Illamasqua Fierce Intense Lipgloss
Illamasqua Fierce Intense Lipgloss

The Summer Season: Illamasqua Fierce Intense Lipgloss

Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss Fierce ($19.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a medium violet purple. Yes, it’s really, truly a purple lipgloss. This isn’t a hint of violet, a smidgen of purple–it is undeniably purple. I don’t, personally, think I’d wear this shade alone, but I’d work it with a red or burgundy lipstick mixed with it for something I could wear. Though I experienced no bleeding and the gloss goes on beautifully–smooth, evenly, and mostly opaque–the natural color of the edges of my lips are visible–I recommend using a lip brush to apply and a magenta or purple lip liner underneath. I think this will yield the most impacting pout if you’re going full-force purple.

Is this the right purple lipstick for you? Would you wear it?

YSL #13 Rouge Volupte Lipstick
YSL Peach Passion Rouge Volupte Lipstick

The Summer Season: YSL Peach Passion Rouge Volupte Lipstick

YSL Peach Passion (#13) Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened peachy-coral with an ultra creamy feel. Rouge Voluptes are ridiculously creamy–quite possibly the creamiest lipstick I’ve ever tried–so they do have a lot of slip. It’s easy to use more than you need, but the lipstick itself lasts a solid three to four hours, despite the slip-factor. Peach Passion is a rich, opaque shade that delivers full-color coverage with a soft, mango-ish scent.

NARS Schiap Lipstick
NARS Schiap Lipstick

The Summer Season: NARS Schiap Lipstick

NARS Schiap Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, fuchsia-pink with a semi-matte finish. It has no shimmer, but it does have a slightly glossy sheen, so it doesn’t a completely matte finish. Schiap applies beautifully–soft, smooth, and the color looks even with little effort. I like that it’s not totally matte, because I think if it was, this shade might be drying. The slight creaminess and glisten to it give it enough moisture to keep from drying your lips out (but if you have really dry lips, I recommend prepping well before wearing this). NARS lipsticks are scent-free and taste-free (though you might detect a wax-y scent). I got about four hours of wear before it started fading, but it held on pretty well.

MAC Speed Dial Lipstick

The Summer Season: MAC Speed Dial Lipstick

MAC Speed Dial Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a slightly blue-based pink with a golden sheen. It’s an interesting shade, because it has that yellowness to it, that golden shimmer and sheen, but the pink still feels blue-based. I think it’s wearble on both cool and warm skin tones, though, and I love how it’s pink with a gold sheen. Speed Dial has a cremesheen finish, so it’s not one of MAC’s most moisturizing formulas, but I don’t find it drying myself. I like the color pay off of Speed Dial as well–not entirely opaque but nearly so.

Illamasqua Petulant Intense Lipgloss

The Summer Season: Illamasqua Petulant Intense Lipgloss

Illamasqua Petulant Intense Lipgloss ($19.00) is a vibrant shade of darkened raspberry pink. It’s brightened up quite a bit, so it’s not just dark but rich and lush. Being a lipgloss–despite how intensely pigmented it is–it has a very glossy sheen. It’s creamy, and while it’s not ultra-moisturizing, it doesn’t dry out my lips, either. The color gives incredible payoff, nearly opaque up-close and opaque from afar. I swear it also makes my teeth look whiter! :)

Korres #52 Orange Red Lipstick

The Summer Season: Korres #52 Orange Red Lipstick

Korres #52 Orange Red Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a semi-sheer, lightened orange with just a hint of red to it. I’m not sure why it’s named “Orange Red,” because it feels almost like an orange-coral. In case you were curious, it is pretty different from #45 Coral#52 Orange Red is like it’s bolder, brighter naughty older sister. It’s more pigmented, definitely more on the orange side. It has the same glossiness of all Mango Butter Lipsticks, though, and it’s just as moisturizing.
