shu uemura Says Goodbye to U.S.!

It’s sad to see such a major brand say goodbye to us beauty addicts in the U.S., but shu uemura will be discontinuing its operations in the U.S., though there has been no set exit date in place yet.   According to the information released in Tuesday’s issue of WWD, you should still be able to purchase your favorite shu products through their website.

L’Oreal announced on Monday that they would be closing shu uemura’s operations in the U.S.  The brand is currently available in eighteen countries, and operations are only closing in the U.S.  According to WWD, shu does about 80% of its business in Asia, so it’s not a total surprise to see them exit the U.S.  WWD also states that, “For the future, American consumers will be able to purchase the products online at shuuemura.com.” WWD

Cream/Gel Eyeliner Breakdown

Cream/gel eyeliners are usually thick creams (the consistency of a cream, but the thickness of more like a paste… or a lipstick, for a better beauty reference!). They usually require a brush to apply it, and most use these on the upper lash line (they can be irritating on the lower lash line, particularly for those with more sensitive eyes). They’re a very, very popular item with numerous brands having their own take on the cream/gel eyeliner product type.

At the end of the day, they’re all quality cream/gel eyeliners and none are not worth paying for. As with many cosmetic products, some will work better on others–we’re not all going to fall in love with the same formula–but I do think these are all good picks. Personally, I tend to choose by the color/shade rather than the brand! If I had to give you a top three (in alphabetical order), they would be: Bobbi Brown, MAC, and shu uemura.

Here’s a comparison across eight different brands and their cream/gel eyeliners… Continue reading →

shu uemura’s Primitribe Collection is a good mix of neutrals and color. I absolutely adored the Painting Liner, which was creamy, incredibly pigmented, and easy to work with. The Primal Color Sticks were interesting, but without testing them at-home, I can’t tell you if they actually last at all. Unfortunately, the U.S. launch of Primitribe doesn’t include everything — we won’t be seeing Spinel, the pink painting liner as far as I can tell.

Primitribe Color Stick

  • Rich Earth is a warm-toned, chocolate brown with golden shimmer.
  • Night Maroon is a satiny burgundy-wine with more of a creamy finish than a shimmer finish.
  • Blazed Gold is a warm-toned, yellow gold with lighter gold shimmer.
  • Misty Grove is an olive green with a creamy texture and light shimmer.

Primitribe Mix Blush

  • Echo is a blush duo of a pink-toned brown and a dark gold with gold shimmer.
  • Rhythm contains a large section of rosy pink and a smaller section of muted, warmed-up light medium brown with gold shimmer.
  • Soul is a combination of a satin-y medium-toned orange and a warm, medium dark chocolate brown with pale gold shimmer.

Painting Liner

  • Turquoise is a bright pop of creamy, blue-based turquoise with silver micro glitter.
  • Citrine is an insanely bright, creamy yellow with a slight sheen.

Rouge Unlimited

  • BG 942 is a creamy, mostly opaque peachy-orange.
  • WN 296 is a dark, vampy burgundy-red with a glossy finish.

Nail Enamel

  • P 980 is a pale, pastel peachy-cream with a frosty finish.
  • WN 296 is a bright, fuchsia-red with pink pearl.
