OCC Black Metal Dahlia Nail Lacquer
OCC Black Metal Dahlia Nail Lacquer

OCC Black Metal Dahlia Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep maroon with red pearl.” It’s a rich, luxurious deep red with metallic, ruby red shimmer. It applied evenly and smoothly, and two coats was plenty for fully opaque color coverage. The consistency was slightly thicker than average, but it didn’t impact the application at all. MAC Underfire (LE, $16.00) is a cream. Illamasqua Scarab (P, $17.00) is darker. Dior Apparat (LE, $24.00) has gold shimmer. China Glaze Mommy Kissing Santa (LE, $8.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

OCC Batty Nail Lacquer ($10.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “midnight black with silver glitter.” It’s a rich, deep black with silver micro-glitter–it looks like a blackened night sky with twinkling stars. It was nearly opaque in a single coat, but I applied two for perfectly opaque, smooth color. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so the polish flowed evenly across the nail without pooling along the edges. NARS Night Breed (LE, $19.00) has finer sparkle. L’Oreal The Queen’s Ambition (LE) has slightly finer shimmer. Illamasqua Creator (P, $17.00) is similar. Color Club Show Time (P) has finer shimmer. See comparison swatches.

The one color that always tugs at my heart-strings is molten gold–that really rich, warm, almost orange-toned, shade of gold. It’s deep, rich, and pure luxury to me. I have so many favorites, but here are five permanent picks from me! (But Urban Decay Honey Eyeliner will always be a shade I miss desperately.)

  1. Inglot #430 — a rich, yellow gold with a frosted, metallic sheen–this eyeshadow has an incredible texture
  2. OCC Triptych — a vibrant, metallic gold for your lips (but if full intensity isn’t your thing, try it patted over a burgundy or red!)
  3. NARS Iskandar — a phenomenally pigmented cream eyeliner/eyeshadow with a gorgoeus finish
  4. Fyrinnae Aztec Gold — an intensely pigmented, dirty gold–I thought I’d throw one in that wasn’t quite as warm-toned that still held a lot of depth
  5. Sephora Girls Night Out — a rich, warm-toned gold with an orange-brown undertone and a frosted finish

Do you have any shades of molten gold?

Autumn makes me think of the changing colors of the leaves, rain, and a lingering dampness and crispness in the air–which always makes me think of earthiness. One of my favorite earth tones is greens, and this post is inspired by them; murky, mossy, and dirty greens that are beautiful to wear.

  1. Inglot #419 — a subtly warm-toned, dirty green with a frosted finish
  2. OCC Ripley — a gorgeous, gold-sparkled mossy green with threads of metallic shimmer for your nails
  3. Urban Decay Stash — a classic olive-green eyeliner that’s richly pigmented and glides on easily
  4. Make Up For Ever #84 — a muted, darkened green with neutral-cool undertones
  5. L’Oreal Golden Emerald — a richly pigmented, slightly warm-toned gold-shimmered forest green

What are your top favorites?

Whether you’re looking for a warm, coppery shade for your eyes, lips, or cheeks, this post has you covered! These are five of my favorite permanents.

  1. Dior Meteore — a shimmering, sparkling (slightly muted) copper cream eyeshadow
  2. Illamasqua Supernatural — a glisten of coppery warmth to highlight and bronze the skin
  3. OCC Authentic — a metallic, coppery-orange lipstick
  4. Maybelline Breaking Bronze — a warm, golden copper eyeshadow
  5. NARS Isolde — a duo of copper–lighter and darker–with frosted finishes

What your favorite shade of copper to wear during autumn?

OCC Anita Lip Tar
OCC Anita Lip Tar

OCC Anita Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “browned burgundy.” It’s a deep, dark brown with reddish-burgundy undertones; it seems more brown than burgundy to me, but it is certainly a mix of the two. It’s incredibly pigmented, and as is par for the formula, a little goes a very, very long way. It seemed slightly thinner than other Lip Tars, so it was more unforgiving during application.   This shade lasted eight hours on me and continued to linger on as a stain for another two. OCC Black Metal Dahlia is lighter, more cool-toned, less brown. Urban Decay Shame is brighter, redder. MAC Soulfully Rich and MAC Prince Noir are cooler-toned. MAC Chestnut is browner, less red. OCC Black Dahlia is cooler-toned, less brown. See comparison swatches.

Sebastian Lip Tar ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “plum-toned taupe.” It’s exactly that: a mix of gray and beige with a hint of plum. It had opaque color coverage, and again, a little went a long way. It’s certainly an interesting and more unique color (I couldn’t think of any dupes for it, though that doesn’t mean there isn’t something else like it out there–feel free to chime in with a dupe if you have one!). Sebastian wore well for seven hours but didn’t leave behind a stain (which wasn’t surprising, as it is lighter hue).

Both shades will launch at Sephora on August 27th.

P.S. — Please keep an open mind. Just because you don’t like the color(s) or don’t see the point in them, doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t. One person’s everyday color is another person’s once in a blue moon shade–and vice versa. Please be respectful when sharing your opinion. Not liking it on you is one thing, telling others they’re ugly if they wear it is quite different.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics reveals full ‘Fragmented Alice’ Colour Collection, a collaboration with renowned Symbolist painter Gail Potocki. San Diego Comic Con attendees were able to get a sneak peek of the limited edition collection via ‘Fragmented’, which not only to commemorated OCC’s debut at Comic Con but was also the debut of a brand new Lip Tar texture that blends the glossy transparency of Stained Gloss with the high impact sparkle of Metallic.

‘Fragmented’ will now be available to the public as a part of the ‘Fragmented Alice’ collection, to be released alongside three new Loose Colour Concentrates and two new Nail Lacquers. All products in this collection were inspired by Gail Potocki’s latest series of paintings, “Fragmented Alice” — her uniquely macabre take on Alice in Wonderland.

Gail Potocki gives us the inside scoop on this collaboration, “I’m thrilled with how Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics translated my work into the collection. The colors are a great balance between psychedelic and haunting. This collection is a gorgeous extension of my paintings and a unique way for others to physically inhabit the universe of ‘Fragmented Alice’.”

“OCC has never seen boundaries between art and makeup, and this same transcendence of perceived artistic boundaries is present in the ‘Fragmented Alice’ paintings,” says David Klasfeld, Founder and Creative Director of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, “we couldn’t be more honored to partner with an artist as visionary as Gail Potocki.”
