Wet ‘n’ Wild Maldives Sky Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette ($4.99 for 0.19 oz.) consists of five shades: aqua, purple, dark gray, bluish-teal, and blue. The formula is supposed to be “ultra-pigmented,” “crease-resistant,” and “last all day.”

Maldives Sky #1 is a light-medium aqua with a soft, frosted finish. It had good color payoff, but it was slightly powdery and almost looked chalky when applied to the lid. Inglot #345 is greener. Jasmine Blue Oasis is matte but close in color (slightly bluer). NARS Debbie Harry #4 is darker. Sugarpill Mochi is darker. MAC Aqua is slightly greener and matte. This particular hue is not well-known for being nicely pigmented, regardless of brand, which is not a justification but worth noting that it’s hard to get it right.

Maldives Sky #2 is a dark purple with subtle cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had sheer color payoff, but the worst part was how dry and stiff the texture was. Wet ‘n’ Wild Drinking a Glass of Shine #4 is very similar but more pigmented. Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away is shimmery. Inglot #379 is brighter, bolder.

Maldives Sky #3 is a dark gray with a matte finish and neutral undertones. You may notice a pattern developing here: sheerer color payoff, dry, stiff texture. Urban Decay Desperation is cooler-toned. MAC Scene is similar but satiny. Chanel Gris Exquis is darker. Inglot #339 is similar.

Maldives Sky #4 is a medium-dark teal with blue undertones and a slight dusting of silver pearl. It is dry, chalky, and sheer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning is less blue, frosted. Sugarpill Mochi is lighter. Sephora Curacao Punch is more glittery, brighter. MAC Robin’s Egg is more teal-hued.

Maldives Sky #5 is a medium-dark blue with a satin-like finish. It had decent to good color payoff, but it still had a drier, stiffer texture that made it hard to apply and harder to blend out. It is fairly comparable to Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away #8. MAC Switch to Blue is similar but a cream product.

I had a lot of trouble working with this palette; so much so, that I really just gave up after awhile, because the colors weren’t applying with much intensity, consistently disappearing, and had no desire to blend with each other. It was an exhausting exercise in frustration. Wet ‘n’ Wild’s Color Icon formula is so much better than this one, and that formula is such a winner and well-reviewed that I’m truly mind-boggled why they’d use something else (and one that was inferior).  When I wore what I did manage to apply, it wore well for about six hours before starting to fade.  It’s such a shame, because the colors they chose would be beautiful together, if only they were pigmented, soft, and smooth. You’re better off taking your $4.99 and buying one of the existing Color Icon palettes.

Wet ‘n’ Wild Desert Festival Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette ($4.99 for 0.19 oz.) is a five-pan palette that features a warm-toned, desert-inspired color scheme.

Desert Festival #1 is a pale, warm-toned beige with a satin finish. It had sheer color payoff; the texture was dry and stiff, so it made it harder to get enough product out to see more opaque color. (It looks even sheerer than it is, because it also happens to be nearly identical to my skin color!) MAC Grain is more frosted, slightly lighter. MAC Naked Lunch is a bit darker.

Desert Festival #2 is a brightened, medium orange with a matte finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, though the texture was so soft that it was also a bit dusty. I didn’t have anything quite like this–there’s a very even balance between yellow and red in this shade, so it doesn’t turn too reddish or get too dark, but it’s also not a yellowy orange. Other oranges that are matte tend to be darker and redder.

Desert Festival #3 is a neutral-toned taupe brown with a satiny finish. It was, unfortunately, rather dry and stiff in texture, so the resulting color payoff was disappointing. MAC Nebula is darker. bareMinerals Wanderlust is more frosted. bareMinerals Apropos is cooler-toned.  NARS Bali is cooler-toned, grayer. Inglot #363 is warmer.

Desert Festival #4 is a shimmery, lightened, medium-orange with warm undertones. It had a better texture than some of the other shades, so the pigmentation was better. Chanel Pearl River #4 is brighter. Milani Primary Runway Eyes #3 is darker, redder. MAC Fresh Daily is richer in color.

