The Summer Season: Dolce & Gabbana Violet Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Violet (#100) Shine Lipstick ($30.00) is a creamy, magenta purple with a very glossy, squishy look. It’s quite pigmented–nearly opaque–and feels incredible on lips. It’s smooth, applies evenly, and looks practically wet on lips. The lipstick has a noticeable rosy scent which may be too much for some, but luckily, I don’t mind heavier scented lipsticks, and I find that it’s not noticeable (to me, at least) when I wear it–it’s more of a scent you can smell when you smell the tube.

The Summer Season: Illamasqua Indulge Intense Lipgloss

I was so impressed with Frenzy, I just had to try a few more of Illamasqua’s Intense Lipglosses (I will also be featuring Fierce, Petulant, and Move soon!). They totally scream, “TEMPTALIA!” since they’re glossy but wickedly pigmented. Indulge didn’t disappoint me either–it’s bright, richly pigmented, and applies beautifully. Even better is that these glosses last a good three to four hours on me before a little fading occurs, which is quite good for a lipgloss! These feel like a cross between lipstick and lipgloss, but they’re definitely more on the lipgloss side of the equation.

The Summer Season: Milani Mandarina Lipstick

Milani Mandarina Lipstick ($4.99 for 0.13 oz.) is a vibrant, tangerine-orange with a glossy sheen and completely opaque color. This is not an orange for the faint of heart! This is a bold, unabashedly orange lipstick. The best part of this lipstick is how truly pigmented it is–trust me, I was impressed upon swatching at just how opaque the color is on lips. It lasts about three hours on me, but it fades evenly enough that it’s not a big deal when it does. I wish the scent was a little less synthetic/waxy–even just vanilla would work for me. Otherwise, the intense color pay off and creamy look and feel of the formula is well worth the five dollar price tag.

The Summer Season: MAC Violetta Lipstick

MAC Violetta Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a red-based violet purple with a glossy sheen. It has an amplified creme finish and a permanent PRO shade (which does, occasionally, make an appearance on maccosmetics.com as part of seasonal trend reports). It has a very reddish-purple base with more of a true violet iridescent/overlay, but it looks cohesive once applied. Personally, I don’t wear Violetta on its own, but I love pairing it with iridescent or milky pinks as well as fuchsias to brighten it.

The Summer Season: Elizabeth Arden Perfect Flamingo Lipstick

Elizabeth Arden Perfect Flamingo Lipstick ($21.50 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened shade of blue-based pink. It’s a creamy, smooth shade with an almost semi-matte finish — it has just a bit of sheen but it’s very played down. It provides semi-opaque color coverage while de-emphasizing lip lines. One of my favorite things about this lipstick is how moisturizing it is — it really keeps lips feeling their poutiest throughout the day. The wear is fantastic as well, as I can get through a cup of coffee without leaving all my lipstick behind! It doesn’t make through the whole day, but it stays on well enough not to need a reapplication after drinking, otherwise it lasts a solid four hours on me.
