OCC Jubilee Loose Colour Concentrate ($12.00 for 0.088 oz.) is described as a “pastel blue with intense green/yellow shimmer,” and it will launch with the Pretty Boy Collection on September 6th. These are “lightweight, ultra-refined, densely pigmented powders” that can be used on the eyes, face, and body.
Jubilee is so much more than it is described. From straight-on, it’s an airy, pastel blue with a silvery-white shimmer and sheen with subtle pale gold shimmer. It has a very frosted finish that becomes metallic when the product is used damp/wet. Color coverage is sheer when applied dry (but it would be fantastic for layering), while color coverage is much more opaque when it is used damp/wet.
The color isn’t just blue, though, and I’m so happy to have been able to capture at least a fraction of that in a swatch! It’s a duochrome that flashes pale blue, pale green, and iridescent purple. It’s quite lovely, which is why this shade is perfect for layering and changing the dimensions of anything worn underneath.
Giorgio Armani #10 is reminiscent in the pastel blue shade, but it doesn’t have the duochrome sheen. It reminds me more of Rescue Beauty Lounge Scrangie, which is a nail polish, but it has a lot of the same twists and turns in the shimmer.
Jubilee performs best wet, if you want a really dense color, but because of the way it looks and acts, it’s a worthy layering shade–kind of like a glitter top coat for nails. The powder is soft, finely-milled, and applies smoothly.
Fans of duochrome finishes should be smitten with Jubilee! The possibilities are endless, because it can be layered over your favorite eyeshadow for a transformative iridescence and sheen.

OCC Cruising Loose Colour Concentrate ($12.00 for 0.088 oz.) is described as a “brassy gold shimmer,” and it will launch with the Pretty Boy Collection on September 6th. These are “lightweight, ultra-refined, densely pigmented powders” that can be used on the eyes, face, and body.
The description is rather apt–it’s a brassy gold with a very shimmery, metallic finish. It’s a brownish gold with a hint of green flash (it almost looks a little olive in the pot). Swatched dry, it’s less metallic but still produces good color payoff, while swatched dry, it’s more opaque, smoother, and the finish turns more metallic. It’s more metallic and less yellow than Le Metier de Beaute Chameleon and Urban Decay Rush.
Cruising has a soft feel, and it applies smoothly. It can be used dry without lots of fall out, but you’ll want to pat it on, rather than sweep, to initially apply the color–then you can use sweeping motions to blend it out better. I do prefer using loose colors damp or over a stickier base, just because the overall nuances of the colors tend to come out better this way. It has a three-holed sifter, and it works well. I had to do quite a lot of work to get as much product out and onto the main level for photography purposes.
I love when loose colors work well even when they are used dry! It is better when applied damp (or mixed with their Mixing Medium) but it's still quite good dry. The texture is finely milled, so the product applies smoothly.

