You know how passionate we are about SPF and suncare here at Temptalia, so it should come as no surprise that we want to do our part in raising awareness and spreading the word about the Skin Cancer Foundation’s latest campaign.

WHAT: The official ribbon cutting by Dr. Perry Robins for the launch of Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour presented by AVEENO® and Rite Aid will take place in front of the Tour’s 38-foot customized RV. Free full body skin cancer screenings by board-certified dermatologists will be offered in a private room inside the RV for the public. Guiding Light actors will also be stopping by to receive screenings.

WHERE: Union Square 16th Street between 5th Avenue and Union Square West

WHEN: Friday, May 2nd, 12:00 – 3:00

WHY: Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 1 million cases diagnosed annually across the country. Skin cancer is also the most preventable and curable form of cancer if it is detected early. This kick-off is the first stop of the Tour which will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country to educate people about the importance of an annual skin check with their doctor, and get the message out that it is crucial for everyone, no matter their skin color, to practice sun safety. More than 10,000 people are expected to be screened during the entire tour.

“Many people don’t know that they should get a yearly skin exam. The goal of this tour is to educate the public about skin cancer and encourage people to schedule regular skin screenings,” said Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “Caught in the early stages, skin cancer is almost always curable.”

The Road to Healthy Skin Tour will kick off in New York City in early May and run through the fall. The tour is expected to screen more than 10,000 people and will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country. The screenings will take place in one of two private rooms and are quick, easy and potentially life-saving. The tour will provide printed informational materials and sunscreen samples to help protect skin.

Take a look at their schedule to see when they’ll be in your community!

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a makeover (I want to say not since my Chanel makeover last May), and to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of makeovers, but I really enjoyed this one.  Perhaps it’s because I’m so into blogging nowadays, so I always have a lot of questions to ask, and I’m really listening to what they’re saying.  The picture above is me post-makeover, and it turned out well, thanks to Kim the Lancome Expert.

First, since the event was focused on Dr. Klauer and her philosophies about eating right and exercising, I want to talk a little about what I gleaned from her.  I do want to preface it with the fact that I have not read her first book, though now I have an advanced copy of her second book (all attendees received a signed copy!).  She spoke about the importance of getting certain vitamins, like Vitamin D-3 and Omega-3

She talked a bit about the importance of calcium and getting a bone density scans once you start menapause.  The reason for this is because it gives you a baseline so you can see how and how fast your bone density is decreasing.  She advocates eating more fish, because of the benefits of them as a food, but also because of their Omega-3 amount.  She does mention that if you’re young or still planning to have children to make sure you are aware of mercury levels in fish, so you may want to dry dark Italian tuna

There’s tons more advice and makeup tricks I learned and heard… Read the rest of this entry »

THE HAIR created by Avon Global Stylist Advisors Allen Ruiz, Anthony Barrow and Chie Sugwara was inspired by the romance of the Cynthia Rowley Collection. Ruiz, Barrow and Chie wanted to keep the girls looking beautiful with very soft romantic hair. The look is matte in texture for movement on the runway, and shiny to keep with the romance of the collection. The team used Avon Advanced Techniques Volumizing Mousse on damp hair focusing on the roots to create a volume foundation and gave the models’ hair “guts” and shine throughout. Hair was blow dried using the Avon Advance Techniques Two-Sided Oval Brush. To add texture and volume to the hair the Avon Advance Techniques Extra Hold Hair Spray was used while blow drying and back-combing the hair with the Avon Advanced Techniques Flair Styler Brush. Finally, they applied a mist of Avon Advance Techniques Mirror Shine Spray to create a “halo” effect at the crown adding to the contrasting of textures of smooth crown and texturized full body.

THE LOOK Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury created a look for Cynthia Rowley that was inspired by a fresh, modern storybook Victorian fairytale girl who looks as if she has just come in from the cold. Tilbury mixed Avon Be Blushed Cheek Color in Pink Melon, Mandarin Glow and Golden Rose to give the model’s pale, fresh skin a luminous, soft rosy flushed look. To create complementing lip look, like the girls had just been eating berries, she then gently stained the center of the lips with Avon Be Blushed in Crushed Berry. Tilbury kept the eyes fresh by adding just a bit of Avon Glazewear Lipgloss in Clear along the lids from lash to brow. This gave them a subtle sheen with lids that catch the light. Finally, she curled the lashes and applied a few coats of Avon SuperSHOCK Mascara in black to the top lashes only, which added subtle definition to the lashes.

Edward Tricomi’s vision for J. Mendel’s fashion show was a play on a classic chignon-turned youthful and modern with its unique oval-braided shape.

To get the look, Edward simply double-parted hair, and pulled the sectioned off portion into a small ponytail, wrapping a thin strand around a tiny pony holder. Then, grabbed all the hair into a big ponytail holder and braided it.

The last step is to wrap the braid into an oval shaped chignon, securing with several hairpins. The Warren-Tricomi’s Flexible Hairspray was used to give hair a matte look minus the stiffness.
