This summer, YSL launched a new shade of Everlong Waterproof Mascara — Ever Peacock Blue ($28.50). It’s described as a “luminous blue,” though I would say it’s more like a rich navy blue with just a hint of green in it. The above photo used a primer base (MAC Prep + Prime Lash), and then a few coats of the Everlong. This was actually my first time trying a YSL mascara, and I was pleased with the length, natural curl (these lashes weren’t curled!), and thickness. I felt like the formula didn’t give into clumping at all, which has always been an issue for me as I tend to pile on more mascara than the average person, I’d say!

I liked using this colored version of Everlong, because it felt lightweight, fun, and minimalistic. It’s like a twist on sporting colored eyeliner on a lazy day. If I’m lazy or out of time in the morning, a few coats of this blue-hued mascara makes the whites of my eyes look a little whiter and opens up my eyes just a wee bit more. For me, the only downside to this mascara is the price tag, which is a bit steep for a mascara that is more of a novelty than an everyday staple. (In black, I could easily see myself using this regularly, so then it’d be worth it to me, since I’d get through on a tube in a couple of months.)

Are you a colored mascara fan? Why/why not?

YSL Fall 2009 Collection Sneak Peek – Part 1

YSL for Fall 2009 made our hearts flutter with its stunning promotional imagery. I’m not shocked, either! With the introduction of four new shades of Rouge Volupte, stunning quints, and new Gloss Volupte? I knew this collection was going to cause a stir. Today, let’s preview Frivolous Pink Rouge Volupte ($34.00) — my very favorite lipstick formula — which is a gorgeous shade of milky pink that runs just a touch cool, but it’s not nearly as cool or as pale as Lingerie Pink, but it is not as bright as Fetish Pink. It applies smoothly, evenly, and feels moisturizing as you wear it. This is one of the creamiest lipsticks I’ve had the pleasure of using.

YSL Fall 2009 Collection Sneak Peek – Part 3

YSL for Fall 2009 sees the introduction and limited release of three cream blushes, available in Velvety Peach, Powdery Rose, and Silky Praline ($38.00 each). YSL describes them as…

Velvety soft, airy, as light as a cloud… A delicious texture that melts on the skin and brings a rosy warmth to the cheeks. A sensual cream blush that becomes an irresistible powdery veil on contact with the skin, accentuates the cheekbones and instantly illuminates the face. No layered effect, no mask feeling… just a touch of bare-skin color for a radiant, natural-looking glow.

I would definitely have to agree with the soft, airiness of the product. It feels extremely light to the touch, and it is certainly creamy–without being thick or goopy. I was able to play with Powdery Rose, which is a soft, pale pink when sheered out. It can be layered for more intense color or sheered out for subtle color, depending on your preferences and needs. There’s just the faintest shimmer/sheen in it, but the sheerer you wear it, the less noticeable the shimmer is. I prefer to use a stippling brush like the 188 to apply this to cheeks, because it gives you more control over the application and allows you to build up the intensity to the level you want without any fuss.

YSL Fall 2009 Collection Sneak Peek – Part 2

YSL for Fall 2009 also features two new 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes Palettes in Bronze Gold and Midnight ($56.00 each). I was able to check out Midnight, which is a stunning selection of silver/gray matched with a bright pop of slightly cool-toned silver flecked pink and a smoky shade of plummy purple. There are a bright silver, a grayish silver, and a matte black eyeshadows also included in the palette. All of the eyeshadows are housed in a “gold” palette with traditional YSL branding. I love the packaging, because I feel like it seems more elegant than traditional plastic packaging, though it does attract fingerprints like crazy!

Apparently, this post never got posted… and I meant to have it post in February! Oh well, better late than never…

Two more items from my Sephora.com Friends & Family haul — you can tell it takes me awhile to get through what I buy, LOL. A lot of times when I buy product exclusively for myself, I forget to blog about it, too! Pictured above is YSL Golden Gloss #9 in Golden Garnet ($28.00), and it is sooo pretty! I was really excited when I received it, because it has loads of shimmer and everything that makes a Golden Gloss a Golden Gloss–but it added a lot of color to my lips. (I apologize for not having lip swatches.) It’s this raspberry pink color with golden and pink shimmer. This may be my favorite Golden Gloss ever.

The other lipgloss I purchased was YSL Touche Brilliance in #7 Petal Rose ($29.00), and while it’s pretty, it didn’t do very much for me at the end of the day. It’s fairly sheer, and the shimmer is subtler than Golden Gloss but still noticeable. I found that it had a lot of glossy sheen to it, though, which is a plus. I think what made it less exciting is that I tried it right after Golden Garnet, which just takes the cake for me. This color doesn’t do much for me on my lips, beyond a MLBB kind of effect plus shimmer. I’m also not sold on the lip brush kind of packaging — I think I prefer wands and the like, just because I feel like the brush gets easily gunked up and needs to be cleaned from time to time. I haven’t given up on the Touche Brilliance formula yet, but I definitely gotta look for shades with more pigmentation!
