YSL Golden Glow (13) Couture Palette

YSL Golden Glow (13) Couture Palette
YSL Golden Glow (13) Couture Palette

YSL Golden Glow (13) Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a muted, neutral eyeshadow palette with subtle, warmer shades. The eyeshadows are supposed to be “intense” in color, long-wearing, and crease-proof. I like the way YSL’s Couture eyeshadow formula looks on the lid, but it is a formula that really needs a primer to last through the day–so if you typically wear primer, and you don’t already have neutrals covered, you might like this one. The eyeshadows are very soft, lightly dusty but “melt” a bit, where they meld with the skin and don”t just sit on it and look dry. Overall, the pigmentation was semi-opaque to opaque with most shades blending easily. They all faded noticeably within six to seven hours on me, though.

Golden Glow #1 is a light-medium taupe brown with warm undertones and a pearly shimmer finish. It had great color payoff paired with a soft, smooth, and blendable consistency. The color started to fade after six and a half hours of wear. theBalm #32 (P, $6.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Artificial Earth (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Giorgio Armani Flannel (08) (P, $39.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Dior House of Pinks #4 (LE) is darker (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Terra Sienna #2 (P) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Golden Glow #2 is a pale, white gold with a frosted shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly dusty, but blendable, texture that initially looked dry on the lid but seemed to “melt” and look more pearly after about a minute. The color wore well for six and a half hours on me. Becca Chardonnay (LE) is more shimmery, brighter (95% similar). Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). Dior Exuberante #3 (LE) is darker (95% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Iced Gold (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Opal (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Dior Golden Flower #2 (LE) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Taiga #1 (P, $25.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Photosphere (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Entrelacs #1 (LE) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Anastasia Soft Gold (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Fresh Blade (LE, $16.00) is brighter (90% similar). Guerlain Les Precieux #3 (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Makeup Atelier Honey Brown #1 (P) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Makeup Geek Artemis (LE, $6.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Pelican (LE) is darker (90% similar). LORAC Moonlight (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Posh Pedigree #1 (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Golden Glow #3 is a dark brown with a soft, satiny sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable color coverage, while the texture of the powdery was looser and more powdery. I had trouble blending this shade out on its own as it tended to adhere where it was initially applied. Over primer, it blended much better. I noticed fading with this shade after seven hours. Too Faced Obsessed (P) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Hourglass Obscura #4 (P) is warmer (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Disco Dust #4 (P) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Busted (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Too Faced Secret Lovers (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever S622 Black Brown (P, $21.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Mekong (P, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). YSL Fetiche #3 (LE) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). NARS Zagreb (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #4 (P) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Hourglass Graphite #3 (P) is darker (90% similar). MAC Constructivist (P, $18.50) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Kat Von D Ankh (LE) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Golden Glow #4 is a muted, medium-dark gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The pigmentation was good, though not fully opaque, while the texture had a slight dustiness to it, the color applied evenly and blended out easily to the lid. The color started to fade after seven hours on me. MAC Barefoot (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Burberry Gold #3 (LE) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Go for the Gold (LE) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Patina (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Joy Toy (LE, $20.00) is warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Amber (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). YSL Avant Garde #4 (P) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Dior Night Golds #5 (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). LORAC Navy #4 (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Sample Sized (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Golden Glow #5 is a medium-dark taupe with very subtle, warmer undertones but has a “cooler” tone overall (the shimmer makes it appear cooler, I’d say) paired with a lightly frosted finish. This shade had fantastic pigmentation that applied really well to bare skin–even, smooth, and blendable–but only wore for seven hours on me before fading noticeably. Clarins Rosewood #3 (P) is more shimmery (95% similar). Make Up For Ever I550 Olive Gray (P, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Pearled Earth (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Stroke My Ego (P, $18.50) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Cloudy Afternoon (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Cinder (Left) (LE) is warmer (90% similar). Sephora Don't Get Me Wrong (P, $12.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Satin Taupe (P, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). bareMinerals Upgrade (LE) is darker (85% similar). Tarte Steel the Scene (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). Chanel Tisse Rivoli #1 (P) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Zoeva Delicate Acidity (P) is darker, warmer (80% similar). YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette

YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette
YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette

YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.16 oz.) contains a mix of warmer neutrals with satin to frost finishes. The eyeshadows are supposed to be “intense” in color, long-wearing, and crease-proof. The palette largely performed as past Couture palettes have, which is with decent pigmentation, softer/dustier textures, and below-average wear but does improve significantly when used over a primer. While I typically like the end result of how the formula looks on the lid, this palette had one major miss–the light gold–that was just sheer and messy to work with, which is not at all the “intense color” promised.