Desert Festival #5 is a grayish brown with a satiny finish. It is just a bit darker than the center shade–more distinctly cool-toned. It had underwhelming color payoff, as it, again, had a stiff and dry texture that made it hard to get product out of the pan. MAC Nebula is more shimmery. MAC Concrete is more matte.

Overall, I was disappointed in the palette, because it had a drier, stiffer texture that resulted in rather low color payoff.  The best performing shade was the matte orange, followed by the shimmery orange; the other three shades were hard to work with. Muse had a similar experience, and she and I both expounded the benefits of Color Icon over this.  I could not wear this palette without a primer and achieve any semblance of decent color payoff, despite Wet ‘n’ Wild claiming these are “ultra-pigmented” and “crease-resistant.”  I did wear the shades as they were without a primer, and I saw fading after six hours.  With a primer, I didn’t have trouble with the shades fading.   The three drier shades were harder to blend and definitely will take more time and attention to finesse the colors just right.  Wet ‘n’ Wild has done better in their Color Icon Trios/Palettes, so I’d recommend checking one of those in lieu of this one.

An Orange Blush that’s Happy to See You

Wet ‘n’ Wild Rose Golden Goddess To Reflect Shimmer Palette ($4.99 for 0.40 oz.) is a mix of medium peach and orange-brown. Together, they create a coppery, orange-brown with a frosted, metallic sheen. NARS Luster is less brown, more orange. MAC Alpine Bronze is more subdued, less shimmery. MAC Glorify is browner. Estee Lauder Topaz Chameleon is browner, darker.

This will tend to be more flattering on warmer complexions and deeper skin tones. I think many will find it too orange, though it is more flattering than an orange-toned bronzer/brown blush, because this is more orange than brown, so it adds color, warmth, and glow without potentially turning ruddy.  The frosted, metallic finish did emphasize pores and imperfections in skin texture.  It is a baked product, so you could use it wet or dry, though the pigmentation was true-to-pan when used dry.  When applied wet, you’ll get an even more metallic finish.  The texture is soft, more finely-milled than a lot of baked products, but not as finely-milled as most powder blushes. Rose Golden Goddess lasted just over six hours on me, and after seven, it looked patchy. It’s on par with the majority of baked products and how long they wear on me, so if you normally get longer wear out of your baked products, this might wear similarly.

Maybe You Won’t Go to Carnaval, But How About a Glow of Rose?

Wet ‘n’ Wild Rose Champagne Glow To Reflect Shimmer Palette ($4.99 for 0.40 oz.) is a melange of light peach, peachy-orange, and medium pink. Blended together, they create a light, rosy-beige with a frosted, metallic finish. MAC Porcelain Pink is lighter. MAC Rhapsody in Two is similar. Bobbi Brown Rose Gold is a touch more beige. MAC Redhead is less pink. Laura Mercier Rose Rendezvous is a smidgen darker.

I suspect of the three shades of To Reflect that I’ve seen from Wet ‘n’ Wild (I’ll post a review for the third one soon), this is likely the one that will have the most universal appeal.  On darker complexions, it will serve as a highlighter, and on the very lightest skin tones, it can work as a blush as well as a highlighter.  I’m medium in color, and it shows up as a highlighter and slight tint of color–there’s definite color, not just shimmer/sheen–on my skin.  The finish has a high-shine, frosted look to it, which did result in emphasis of my pores along my cheeks, so if that’s a major concern for you, then you might want to opt for a subtler highlighter.  This can be used wet for an even more metallic finish, if desired.

It’s a baked product, though it feels almost like a hybrid between traditional powder and baked, because it is smoother than a lot of baked products but still different from regular powder products.  Rose Champagne Glow lasted for six and a half hours on me, and after seven hours, it looked a bit faded and somewhat patchy. It’s on par with the majority of baked products and how long they wear on me, so if you normally get longer wear out of your baked products, this might wear similarly.

	My biggest problem with baked products is their wear; many of the formulas on the market (at all price points) don't wear a full eight hours on me like regular powder blush, and that is true with this one, which is where it lost the most points.

