5 Ways to Wear:  Purple Eyeshadow

Featuring MAC Satellite Dreams

MAC Satellite Dreams Eyeshadow is a gorgeous shade of muted, toned-down medium purple. It’s really a wearable shade of purple — not bright like Stars ‘n Rockets, nor too pale like Digit. Here are five different ways you can wear this fun shadow!

The Star

Start by applying your favorite neutral base (e.g. MAC Soft Ochre paint pot, Urban Decay Primer Potion, or Too Faced Shadow Insurance) all over your lid. Apply Shroom eyeshadow to the inner third of the eye lid with a fluffy shadow brush like the 239. Lightly apply Seedy Pearl eyeshadow to the middle third of the lid with a fluffy shadow brush. With a fluffy crease brush like the 226, apply Satellite Dreams eyeshadow to the outer third of the lid and blend into the crease. Darken the crease by lighting tapping Contrast eyeshadow into the outer third of the crease with a pencil brush like the 219. Finish by highlighting the brow bone with Shroom eyeshadow, lining the lower lash line with a soft black, and applying a few coats of black mascara onto upper and lower lashes. For lips, try using a plummy-pink or neutral pink lipstick/gloss. For cheeks, a cool-toned pink or soft raspberry will do the trick.

#10, 5, 75, 39,

I love trying out new color combinations, and lately, I’ve been a little stumped when I’ve gone to the “drawing board” aka the mirror/my face. I thought I might try thinking up some combinations in advance so that I’m not staring at myself in the mirror for ten minutes like an idiot, LOL! I thought I’d share four I managed to come up with :)

5 Tips to Look Gorgeous This Summer

Monday will kick off the summer season, and if you live in an area where summer means heat… you know your makeup routine tends to change. Between heat, humidity, enjoying the outdoors, and for many, vacation, here are some of my favorite tips on adjusting your makeup for summer!

Tinted moisturizer is your friend! Whether you mix your own by mixing your existing foundation with your favorite moisturizer or you invest in a specific tinted moisturizer, it is a great alternative to regular foundations (especially if you tend to wear liquid foundation!). It’s lightweight, melts on the skin, and it still gives you just a little coverage while still looking extremely natural. Many tinted moisturizers also include SPF–which is a must when the sun is shining (and even when you don’t think it is).

A-hoy waterproof mascara! Keep those lashes looking long and luscious without worrying about flaking, smudging, or budging while you’re enjoying the day by investing in a good waterproof mascara. One tip I have is to use your regular mascara first, and then do one coat of waterproof mascara. If you have any issues removing waterproof makeup, try an oil-based makeup remover like MAC’s Cleanse-off Oil or shu uemura’s Cleansing Oil–or even just plain ol’ olive oil.

The best in beauty products that have truly stood the test of time. Tried and true, these still rock.

Calvin Klein Delicious Light Glistening Lip Gloss ($17.00) was a surprising discovery I made during last year’s Friends & Family sale at Sephora. I impulsively purchased Maven lip gloss, and I was quite pleased with it when I received it. In fact, I liked it so much, I went to my local Sephora and picked up three more — Knockout, Taffy, and Radar (at full price, even!). Shimmery, fairly pigmented glosses with exceptional glossiness and smooth texture. It didn’t feel sticky to me, but it wasn’t slipping off my lips either. Available at Sephora.com.

Yes To Carrots C Me Smile Lip Butters ($3.69) is one of those brands I find cute, affordable, and reliable. I’ve never not loved a Yes To Carrots product. They have a whole slew of flavors from Citrus (my personal favorite!), Melon, Berry, Carrot, and Mint. Super hydrating, deliciously scented, and lightly glossy. These just melt like butter on your lips. Available at Drugstore.comicon.

The best in beauty products that have truly stood the test of time. Tried and true, these still rock.

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($34.00) come in eighteen creamy, sexy shades. (YSL’s Fall 2009 Collection will add four more shades to the line-up.) I believe I own about seven or eight of the available shades, and I adore them. This is my favorite lipstick formula, because each lipstick is extremely creamy, richly pigmented, glossy, and hydrating. I eagerly await the unveiling of the new shades for fall! Available at Nordstromicon and Sephora.com.

Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara ($30.00) is a mascara I often reach for since I’ve tried it. I love the intensity of the black, the length it gives, and it doesn’t clump up too easily. It’s a bit pricey, but I do really like the formula and what it does to my lashes. It almost edges out my beloved MAC Plushlash mascara, but the price makes it not quite as fabulous. Available at Nordstromicon.
