NYX Soft Spoken HD Blush
NYX Soft Spoken HD Blush

NYX Soft Spoken HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a soft, light peach with a hintr of pink and a golden shimmer-sheen. Dior Peach Splendor (LE, $44.00) is less shimmery. Sephora + Pantone Universe Coral Pink (LE) is less shimmery. Chanel Caresse (180) (LE, $45.00) is darker. Benefit CORALista (Palette) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery . Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach (LE) is darker, more shimmery. Surratt Beauty Duchesse (P, $32.00) is lighter. MAC New Romance (P, $27.00) is slightly darker. Makeup Geek Honeymoon (P, $9.99) is pinker. bareMinerals The Many Splendors #2 (LE) is more shimmery. MAC Adored (LE, $30.00) is darker. MAC Amber Glow (LE, $27.00) is less pink. Benefit Sugarbomb (P, $28.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This is a blush that will naturally suit lighter skin tones the best as a result of being on the lighter end of the spectrum, as it will show up as more of a highlighter on medium and deeper skin tones (as it does on me). The powder was soft, smooth, and powdery, though it didn’t feel chalky. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable to a degree, but it tended to soften more readily than it did intensify to opaque color. The finish is luminous without being too frosted, so it didn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture, and despite the powderiness, it didn’t look that way on the skin. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading on me.

NYX Taupe HD Blush
NYX Taupe HD Blush

NYX Taupe HD Blush ($6.50 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium-dark, taupe brown with subtle warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. Kat Von D Sombre (P) is very similar but slightly warmer. MAC Next to Skin (LE, $21.00) is lighter. Inglot #504 (P, $15.00) is cooler-toned. NYX Taupe (P, $5.00) is rosier. NARS Douceur (P, $29.00) is warmer, more shimmery, lighter. MAC Taupe Shape ($21.00) is more shimmery. Chanel Notorious (LE, $45.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX’s newest blush formula is supposed to be a “high definition, lightweight blush that blends evenly” that is “vibrant and silky.” The consistency of the powder is definitely very soft, but it is quite powdery and kicks up a lot of excess in the pan. Luckily, it doesn’t look powdery on the skin and blended out easily. The color payoff was more semi-sheer to semi-opaque with some buildability, but this particular shade wasn’t intensely pigmented. This seemed even cooler-toned compared to the regular Powder Blush version of Taupe, which may make it an even more suitable contouring shade for fair to medium-dark skin tones, but I wish it wasn’t quite so thin in texture. It also contains slightly more product (0.16 oz. vs. 0.14 oz. but costs $1.50 more) and doesn’t have talc as an ingredient. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours before fading.

As a note, this product seems potentially extra fragile, as I received three of the blushes I ordered from ULTA completely shattered, and several readers had similar stories–but more worrying was that some readers experienced blushes breaking in their bags on the way home. That being said, I ordered a dozen or so from NYX directly and none of them arrived broken.

You don’t have to splash out lots of your budget to get a beautiful red lip color! Here are a few of my more wallet-friendly favorites:

  1. Revlon Provocateur — a warm, brightened red
  2. Maybelline On Fire Red — a bold, bright red
  3. Milani Cherry Crave — a shimmery red
  4. Maybelline Very Cherry — a classic red with a matte finish
  5. NYX Chic Red — a strong, blue-based red

NYX Rose Lippie
NYX Macaron Lippie

NYX Rose Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, pastel cotton candy p ink with a semi-matte finish. The consistency of this shade was the least creamy of the entire range, though it didn’t drag or tug–it was still lightly creamy, just not slippery like other shades. It had opaque color coverage, but between the drier consistency and lightness of color, it almost looked chalky on. The color wore well for five hours, but it pulled into lip lines over time. Kat Von D Armageddon (P, $19.00) is brighter, darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Mannequin (P, $18.00) is darker. MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted. MAC Snob (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Orange Blossom Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a lightened, soft peach-orange with warm undertones and a satiny shine. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a very creamy, emollient consistency. There was a little bit of streakiness, but it applied fairly well despite the slippery formula. On me, the color lasted for four hours. The closest shade to it that I could think of was Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Covet (P, $18.00), which is much darker (I wouldn’t call it a dupe).

NYX Citron Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened, light-medium yellow with warm undertones and a soft shine. It applied better than one might expect, though it was somewhat streaky and not nearly as pigmented as some of the other shades in the range. It wore well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

NYX Coconut Lippie
NYX Macaron Lippie

NYX Coconut Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a bright, cool-toned white with a creamy, satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but due to the really creamy, slippery consistency, it didn’t go on as evenly as one would want. It lasted for four and a half hours on me and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Iced (P, $18.00) is very shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Black Sesame = Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a light-medium, neutral-to-warm-toned gray with a creamy, satin finish. This shade was opaque, and it applied very well with even, smooth color. The texture of the lipstick was still creamy and emollient, but it didn’t prove to make application problematic. The color wore well for five hours on me and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. I don’t have any dupes for this one!

NYX Chambord Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep, dark black with neutral undertones and a glossy sheen. Despite having a high slip, very creamy texture, it applied fairly well. There was enough pigmentation that what little unevenness there was managed to to recede into the background for the most part. This shade lasted for six hours when I tested it and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. If you prefer a matte finish, you could lightly dust a matte black eyeshadow on top or translucent powder. Kat Von D Slayer (P, $21.00) is more matte, sheerer, lighter. MAC Hautecore (LE, $16.00) is very similar in color. Make Up For Ever #50 (P, $19.00) is the same in color. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Wicked Lippies
NYX Wicked Lippies

NYX Immortal Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a bold, medium-dark violet purple with cool, blue undertones and a metallic shimmer–it appears more as a frost finish than a metallic finish to me. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which I think was owed a lot to the very slippery, creamy consistency, and if it had been slightly drier, it would have been more pigmented applied. It also applied unevenly as a result. Once on, it wore well for six and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. NYX Envy (P, $6.00) is bluer. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Technopagan (P, $18.00) is darker, bluer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Power Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It wasn’t as creamy as the other two shades, but in a good way, as it still glided on without dragging, but the color distributed better and more evenly. It could have been a little more opaque, given the formula’s claims. The color wore well for five hours on me. Revlon Icy Violet (LE, $7.99) is lighter. NARS Falbala (P, $26.00) is sheerer, less metallic. MAC Venus (LE, $16.00) is lighter, pinker. Guerlain Bloom of Rose (P, $35.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Cold Hearted Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a silver-shimmered, medium black with a glossy sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied with some unevenness. It tended to pull into lip lines after three to four hours of wear, though it lasted closer to six in all. Though it has a very different finish, Kat Von D Slayer (P, $21.00) with its sheerer, uneven application looked somewhat similar on (but it’s matte and has no shimmer, just to be clear!). See comparison swatches / view dupes.
