As someone with a warmer complexion, I always go gold during the holidays, but I would be remiss if I didn’t consider the opposite–silver–which can work well to brighten and reflect just as nicely as gold!

  1. Le Metier de Beaute Platinum — a bright, metallic silver
  2. NARS Interstellar — a frosted, metallic silver cream
  3. Urban Decay Cuff — a brightened silver eyeliner–perfect for brightening up a smoky eye
  4. Inglot #447 — an extremely bright silver with a highly metallic finish in powder form
  5. Zoya Electra — silver tinsel with a holographic finish to make any nail color festive

It might be cliche to opt for a top five of orange-colored products with Halloween a few weeks away, but hey! it’s just an excuse to pay homage to some of my favorite oranges. :)

  1. Buxom Rogue — a luminous, rich orange-red with intense color payoff and a wonderfully comfortable formula
  2. Zoya Amy — a rich, molten orange with hints of deep gold and metallic shimmer
  3. Sugarpill Flamepoint — a true orange with a matte finish that’s incredibly pigmented
  4. Maybelline Electric Orange — a lush orange with a glossy sheen for under $10!
  5. Sleek Sunset #4 — it may be part of a palette (which I try to avoid, but the price point on this palette is so low, plus the palette is amazing from start to finish, I couldn’t resist!), but it’s such a bright and rich shade of tangerine with so much color payoff!

Zoya Belinda Nail Lacquer
Zoya Belinda Nail Lacquer

Zoya Belinda Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “full-coverage, cosmic purple metallic.” It’s a rich, dark, royal purple with cool undertones and violet and plum shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but the consistency was a little thin, and it seemed to show some streaking. Zoya Suri (P, $8.00) was the only similar shade I could think of, but it is warmer. See comparison swatches.

Cassedy Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “full-coverage, celestial pewter metallic.” It’s a muted, green-gray with a frosted, metallic finish. It was opaque in two coats, and it applied evenly and smoothly. Urban Decay Addiction (LE, $15.00) is warmer, less green. Chanel Graphite (LE, $27.00) is also warmer. Zoya Tao (P, $8.00) is less metallic, bluer. See comparison swatches.

Seraphina Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “full-coverage, Polaris silver metallic.” It’s a pale, silvery white with a metallic finish. It was semi-opaque after two coats, and it looked streaky/uneven with two coats. I would recommend applying a third coat. Dior Lady (LE, $26.00) is more metallic, less glittery. China Glaze Icicle (LE, $8.00) is darker. China Glaze Frosty (LE, $8.00) is similar. See comparison swatches

Earthy… weathered… how about five shades of stormy gray? Gray can be such a basic shade, but it can add a lot of dimension and depth, too, and sometimes it can look so modern and clean on its own.

  1. NARS Transvaal — can be used as an eyeliner or cream eyeshadow, it’s a medium-dark, creamy gray with neutral-cool undertones
  2. MAC Typographic — a classic, dark gray with a matte finish
  3. Illamasqua Raindrops — a smattering of silver flakes suspended in a bluish-gray
  4. Inglot #387 — a cool-toned, blue-tinted gray with a mostly matte finish
  5. Zoya Dove — a medium, warm-toned gray cream

What’s your current go-to gray shade?

Zoya Dream Nail Lacquer
Zoya Dream Nail Lacquer

Zoya Dream Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep space blue halo.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark blue with an assortment of sparkle and shimmer, both in color and in size. The consistency is not quite watery, but it’s thinner, and with two coats, I still had some visible nail line. Sometimes I noticed it, other times it seemed opaque, but it depended on the lighting and angle. I didn’t have any blue nail lacquers that were similar, because the composition of the shimmer/sparkle in Dream was missing from other blues I’ve reviewed previously.

Mosheen Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as an “astro ice blue topper.” It’s an iridescent layering top coat filled with bar glitter that goes from blue to green to pink, bits of copper, purple, and blue sparkle. This is described as a layering product, so while it can be worn however you like, it is designed to be applied over your favorite polish. For swatches, I layered it over Dream. It had good layering coverage in one coat (which is what I applied over Dream), and it has a cool look when applied as two coats by itself. It appears very wintry, because it has a very light coloring when applied on the nail alone. It goes on mostly even but you may need to push a few bits into place. Not a dupe really, but Zoya Maisie has a shifting flake glitter in it, which did remind me of this, but it is definitely more dominantly green-to-blue shift. Zoya Electra has larger bar glitter, and the bar glitter tends to look silver half the time.

Payton Nail Lacquer ($8.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “galactic cranberry halo.” It’s a rich, deep eggplant purple with cool, berry-pink undertones, and a mix of cranberry, copper, and violet shimmer and sparkle. After two coats, it was mostly opaque and appeared nearly full coverage most of the time, but when I held my nails away, you could see that it wasn’t fully opaque. The consistency was similar to Dream, so it was thinner and not quite watery, but a part of me wanted to call it watery. It applied evenly and easily, and it had a soft shine to its natural dry down. Urban Decay Vice is similar in color but lacks the sparkle and slight shift. Chanel Taboo is darker, purpler, less sparkly. See comparison swatches.

I typically get a week of wear out of Zoya’s formula with minor tip wear but no chipping. These shades will debut October 1st! :)
