YSL Golden Gloss

YSL Spring 2010 Collection:  New Golden Glosses

For Spring, YSL released two new shades of Golden Gloss ($29.00 for 0.20 oz.)! #20 Golden Macademia is is a peachy-beige with a champagne-pink sparkle. #19 Golden Petal is a medium pink with a yellow undertone and gold shimmer. Both shades are on the sheerer side, but they both give/change my lips color.

  • Golden Macademia mutes the natural pink in my lips and makes it look like a softened pink-nude. This is is the kind of gloss that works well layered over your favorite nude lipstick or worn alone for a more minimal look. It’s nice paired with a smoky eye or even with neutrals for a more every day kind of look.
  • Golden Petal is a soft, milky pink that goes on semi-opaque. It was surprisingly pigmented, as I rarely find a milky pink that still has the soft, milkiness without severe settling into lip lines. The golden shimmer really makes this a nice, warmer pink gloss–an excellent color for those with warmer skin tones in particular.

I was quite impressed by the pigmentation of both of these new Golden Glosses, as they’re often more on the sheer side. I’ve always liked the sparkle-factor of Golden Glosses, and these still have that beautiful, shimmering sparkle that Golden Glosses are known for, but with a little more amped up color pay off. YSL Golden Glosses are non-sticky, moisturizing with a soft, mango-y scent that last about average (two to three hours on me).

YSL #29 Rouge Volupte

YSL for Spring 2010:  Opera Rose Rouge Volupte

YSL Opera Rose (#29) Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($34.00) is a creamy, medium pink with neutral undertones. It’s hard to find a pink that it’s blue-based, and then to find one that is more neutral or yellow in undertone is a real pleasure for me–just because it’s easier for me to wear less blue-based pinks with my skin tone.

Opera Rose is a new-for-spring shade, and it’s definitely apropos for the season. It’s not too pale or light–it’s a solid medium pink. It’s not bright either. Like the rest of the Rouge Volupte line, Opera Rose applies smoothly and evenly to lips with full color coverage and a glossy sheen. These are some of the creamiest lipsticks I’ve ever tried! They just glide on and feel amazing.

The only downside is that because of their creaminess, it tends to slip around a bit and I typically only get two or three hours of wear with them. They remind me a bit of the texture and creaminess of MAC Slimshines, but these pack on way more color (all the shades I’ve tried have been totally opaque). The packaging of the Rouge Voluptes is lovely–the YSL signature gold metal casing, but it has this nice detail around the center of the lipstick that has the YSL logo.

Pricing-wise, it’s in-line with YSL’s products and not out of the normal range for similar brands either! Not your most affordable lipstick, but it can be a nice indulgence without totally breaking the bank. I really only wish that these would last longer on lips — it’s easy to run through a tube of this if you reapply throughout the day and wear it a few days a week!

The Yves Saint Laurent END-OF-YEAR 2009 make-up collection celebrates passionate colors to dazzle the year’s most festive evenings. Leaving glitter behind, Yves Saint Laurent opts for the ultimate chic of pure, vibrant, incandescent colors. From sublime red to deep plum, the shades adapt with variable textures, multiple effects and powerful combinations. Worn alone in a refined monochrome or paired in contrasting duos, they are intensely alive and designed to be freely expressed for an instinctive, ultra couture make-up look.

Gold or silver, these sparkling compacts are engraved with the emblematic Yves Saint Laurent heart. Their black vinyl straps slip onto a key ring, handbag or belt. For daytime or night time, for lips or eyes, they feature two harmonious duos for liberated, intuitive application.

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

This summer, YSL launched a new shade of Everlong Waterproof Mascara — Ever Peacock Blue ($28.50). It’s described as a “luminous blue,” though I would say it’s more like a rich navy blue with just a hint of green in it. The above photo used a primer base (MAC Prep + Prime Lash), and then a few coats of the Everlong. This was actually my first time trying a YSL mascara, and I was pleased with the length, natural curl (these lashes weren’t curled!), and thickness. I felt like the formula didn’t give into clumping at all, which has always been an issue for me as I tend to pile on more mascara than the average person, I’d say!

I liked using this colored version of Everlong, because it felt lightweight, fun, and minimalistic. It’s like a twist on sporting colored eyeliner on a lazy day. If I’m lazy or out of time in the morning, a few coats of this blue-hued mascara makes the whites of my eyes look a little whiter and opens up my eyes just a wee bit more. For me, the only downside to this mascara is the price tag, which is a bit steep for a mascara that is more of a novelty than an everyday staple. (In black, I could easily see myself using this regularly, so then it’d be worth it to me, since I’d get through on a tube in a couple of months.)

Are you a colored mascara fan? Why/why not?

YSL Fall 2009 Collection Sneak Peek – Part 1

YSL for Fall 2009 made our hearts flutter with its stunning promotional imagery. I’m not shocked, either! With the introduction of four new shades of Rouge Volupte, stunning quints, and new Gloss Volupte? I knew this collection was going to cause a stir. Today, let’s preview Frivolous Pink Rouge Volupte ($34.00) — my very favorite lipstick formula — which is a gorgeous shade of milky pink that runs just a touch cool, but it’s not nearly as cool or as pale as Lingerie Pink, but it is not as bright as Fetish Pink. It applies smoothly, evenly, and feels moisturizing as you wear it. This is one of the creamiest lipsticks I’ve had the pleasure of using.
