MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick

MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, dark reddened purple.  It’s not exactly the purple you first think of, but I find myself always gravitating back to using the word purple to describe the color.  It’s incredibly dark, certainly vampy, and it packs quite a bit of color.  It is a little on the dry side, though nothing overwhelmingly dry (a la Ruby Woo), so do take care and prep lips by exfoliating them prior to application.

NYX Hero Round Lipstick

NYX Hero Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deepened neutral-cool blue-based red with a creamy, glossy finish and opaque color.  My NYX Round Lipsticks seem to be scent-free overall, but I do have a few that were brand new and smelled a little on the plastic side, while a couple had more of a general perfume-y feel.  I’m not entirely sure why there is so much variation across the board!   I love the texture and feel of their Round Lipsticks, though; incredibly creamy and the darker shades are certainly quite pigmented.  They do have a fair amount of slip, so they may bleed if you’re prone to to that, and I don’t find they last more than two to three hours, with darker shades on the three hour side and some leaving behind a soft stain.

MAC Explicit Lipglass

MAC Explicit Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a sheer taupe-brown kind of lipgloss.  It’s gray, it’s taupe, it’s the grayest mauve.    I think Explicit is such an interesting shade, and it works really well layered over darker, vampier shades for some shimmer and glossiness while not reducing the boldness of the lipstick itself.  Worn alone, it darkens my natural lip color just a touch while adding a ton of taupe and light brown shimmer on lips while the base color is rather sheer.  Like all MAC lipglasses, it is one of the stickier glosses on the market and has a vanilla scent.

Benefit Ms. Behavin’ Lipstick Lipstick

Benefit Ms. Behavin’ Lipstick ($18.00 for oz.) is creamy mulberry in their Silky Finish line-up.  It’s a reddened berry with dark fuchsia micro-shimmer.  It has a very glaze-like finish–it’s got that look of a sheer lipstick, but it’s not that sheer (though it’s not opaque!).  There’s a nice natural glossiness to the lipstick as well, so it can be worn alone without looking dry.  I find Benefit’s Silky Finish lipsticks are moisturizing, lightweight, and comfortable to wear.