OCC Butch Lip Tar ($13.00 for 0.27 fl. oz.) is described as a “pastel periwinkle,” and it will launch with the Pretty Boy Collection on September 6th. Lip Tars were born to be mixed, but over time, OCC has released shades that can just as easily be worn alone as they can be used to mix with others. The formula is meant to give the longer wear of a lipstick with the application of a gloss, while the ultimate dry down reveals a satin finish. Lip Tars are also richly pigmented and mint-scented (it includes peppermint oil).
If you have any experience with Lip Tars, the best advice anyone can give is: a little goes a very, very long way. Butch is no exception–you really need much less than you’d think. It’s also much easier to use a lighter hand and add more as needed. You can apply straight from the tube (and the angled applicator works well to maneuver around the natural curves of the lips) or with a lip brush (OCC recommends their #009 brush).
Butch is a beautiful periwinkle–it’s a perfect mix of cornflower blue and dusty purple that combines for this lighter, softened blue that’s tinted with purple. It has opaque color coverage, and obviously, it’s not a shade that you’ll see most brands come out with. If you have to ask why blue lips, then this product is likely not for you. Makeup has its roots in artistry, and for some, it is exactly that. Surely, it’s not an everyday color for most of us, but for artists and those who like to mix and layer their products, it’s a shade welcomed with open arms.
It wears like a champ, as Lip Tars tend to do, and even the lightness in color doesn’t limit the wear. I wore this shade for six hours with minimal fading. It’s lightweight and comfortable to wear with a soft shine.
What's great about the range of OCC Lip Tars these days is that there is a wide assortment of colors--and many of them can be termed wearable--and they aren't all blues and yellows and greens. But there is something liberating about wearing a blue lip!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pretty Boy Collection for Fall/Winter 2011
Who says makeup is only for girls? From David Bowie and Boy George to Adam Lambert, Jared Leto and today’s crop of glam rockers, the impact men have made on the art of makeup is one that still resonates through the present day and boys keep swinging!
Pretty Boy, OCC’s new Fall/Winter 2011 Colour Collection, takes its inspiration from these artists and performers to present a palette created to empower all genders to express themselves with colour.
The creative process began backstage at the Fall/Winter 2011 Collections where the runways were littered with brightly coloured makeup including intense neons and saturated pastels, not typical of what to expect from makeup trends meant for the later months of the year. At BESS NY, under the direction of Makeup Artist Vincent Oquendo, male and female models alike took to the runway in bold neon lips, multi-colored eyes and with some literally covered head-to-toe in glitter. At Eva Minge, Makeup Artist Kristi Matamoros created a look that showcased almost-neon red lips, and at Logan Neitzel, Makeup Artist Victor Henao’s look featured a graphic green/black eye makeup look that made models of both sexes look equally mysterious and androgynous.

Sneak Peek: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Fall Lip Tars
Just in time for fall, OCCwill launch six new shades of Lip Tars ($12.50 for oz.) on August 27th. The shades include: Trick (blank slate), Trollop (cranberry-infused coral), Harlot (ultimate fiery, cool-toned red), Stalker (truest red), Strutter (mahogany-toned classic red), and Strumpet (deep plum-toned red).
Trick is a browned peach nude. This is definitely a shade that’s better worn with a more dramatic eye than alone–by itself, it is a little light.
Trollop is a bright watermelon pink coral. It practically glows, because it’s almost neon–very, very bright!
Harlot is a bright, blood red. This seems like an orange-based red to me, even though it’s described as a cool-toned shade. For an orange-based red, it’s certainly one of the least warm shades I’ve tried, though–but it still pulls orange on me.
Stalker is a dark, blood red. It’s darker and more blue-based than Harlot.
Strutter is a deep browned red. I like that it’s not ultra dark, so it doesn’t lose its red edge.
It’s been quite awhile since I initially reviewed Lip Tars(actually, just over a year!), and it’s kind of exciting to see how much the line has grown. A year ago, there were only thirteen shades to review, and today, there are thirty-two shades available. One of areas of improvement I wanted to see was for a fuller range of colors–shades that were just as intensely pigmented but wearable right out of the tube, because not everybody wants to mix shades (or buy five or six shades so they can get their mixology on).
Lip Tars are incredibly pigmented and you need very little to get full-color coverage–I’m totally serious: squeeze lightly! They’re pretty easy to apply just using the slanted squeeze-tube that they come out of, but if you want true precision, a lip brush will work wonders. If you use just the barest amount, they will dry down to a satin finish, but if you add a little more, it gives a slightly glossier look. These will wear four to five hours without trouble, and even nude shades like Trick stained a little (so darker shades most definitely stain)–even after a few minutes! They smell like peppermint (from the peppermint oil), but they are fragrance-free. They don’t really taste like much to me personally.

RECOMMENDATION: If you want opaque color that doesn’t feel heavy and wears well, Lip Tars are definitely that. Now, you can get your hands on some excellent colors that work straight outta the tube–no more mixing required!