A Bronzy, Baked Powder from Wet ‘n’ Wild

Wet ‘n’ Wild Carnaval in Rio To Reflect Shimmer Palette ($4.99 for 0.40 oz.) is a rich, copper-shimmered bronze. Estee Lauder Topaz Chameleon is darker, browner–less coppery. MAC Glorify is similar, slightly darker. MAC Worldly Wealth is less coppery.

It has a soft consistency, and it feels like a finely-milled baked powder, similar to MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinishes but smoother. It has a high-shine, frosted and metallic finish, so there is a great deal of reflection, but there is also a slight emphasis of pores and any natural imperfections in skin texture. Carnaval in Rio has a lot of warmth coming from the orange and copper hues in it, so it acts a bit like a bronzer or warming glow. I suspect that this is going to be particularly lovely on a deeper, warmer complexions. It lasted seven hours, which is a little longer than I get with many baked products, but a little short of the average blush/bronzer.

The first shade is a soft white with a matte finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft. Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away is shimmery. MAC Crystal Avalanche is also shimmery. Bobbi Brown White is very comparable. bareMinerals Cheers is frosted. bareMinerals Cumuls is starker. Inglot #373 is whiter.

The second shade is a darkened seafoam green with a matte finish. This shade had decent color payoff, but it is so soft that it has a tendency to blend away a bit. When patted on, it delivers a lot more payoff and has a less faded appearance (see photos below). Inglot #345 is lighter. Make Up For Ever #53 is much darker. Sugarpill Mochi is bluer. MAC Aqua is lighter.

The third shade is a light-medium sky blue with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, and it was soft and smooth without being powdery. Cinderella Royal is darker. Milani Olympian Blue is also darker, brighter. Maybelline Tenacious Teal is a bit darker and shimmery (and a cream). MAC Blue Candy is a touch brighter. Make Up For Ever #118 is a little lighter and brighter.

The fourth shade is a medium-dark purple with subtle red undertones. This shade had decent to good color payoff, but it was very powdery. This shade was the most powdery of the eight. MAC Plush is darker and shimmery. Milani Primary is shimmery. MAC Shock-a-holic is redder. Inglot #379 is bluer-toned.

The fifth shade is a soft, creamy beige with a matte finish. One of the best shades in the palette, this had a lovely soft, smooth texture that wasn’t powdery with excellent color payoff. Urban Decay Anonymous is similar. theBalm Adagio is very close. MAC Brule is comparable. MAC Vanilla is warmer, lighter.

The sixth shade is a faded orange with a matte finish. It had decent pigmentation, and it was the driest of the eight–surprisingly dry to the point where it was a bit stiff (which was why the color payoff wasn’t great). NARS Self Portrait 3 is darker, richer. NARS Ramatuelle is a bit more orange.

The seventh shade is a medium-dark brown with subtle red undertones and a matte finish. This shade was very sheer and a bit stiff to work with. It was the worst performing out of the eight. theBalm Presto is similar. NARS Surabaya is more orange-toned. Bobbi Brown Cocoa Berry is more burgundy. MAC Embark is darker.

The eighth shade is a dark black with a matte finish. The texture of this one was slightly dry, which resulted in just so-so color payoff. Wet ‘n’ Wild Shimmer the Night Away is comparable. MAC Carbon is also similar.

Overall, this is palette is a mixed bag, as some of the shades were powdery and two were a bit dry/stiff (and those two were also significantly sheerer than the rest). None of the shades were so powdery that they would blend away to nothing or faded away quickly, but I recommend patting, not sweeping, them on. A little over half of the matte shades in this palette are of the softer variety, so they deposited pigment well, blended easily, but did have some fall out during application. The drier mattes have less fall out but were harder to blend and pick up pigment from.

When I wore the eyeshadows from this palette, they lasted fairly well over eight hours, but there was some fading along the edges that became noticeable after seven hours (without a primer).  Over a primer, the fading deferred for an hour–only looking a bit faded with the green and purple shades after eight hours.
