Bright Makeup: Yellow, Orange, & Red
Does anyone else find it hard to get back into the swing of things? Whenever there’s been a disruption to my usual day-to-day routine (traveling for business, vacation, getting too sick to move, etc.), I just find it so difficult to fall back into my schedule! Grrr!
I’ll be heading over to MAC once they open (boo, being on the west coast!) to pick up the four missing items from Liberty of London and will update the review once I’ve done that. Who else is visiting their local MAC to grab some Liberty of London goodies?
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Sugarpill Goldilux ChromaLust (metallic gold base), Sugarpill Buttercupcake Eyeshadow (primary yellow), Sugarpill Flamepoint Eyeshadow (bright orange), Sugarpill Love+ Eyeshadow (nearly matte red), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Korres Tinted Moisturizer (Honey)
- Cheeks: MAC Prim & Proper Blush (soft pink-nude), Laura Mercier Polished Radiant Creme Cheek Colour (champagne-pink highlighter)
- Lips: MAC Ever Hip Lipstick (orange-peach), MAC True Babe Lipglass (bright pink)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush), 188 (small stippling brush)
- Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom; Prim & Proper = Tenderling, Ever Hip = Ravishing; True Babe = Pink Poodle
For eyes, start by applying Goldilux as your eyeshadow base with the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water). Using the 239, apply Buttercupcake eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Flamepoint eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Love+ eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Love+ eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. Lightly tap and brush Flamepoint eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Lucky eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Prim & Proper blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheeks with Polished cheek colour with the 188 for a soft sheen.
For lips, apply Ever Hip lipstick first, and then layer True Babe lipglass for a complementing lip.

Summer Makeup: The Bright Sunset – Yellow, Orange, & Red
I just can’t help it! The latest shades to join the permanent range at MAC are all bright, they’re so *summer* and it’s not even technically spring yet! Oh, well… call it fashionably early? Hm. Whatever. This was just me having a little fun late at night :) If you want to wear it yourself and make it a little more tame or “everyday” (but I mean, it is bright!), use a more neutral highlighter (maybe Nylon) rather than going with color up to the brow bone. I’d rock it either way! :)
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), (yellow gold), MAC Golden Lemon Pigment (yellow gold), MAC Going Bananas Eyeshadow (soft bright yellow), MAC Goldenrod Eyeshadow (golden orange-yellow), MAC Free to Be Eyeshadow (coral), MAC Red Brick Eyeshadow (orange-red), MAC Nylon Eyeshadow (golden highlighter), Urban Decay Bourbon 24/7 Liner (brown), Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Dior Vintage Pink Blush (pink with peach)
- Lips: MAC Bronze Shimmer Lipstick, MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Going Bananas = Nylon + Bright Sunshine (or Chrome Yellow)
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply Golden Lemon pigment all over the lid portion. Using the 239, apply Going Bananas eyeshadow on the inner third of the eyelid. Next, apply Goldenrod eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Free to Be eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Red Brick eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Going Bananas eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Nylon eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Bourbon eyeliner on the lower lash line, and Going Bananas eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Exceptionnel mascara.
For cheeks, apply Vintage Pink blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Bronze Shimmer lipstick first, and then layer Lychee Luxe lipglass for a complementing lip.

Summer Makeup: Sunny Grass – Yellow, Chartreuse, and Green
Here’s a fun look for all the green lovers out there!
Oh, you say Lucky Green is not permament? Well, let me fill you in on a little something MAC has slipped under the radar this season… On January 15th, MAC Freestanding stores will have Lucky Green… permanently. Oh, yeah! (I actually have a fairly decent amount of pan showing on my Lucky Green, love it so!)
Along with Lucky Green, PRO shades such as Atlantic Blue and a few additional shades will all be added the permanent eyeshadow range at freestanding stores. I don’t have much more information, but you can expect me to be at MAC first thing on the 15th to purchase one of each! :) From what readers and artists have told me, all MAC counters will get these shades in, but counters will only have them available until their stock runs out. It’s pretty much the equivalent of C-Shock in terms of shades — they’re bright, colorful pops of color. I won’t be able to tell you anything about quality ’til Friday, sorry folks!
Here are the shades:
- Winkle Mid-tone cornflower blue
- Sunny Spot Light acid green yellow
- Lucky Green Frosted mid-tone lime
- Vibrant Grape Bright magenta violet
- Free To Be Bright true coral
- Atlantic Blue Bright violet blue
- Red Brick Orange red
- Goldenrod Bright marigold yellow