Rosy Glow #1 is a light, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, though the slightly dusty texture made it prone to sheering out more readily on the skin unless it was applied over a primer. It was easy to blend and sat well on the skin. The color started to fade noticeably after six and a half hours of wear. MAC Dance Flowers Dance (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Sweet Lust (P, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). LORAC Blush (LE, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). Dior Trafalgar #1 (P) is lighter (95% similar). Guerlain Cygne Blanc #1 (LE) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Clarins Garden Escape #5 (LE) is lighter (90% similar). Chanel Harmonie du Soir #4 (LE) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Ulta Pink (P, $10.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Sweet Allure (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Pale Mauve (LE) is lighter (90% similar). Clarins Garden Escape #4 (LE) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Sephora Kimber (LE) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Glow #2 is a light gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, shimmery finish. It had sheer coverage, which was not buildable and did not perform significantly better over primer. This was so frustrating to discover in the palette, because at this price point, all five shades should perform well. It was dusty, messy to use, and lasted for five and a half hours. Dior Exuberante #3 (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Ors et Merveilles #3 (LE) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Viseart Alexandre Trois (P) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Bathwater (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Viseart Champs-Elysees (P) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Lancome Filigree (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Laura Mercier Dust (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #1 (P) is warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Bling (P, $6.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Iced Gold (LE) is less shimmery (90% similar). theBalm C1 (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Giorgio Armani #1 Fall Collection 2012 #2 (LE) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Becca Chardonnay (LE) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Anastasia Soft Gold (P, $12.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). LORAC Moonlight (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Tarte Party (LE) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Makeup Geek Artemis (LE, $6.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). MAC Fresh Blade (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, brighter (85% similar). LORAC Sand (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Glow #3 is a slightly muted, dark brown with warm undertones and a satin sheen. The texture was soft without being too powdery or too firm, so it applied with good coverage to bare skin but still blended out with ease. The color faded noticeably after seven and a half hours of wear. LORAC Black #5 (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). Dior Precious Embroidery #4 (LE) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Chanel Tisse Rivoli #4 (P) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Tisse Vendome #4 (P) is warmer (90% similar). YSL Saharienne #3 (P) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Clinique Pink Chocolate #4 (P, $15.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Dior Exuberante #5 (LE) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Burberry Gold #1 (LE) is warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Vengeance (LE, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). theBalm Fine (P, $16.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). bareMinerals Toasted Espresso (LE, $14.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). theBalm #8 (P, $6.50) is warmer (85% similar). Tarte Sinful (LE, $14.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Glow #4 is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a fine, golden shimmer. It had excellent pigmentation that applied well to bare skin. The texture was soft, blendable, and sat well on the skin. This shade wore for seven hours before fading noticeably. MAC Artistic License (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). bareMinerals Future (P) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). theBalm Third Eye Blinded (P, $16.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC Paradisco (P, $16.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #2 (LE) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). Hourglass Monochrome #2 (P) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Too Faced Ringleader (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). The Estee Edit Gleam (LE) is darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Freelove (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). NYX Golden Peach (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). Make Up For Ever D750 Frosted Peach (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Glow #5 is a medium-dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft, lightly dusty but smooth and blendable on the skin without looking dry or powdery when applied to the lid. The pigmentation was fully opaque and didn’t lose its intensity when blended. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours. MAC Twinks (P, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Cle de Peau Golden Age #1 (LE) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Silk Robe (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Peppermint Mocha (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). YSL Indie Jasper Couture Palette

YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette
YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette

YSL Indie Jaspe Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.18 oz.) contains five shades in warmer gold, peach, two greens, and then a cooler silver sparkle. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to have “intense color” that is “long-wearing and crease-proof” — to the tune of “12-hour hold.” This formula runs dusty/powdery, so there’s a dryness that just don’t work well on bare skin as the eyeshadows tended to sheer out and fade quickly.

