When you wear your jeans, you wear your own legend. The legend of jeans was built by those who have worn them — everyone from cowboys, Indians and gold miners to Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Brigitte Bardot and the Rolling Stones — not to mention Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and so many others. Jeans may be a uniform, but they are unique on everyone!
These trousers made of denim that all of us eternal adolescents try to get into year after year are more than just a garment; they are an accessory that lets us feel at ease and change our look quickly. What if the 15 minutes of fame Warhol promised all of us were right there on our legs? What could be more flattering and essential to us than our favourite jeans, no matter what the style or label? They not only cover our bodies, but also reveal our fantasies when they are embroidered, patched, bleached, dyed or customised to create something unique.
Denim can be streetwise, chic, basic, sophisticated, masculine, sexy and more. This symbol of rebellion gets you moving — to its own beat. For the spring-summer 2008 Givenchy Le Makeup collection, I wanted to pay homage to this companion that has the elegance to age along with us, this paradoxical fabric that, even though it has been elevated to “Couture” status, remains faithful to us and helps us express ourselves. It is the ultimate “made-to-measure” product, since it adapts to every figure. Like the pioneers of the Wild West or elegant Parisians, your days and nights will be filled with the spirit of DENIM FETICHE.

Overall, The Stylistics proves to be a very lovely, dazzling collection of pearls, baubles, and all-around classy packaging. Indeed, the packaging is incredibly reminiscent of last year’s Couture collection, with a few exceptions; obviously, the embellishments are different from last year’s, but instead of gunmetal, they’ve used a shiny, black metal instead. Last year’s held fingerprints like crazy, and over time, parts of my lipstick tubes have tarnished a bit. As a result, I have to say I like this year’s go-round better, because I always hated how easily you could see smudges on Couture’s packaging. The lipsticks are all luxuriously rich and pigmented, which makes them to-die-for. The lipglasses are lovely, but I’m not as stunned by them as I had hoped to be (I adore this formula – it’s sheer and yet adds so much dimension on top of any lipstick). I was 100% utterly disappointed in the Sheerspark Pressed Powders–they did not give me any pay off except for some chunky glitter. I’m personally wondering if perhaps too much oil had accumulated in the testers from customers, and it just made the product unusable, but we’ll see. I’ll ask at The Stylistics’ party tonight, just to get a clear answer!