Next, define the crease by applying Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Bright Sunshine eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Nylon eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #20L eyeliner on the lower waterline, Honey eyeliner on the lower lash line, and Sour Lemon eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. I did this look yesterday :) Just trying to use Bright Future from Style Warrior & make it work for me! It’s better than the last round, but in truth, it doesn’t top Going Bananas or Bright Sunshine — I’d prefer both of those over Bright Future. I find Chrome Yellow to be hard to wear, because it is so yellow, and I think the same issue is here with Bright Future.
What’s everyone doing for the long weekend?
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Quick Frost pigment (whitish-gold), Bright Future eyeshdaow (bright yellow), Rule eyeshadow (matte orange), Coppering eyeshadow (orange-red), Firespot eyeshadow (orange), Texture eyeshadow (brownish-red), Soft Force eyeshadow (highlighter) Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Eversun beauty powder blush (coral-pink), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
- Lips: Brave New Bronze lipstick (pinky nude), Tartlette lipglass (coral)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Quick Frost = Frost; Bright Future = Bright Sunshine/Chrome Yellow; Firespot = Goldmine+Coppering; Soft Force = Nylon; Eversun = Springsheen; Brave New Bronze = Honeylove; Tartlette = Lychee Luxe
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Quick Frost pigment with water-based mixing medium on the lower lid. On the inner lid, pack Bright Future eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Firespot eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Overlay outer lid with Coppering eyeshadow. Darken crease with Rule eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Texture eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Soft Force eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. This was a really quick Style Warrior look I put together the other day. I don’t think Night Manoeuvers is a very flattering color on me — at least in this pairing! I think I could wear it in a more gray/purple kind of look. I was attempting to only use Style Warrior products, so, there ya have it. Live and learn :) Never hurts to try.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Golden Lemon pigment (gold yellow), Bright Future eyeshadow (bright yellow), Tempting eyeshadow (chocolate brown), Folie eyeshadow (reddish brown), Night Manoeuvers eyeshadow (gray-purple), Soft Force eyeshadow (soft white-gold), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner (gold), Plushlash mascara (black)

- Substitutes: Femme-fi = Shroom; Brave New Bronze = Velvet Teddy
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Golden Lemon pigment with water-based mixing medium on the lower lid. On the inner lid, pack Bright Future eyeshadow on using the 239. Here’s a MAC Style Warrior look! I did false eyelashes again (hey, when you’ve spent four years attempting without success, and you can manage it… you keep trying!), but I used knockoff #7s instead, and they were just too long, IMO. I ended up removing them, because the length was a bit obnoxious. I did pick up some new #7s at MAC last week, so hopefully I can keep applying lashes as I need to in the future! :)
What’s everyone doing this weekend? It’s a ridiculously beautiful (and hot!) weekend here in California. We’ll have to find a way to do something outside to enjoy it! :)
P.S. — Happy birthday to my Dad! <333

This look is from last week — March 30th, to be exact — so still pretty much prior to getting hit with the nasty cold bug. I did a look this morning, and would you believe that it’s a similar look to this? I was like, “Geez, I finally put on makeup while I’m sick, and I end up doing the same thing!!” It was a little frustrating ;) My wiggle-worm (aka Mellan) keeps wiggling onto my lap insisting I stop posting and get to feeding him, LOL. Hope your Saturday is filled with as much laughter as mine has started off with! :)
P.S. – If my face seems lighter than my body, it’s likely more an issue of SPF and reflection with flash photography (which is why I always advocate skipping SPF for any special occasion photography!).

Straight-forward bright tropical eye for today! :) I was originally going to do a BBR look, but when I tried to do something purple using Violet pigment and Top Knot/Deep Shade, it looked a hot mess!
