FORMULA SUMMARY | NYX’s newest blush formula is supposed to be a “high definition, lightweight blush that blends evenly” that is “vibrant and silky.” The texture tended to be on the more powdery side, but it sits well and doesn’t look powdery applied. Many shades have a more luminous finish to them where the shimmer is fine enough to create a glow, rather than a frosted finish (though a couple are quite shimmery). The formula blends fairly easily on the skin and has medium, buildable coverage with some being very pigmented right off the bat. The wear time is between seven and eight hours. Tuscan is an intensely pigmented blush where a little goes a long way. The powder is very silky and soft, but it is prone to kicking up excessive powder as it is just so soft. That softness does seem to help make it incredibly blendable and forgiving, which is key for something this bright and pigmented. On me, the blush managed to last for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Nude ‘tude is semi-sheer, buildable coverage with a really soft, silky texture that practically crumbled when a brush touched it, so there was a lot of excess powder in the pan. If you are very fair, you may find it easy to over-apply as a lot of product gets on the brush if you aren’t careful. The blush is finely-milled, though, which makes it easy to blend out on the skin, and it doesn’t look powdery on. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

I touched on some of my favorite copper eyeshadows last month, but coppery lip colors are becoming more and more prevalent with each passing season (much to my surprise!), so here are a few that I really like:

  1. NYX Wrath — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.
  2. Kat Von D Thin Lizzy — A Warm Copper with a Frost finish.
  3. Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) — A Warm Copper with a Satin finish.
  4. Milani Bronze Beauty — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.
  5. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Authentic — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.

The side-by-side link isn’t quite working, which we’ll fix probably on Monday (it’s a little minor for a weekend emergency, I try not to be a crazy boss, haha!), so please use THIS LINK to view side-by-side swatches 🙂

NYX Rose Gold & Intuition HD Blushes

NYX Rose Gold HD Blush
NYX Rose Gold HD Blush

NYX Rose Gold HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a brightened, medium orange-coral with warm, reddish undertones and a strong, golden frost. It had semi-opaque coverage that was buildable to mostly true-to-pan color. The texture was silky to the touch, which made it easy to blend and work into the skin, and the fineness of the powder helped it adhere smoothly. The only downside is that it is a little powdery and kicks up excess in the pan, but luckily, that powderiness doesn’t translate on the skin. This shade wore for seven and a half hours on me. Makeup Geek Romance (P, $9.99) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Haute Contour (Blush) (LE) is less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). NARS Vu (LE) is cooler (90% similar). Milani Corallina (P, $8.49) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Sparkling Bellini (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Too Faced Luminous Peach (LE) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Siena (P, $58.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). NYX Menage a Trois (P, $15.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Style Cast (LE, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Zoeva Palace Door (P) is lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Fireball (P, $26.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NYX Intuition HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium, rosy plum with warm undertones and a frosted finish. This blush has an incredibly soft, finely-milled consistency… that gets everywhere, because it is so powdery that is easy to get far more product than you need on the brush and onto your face (it also wastes some!). You need a really, really light touch and just lightly pat the surface of the blush with your brush to minimize the mess. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a more heavily frosted finish, though it didn’t emphasize pores once it is blended out. I noticed fading with this one after seven hours. Laura Geller Fruit Punch (P, $28.00) is cooler (95% similar). Becca Rose Spritz (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Peachy Keen (LE) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Star Wonder (LE, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Sweet Vision (LE, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Springsheen (P, $22.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). YSL Passionnee (6) (P, $47.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Peony (LE, $26.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Laura Geller Tropic Hues (P, $28.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
