Here’s that look I mentioned yesterday! :) I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and you know what? I much prefer pigments for my colored bases. I think I would have had better staying power, no fading, and it would have had more *pop* — I will definitely be opting for pigments in the future, methinks!

The weirdest part about this look was how clumsy I felt doing it. I think it turned out fine, but it had been SO long since I had done any makeup–let alone anything this bright or bold–and my hands felt awkward, clumsy. I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing! It all felt so new, LOL.

Oh!  And you can see my new hair in this look.  I got it cut from the same picture as before, but I went “all the way” in terms of length.  To be honest, I preferred the longer, modified version last time.  But it’s okay, because I was able to go this short and be OK with it.  I didn’t cry or feel like I lost a part of me.  It’ll grow out soon enough!

Today I’m off to meet up with a bride I’m doing makeup for in June 2009. Wish me luck :)  What are you all doing this hump day?

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Too Faced Shadow Insurance (base), Silver Ring eyeshadow (silver), Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow (fuchsia-purple), Parfait Amour eyeshadow (cool purple), Climate Blue eyeshadow (dark cool purple), Shale eyeshadow (mauvey-purple), Hush eyeshadow (pink-toned highlighter), Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner (dark purple), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Dior Rose Diamond blush (soft pink)
  • Lips: Sweetie lipstick (medium pink), Calvin Klein Knockout Lip Gloss (pink-purple)

On the inner lid, apply Silver Ring eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Parfait Amour packed on and drag into crease using the 239. Darken crease with Climate Blue eyeshadow using the 239. Blend the harsh line of the crease by overlaying Shale eyeshadow. Sweep Hush underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Rose Diamond blush using the 129. Apply Sweetie lipstick to lips, and then top with CK Knockout lip gloss for color and shine.

On Saturday, we went out to celebrate my Mom’s birthday at a French restaurant, so I dolled myself up with a different take on the traditiona smoky eye. Still staying with grays and blacks, but I went for a light lid. I haven’t decided if I liked it or not, LOL. Happy Veteran’s Day!

As promised, here’s a look using the holiday ’08 warm eyes palette :) For those wondering, I really do not think Femme Noir looks anything like Grand Entrance. Femme Noir is almost a black-green on me, but it’s an olive, muted green. Grand Entrance is a rich forest green.

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Old Gold pigment (green-gold base), Goldmine eyeshadow (true gold), Warm Suede eyeshadow (brown with green tint), Grand Entrance eyeshadow (dark forest green), Carbon eyeshadow (black), Sweet Joy eyeshadow (soft beige-peach), Prescriptives Blue Grotto Kohl (green-blue), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Enough Said blush (soft peachy)
  • Lips: Quiet Please lipstick (sheer beige), Tartlette lipglass (coral-pink)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Warm Suede = Sumptuous Olive; Grand Entrance = Femme Noir + Humid; Sweet Joy = Ricepaper; Enough Said = bronzer; Quiet Please = Fresh Brew; Tartlette = Lychee Luxe

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Old Gold pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner third of the lid, apply Goldmine eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Warm Suede to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Grand Entrance eyeshadow and drag into crease using the 239. Deepen crease with Carbon eyeshadow by pulling it into the crease. Sweep Sweet Joy eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Prescriptives’ Blue Grotto kohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129, then highlight with Soft & Gentle mineralize skinfinish using the 188. GRR!! I really, really LOVED this look and how it turned out, and of course – I didn’t do close-ups in front of a mirror, so they didn’t turn out as well as they normally did. I included more full-face shots as a compromise, since I just uploaded them this morning (aka, the makeup was removed!). The boy and I went to a fancy schmancy steakhouse to celebrate our anniversary a few days early (super yum!), so I got all dolled up for it :)

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: MAC Azreal Blue pigment (light blue), Dior Twilight Eyeshadow Quint, MAC Fly-by-blu pearlglide liner (navy), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Gentle mineralize blush (soft raspberry-pink)
  • Lips: YSL Lingerie Pink rouge volupte lipstick (cool, pastel pink), Cult Fave lipglass (pink)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Azreal Blue = Delft; Fly-by-blu = Prussian; Gentle = Plum Foolery; Lingerie Pink = Snob; Cult Fave = Cultured (for this look only)

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Azreal Blue pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner-to-middle lid, apply the light blue shade from the Dior quint using the 239 brush. Apply the light silver color of the Dior quint to the middle of your lid using the 239 brush. Darken the outer lid using the dark blue shade from the Dior quint and drag into crease using the 239. Sweep the light blue shade underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Fly-by-blu pearlglide liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Gentle blush using the 129. Apply YSL Lingerie Pink lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult Fave lipglass for color and shine.