Indie Jaspe #1 is a light, peachy orange with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft and finely-milled, but it was dusty and prone to sheering out. It started to fade after seven hours on me (not even close to 12-hours!).
NYX Girl Talk (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). LORAC Black Tie Attire #2 (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). theBalm D2 (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Seductive Beauty (Brighten) (LE) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Champagne Bubble Bath (LE) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC MACnificent Me (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). YSL Scandal #2 (LE) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Sin (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC Grain (P, $16.00) is lighter (85% similar). Hello Kitty Apple Pie (LE) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Viseart Pont des Arts (P) is darker (85% similar). Make Up For Ever I520 Pinky Sand (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Indie Jaspe #2 is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft, dusty texture that sheered out easily with some fall out. The color wore well for six hours before fading noticeably. LORAC Sugar (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Satin Ochre (Left) (LE) is lighter (95% similar). Chanel Poesie #2 (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Overdressed (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel #1 (LE) is darker (90% similar). Viseart Kifu (P) is darker (90% similar). MAC Ricepaper (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Viseart Bijoux Royal #2 (LE) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (P, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip #1 (LE) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Too-dle-oo (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury The Rebel #1 (P) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). NARS Shade IV (LE, $25.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Indie Jaspe #3 is a sparkling silver. It is more like a loose glitter/sparkle than an eyeshadow, as none of it sticks well to skin–I had a ton of fall out within a couple of hours of wearing this–and it’s better patted over a tacky base or glitter adhesive, though it was impossible to make opaque for me. Bobbi Brown Tinsel (LE) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Oyster (Eye Color) (LE) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Revolt (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Lilac Dream #2 (P) is brighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Indie Jaspe #4 is a muted, dark olive green with warm undertones and a soft, satin shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, finely-milled texture that was just a smidgen dusty. The color wore well for eight hours on me before fading. Tom Ford Beauty Last Dance #4 (P) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #2 (P) is less shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Clarins Forest #3 (LE) is darker (85% similar). Stila Seaweed (LE, $18.00) is lighter (85% similar). Dior Bonne Etoile (384) #1 (LE) is warmer (85% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Smoky Emerald (P) is warmer (85% similar). Guerlain Khaki Mono (07) (P, $34.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Indie Jaspe #5 is a pale, minty green with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that was a little dusty. It sheered out on the lid, unfortunately, and it didn’t adhere well to bare skin–really needed a good, tacky primer to shine. It lasted for six hours. MAC Jealous Girl (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). Buxom Room Service (P, $12.00) is brighter (90% similar). theBalm #36 (P, $6.50) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Natasha Denona Golden Aquamarine (86P) (P, $29.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC Zestful (LE, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #4 (P) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). City Color Hint of Mint (P, $6.99) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes #4 (P) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). City Color Tide Pool (P, $6.99) is darker, more muted (80% similar). Disney by Sephora Atlantica (LE) is darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

YSL Tangerine Boho (42) Glossy Stain

YSL Tangerine Boho (42) Glossy Stain
YSL Tangerine Boho (42) Glossy Stain

YSL Tangerine Boho (42) Glossy Stain ($36.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bright, medium-dark coral-red with warm undertones and a glossy finish. MAC Knockout (LE, $15.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Flash Drive (LE, $20.00) is brighter (90% similar). MAC Berry Bold (LE, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Punch Drunk (P, $26.00) is lighter (90% similar). Illamasqua Temper (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Push Some Buttons (LE, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). YSL Orange de Chine (8) (P, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Gone Bad (216) (DC, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Becca Papaya/Topaz (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter, less pigmented (80% similar). Sephora Fresh Mango (26) (P, $12.00) is lighter, less pigmented (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

The Glossy Stain formula is supposed to have the “texture and shine of a gloss” with the “long wear of a stain.” I’ve long been a fan of the Glossy Stain formula for a long-wearing gloss with (often) good pigmentation. It had good color payoff with a little translucency that gave it that stained look where the natural lip color comes through slightly. The color went on beautifully with smooth, even coverage that made lips look fuller and smoother (lines were less noticeable–and I was pleasantly surprised the color didn’t gather heavily in the lines!). The texture feels very thin and watery initially, but after a couple of minutes, it develops into a moderately tacky, more gel-like consistency that is thicker and much glossier. On me, it was still going strong after eight hours of wear and was neither drying nor hydrating. The formula has a fruity scent to it, which wasn’t too noticeable when worn.

YSL Peace Green & Love Pink La Laque Couture

YSL La Laque Couture
YSL La Laque Couture

YSL Peace Green La Laque Couture ($28.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a light-medium aqua green with warm undertones and fine, pearly shimmer that shifts from warmer copper to light pink. It was a thicker, but watery, polish that was hard for me to apply evenly, as the polish would pull to the edges and create an uneven surface, even if I laid my hands flat to try and help the polish level. It had semi-opaque coverage, and I didn’t notice the shimmer create visible lines/streaks. It lasted for seven days with minor tip wear. Cult Nails Thrive (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Rescue Beauty Lounge Liberty (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On (LE, $7.50) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

YSL Love Pink La Laque Couture ($28.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with fine, gold shimmer that shifts from a warmer, orange-gold to a lighter, paler gold. The consistency was thick but running, and the polish tended to pool along the edges without self-leveling as it dried down. It was hard to get streak-free coverage as the shimmer created fine lines that were sometimes visible–depended on the light. Two coats of polish yielded mostly opaque coverage, but you can see some of the nail line coming through. It wore for seven days with minor tip wear on me. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Femme (P, $10.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain Gemma (P, $26.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
