New York Fashion Week S/S 2009 has begun! It’s official, the illustrious New York Fashion Week kicks off today, but surely has already shown signs of life this week. We might not be backstage this year, but you can definitely get your Fashion Week fix. Who knows, the coverage might even be better since I’ll have time to blog about it!
Here’s one way you can see what’s happening and get the insider track — check out MAC Cosmetics’ Twitter widget! It’s posted on our right sidebar, just scroll a little bit, and you’ll se it. I posted an article earlier this week about MAC’s Twittering Artists, and now you can easily keep up as you check out the blog!
What would YOU like to see me cover for Fashion Week? Do you want product suggestions for runway looks?Actual look breakdowns?
Fashion Week kicks off this Friday, September 5th, 2008 — how excited are you? In February, Temptalia was there for a couple of days in person, but this year, we’ll be remote bloggin’ it. There’s been an increase in access to the shows for those not in attendance, and it looks like MAC wants to bring backstage to your e-doorstep!
MAC Cosmetics plan to capitalize on consumers’ rising, and many say reality TV-induced, interest in fashion and their curiosity about the shows behind the scenes. For the first time in the 15 years it has sponsored Fashion Week is exposing the backstage goings-on at New York, London, Milan, and Paris shows via Twitter.
Through a Facebook widget set to launch sometime next week, fans will be able to access tweets from individual pro-team MAC artists who will have to do a minimum of 15 tweets per day.
The initiative supports the branch’s strategy to use alternative media to gain awareness and get new fans, many of whom are active in social networks, explains Laura Elkins, VP of global consumer marketing and artist relations. She adds that it also supports MAC’s “heritage in fashion.”
“We want to engage fashion fans, beauty junkies, and loyalists. [Backstage] is not accessible to them usually,” says Evans. “It’s a great way for them to connect with our senior artists.”
The team will feature the Twitter initiative on its Facebook group and, working with Paul Wilmot Communications, promote the initiative via outreach to fashion and beauty bloggers and online magazines. — Source
Is it something you’re interested in? Will you be watching the widget? I know I’ll be totally amazed at the artists being able to manage twitter while working. Backstage is crazy-insane, always rushed, and just all around chaotic. It’s hard to imagine an artist having a free moment (or hand, for that matter) to “tweet.” (My twitter page!)
Keri Hilson will being debuting her solo album this September, so she’s been increasing her guest appearances, including 106th & Park yesterday, as well TRL (which will air Wednesday). Keri Hilson appeared on Timbaland’s “The Way I Are,” and she has also written for Justin Timberlake, The Pussycat Dolls, and Britney Spears. The shot above was taken before she went on stage (obviously!), still getting some last minute preppin’ in.
MAC Cosmetics Senior Artist Romero Jennings did her makeup for her recent appearances:
Prep + Prime Skin
Moisture Blend Foundation NC42,NC43 and NW45 Matte Bronzing Powder
Blush in Sunbasque and Frankly Scarlet
Eye shadow: Saddle, Blacktied, Cream de Violet, Blacktrack Fluidline Gel Liner

Romero gives us a quick how-to for this look:
Pump up lashes top and bottom with 2 coats of prep and prime mascara. Then add one heavy winter coat of Plushlash mascara in Plushblack. I then add the #7 lashes which I cut into fine pieces and place on the top lashes! The skin was primed with Prep + Prime Skin and polished with a sheer coat of MoistureblendFoundation that is highlighted with Moisturelush Eye Cream and contoured Matte Bronzer! Shadows were pumped up with Creme de Violet used as a liner/shadow under eye while Saddle and Black Tied shadows frames the eye!

I know we have many readers who are excitedly anticipating the release of the SAtC movie! Who is your favorite character? Who are you most like?

This kick-off is the first stop of the Tour which will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country to educate people about the importance of an annual skin check with their doctor, and get the message out that it is crucial for everyone, no matter their skin color, to practice sun safety. More than 10,000 people are expected to be screened during the entire tour.
“Many people don’t know that they should get a yearly skin exam. The goal of this tour is to educate the public about skin cancer and encourage people to schedule regular skin screenings,” said Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “Caught in the early stages, skin cancer is almost always curable.”
The Road to Healthy Skin Tour will kick off in New York City in early May and run through the fall. The tour is expected to screen more than 10,000 people and will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country.
