apply and blend out on the skin, while more satin and matte shades can sometimes be powdery, firm, or stiff, which makes blending more challenging. The wear is typically between six and nine hours but closer to seven to eight hours on average. Pinch o’ Peach had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that was a smidgen powdery but didn’t look dry or powdery on the skin. It didn’t seem like a satin-finish to me; it was softer and really was rather flat in finish. When I tested it for wear, the color wore well for eight hours before having visible fading. I believe this shade was permanent for awhile, then discontinued, and is now brought-back; the original seemed a bit darker and had stronger warm undertones (I couldn’t find the previous version in my stash, but I looked at a past swatch I did).

Sephora Over the Moon (14) Colorful Blush

Sephora Over the Moon (14) Colorful Blush
Sephora Over the Moon (14) Colorful Blush

Sephora Over the Moon (14) Colorful Blush ($15.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a lightly brightened, light-medium lavender with warmer, pink tones and a satin finish. Makeup Geek Secret Admirer (P, $9.99) is darker (90% similar). NARS Sex Fantasy (LE, $30.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Makeup Geek Secret Admirer (P, $10.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). MAC Full of Joy (P, $22.00) is brighter, lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Azalea Blossom (LE, $32.00) is more muted, darker (85% similar). MAC Sock-it Xiqu (LE, $21.00) is cooler, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

The Colorful Blush formula is supposed to be long-wearing, buildable, and have a lightweight texture. My experience with the formula has shown that they’re soft, lightly powdery at times (some are worse than others) with semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage that blends fairly well and lasts seven to eight hours. There is some variance between shades, but there are some gems in the range. Over the Moon had semi-sheer to semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a natural sheen that was noticeable without being shimmery. The texture was lightly powdery, thinner than other shades, but it didn’t look powdery on my skin, at least. It lasted for seven hours before there was noticeable fading. From what I can tell, this has since been discontinued, but I have heard you can still find it in some stores. As I had already tested it, I figured I might as well finish it up, but not to worry, it’s merely a bonus review for the day. It’s a shame it was discontinued, though, as a more budget-friendly option for a lavender-hued blush would have been quite welcome.

P.S. — This was the last of the Sephora blushes I had to review! All done 😀

Sephora I’m Shocked (09) Colorful Blush ($15.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “flashy fuchsia.” It’s a right, brightened fuchsia-magenta with strong, cool undertones and a satin sheen. There is some variance between shades, but there are some gems in the range. I’m Shocked is easily the most pigmented and intense shade that I’ve come across in the Colorful Blush line-up. It had semi-opaque to opaque coverage, but it was a harder blush to sheer out unless used with a very feathery brush and light touch. The texture was firm without being dry or powdery, while the blush blended out without too much trouble, it isn’t foolproof. It has a natural finish where it doesn’t read shimmery on the skin, but it doesn’t have a flat, matte finish either. It wore for nine hours before fading on me.

MAC Azalea Blush ($17.00 for 0.21 oz. pan-only) is described as a “bright iridescent blue pink.” It’s a bold, brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool violet pearl that gives it a luminous finish. Colour Pop Pegacorn (DC, $8.00) is more muted, less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Full Fuchsia (P, $22.00) is darker, less shimmery (95% similar). Azalea is intensely pigmented with a soft, finely-milled texture that is easily blended on the skin and can be sheered out if desired. You’ll want to use a feathery brush or a very light hand if you prefer light coverage, but it’s certainly doable–it does lend itself more towards a very pigmented initial application. On me, the color lasted for nine hours with minimal fading.
