Olive Green Eyeliners: Your Guide

You might think that the color I have the most shades for is olive green, but you would be wrong, even though there are quite a few! The nice thing here is that we have more than a few dupes/similarities. I like that, because then you can select based on what formula works best for you and still get the shade you want.

1. MAC Black Karat is a brownish-black with an olive-brown tone and gold shimmer. (LE)
2. MAC Black Line is a black with brown undertones and an olive green shimmer. (LE)
3. MAC Buried Treasure is a cool-toned brown with olive green shimmer. It is a little darker than MAC Uniform.
4. MAC Rosemary & Thyme is a light-medium olive green with green shimmer. It is similar to MUFE #5L (darker) and shu uemura ME Khaki 09 (less sparkle).
5. MAC Uniform is a cool-toned brown with olive gold shimmer. It is slightly lighter than MAC Buried Treasure.
6. Make Up For Ever #5L is an olive green with a soft sheen. It is a touch darker than MAC Rosemary & Thyme and shu uemura ME Khaki 09.
7. Stila Moray is a darkened olive green with an olive brown shimmer/sheen. It is a bit greener compared to UD Stash but not as green as bareMinerals 10AM.
8. shu uemura ME Khaki 09 is a warm olive green with brown undertones. It is a touch darker than MAC Rosemary & Thyme but lighter than MUFE #5L.
9. Urban Decay Stash is a darkened olive green with a subtle sheen. It is browner than Stila Moray and bareMinerals 10AM.
10. bareMinerals 10AM is an olive green with strong green pigmentation compared to the other shades here. It is greener than Stila Moray, UD Stash, and TT Sparkling Ammunition.
11. Tarina Tarantino Sparkling Ammunition is a darkened olive green with subtle shimmer. It is a bit lighter than Stila Moray but greener than UD Stash and browner than bareMinerals 10AM.
12. Chanel Khaki Dore is a warm-toned, olive brown with gold sheen.
13. Shiseido Black Sand is a green-tinged black with gold shimmer.
14. Bobbi Brown Hunter is a green-tinged black–against all these other eyeliners, it is so, so dark.
15. Dolce & Gabbana Stromboli is a deep black with olive shimmer.

Pale, Shimmering Beige Offers a Warm Glow

Shiseido Cafe Creme (BE 201) Luminizing Lipgloss ($22.00 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is a warm, peachy beige with pale champagne and gold micro-shimmer. MAC Lightly Prancing has a similar composition but the gold shimmer is larger. MAC Viva Glam V is also similar, slightly warmer. MAC Devilishly Stylish has white shimmer.

The Luminizing Lipgloss formula is supposed to be “intense, pure moisture” – really hydrating, in other words, with a non-sticky texture and “long-lasting color and natural luminosity.” I’ve been meaning to check out other shades in this formula, because Shiseido owns Cle de Peau, which makes one of my favorite glosses of all time (#2, for those curious) and the packaging and descriptions are similar for both glosses. So, on a whim, I added this to my Nordstrom order.

There’s a slight milkiness to the color that gives it more color coverage than anticipated–you can see how faded my lip freckle looks, despite the gloss having transparency. It adds mostly warmth and gold shimmer and ultimately evens out my lip color.  The formula is non-sticky, not too thick or too thin, comfortable to wear, but most importantly, hydrating.  It’s definitely one of the most moisturizing gloss formulas on the market from what I have tried.  This shade lasted just over three hours on my lips, which is a bit shy for average on gloss for me though on par with similar shades (light shades like these always seem to wear away faster).

Top 10 of 2012: Lipsticks

There were actually a lot of fantastic lipsticks released this year! I already pulled up twenty that to consider for the top ten, and I had only reached August (I go backwards). There were 52 pages of lip product reviews to sift through (that’s 312 posts!), and these were the ones that made the cut:

Shiseido Sweet Pea RD 304 Perfect Rouge Lipstick

Shiseido Sweet Pea RD 304 Perfect Rouge Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a strawberry red with warm undertones and a white shimmer. There’s a natural sheen to the finish. NARS Flamenco is very similar but less warm-toned. Guerlain Rouge Sensuel is a bit warmer. Milani Bing Cherry is slightly brighter and doesn’t have shimmer. Guerlain Grenade is very similar.

This formula is extremely hydrating with an almost gel-like consistency that glides right on.  It’s lightweight, comfortable to wear, and has no discernible taste or scent.  Sweet Pea wears a solid five and a half hours, and the color applies opaquely with little product needed.  I’m always impressed by Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge formula; it’s a really moisturizing formula that feels so good to wear and wears well.  I also love that there’s 0.14 oz. of product, while many lipsticks are 0.10 to 0.12 oz. in size.

	I don't hear a lot of love for Shiseido's Perfect Rouge formula, but it's always a joy to wear one. It's comfortable, doesn't bleed or feather, and wears well. I see Sweet Pea working well on a variety of skin tones, and it's a lovely, softened red for the summer.

Shiseido Fuchsia RS 320 Perfect Rouge Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a magenta fuchsia with a creamy finish and a natural sheen. The way this shade differs from your more typical fuchsia is that there’s magenta mixed in, so it has more blue in it, enough that it starts looking a little purple-like. It’s still more pink than it is purple, which is kind of how I think of magenta! MAC Zen Rose is a bit darker and pinker. MAC Candy Yum Yum is pinker and more vibrant. MAC Pink Pigeon is pinker and a little more vibrant. MAC Love Forever is a touch lighter. NYX Pink Lyric is pinker. NARS Schiap is more fuchsia, less magenta. MAC Petals & Peacocks is a touch lighter. MAC Gladiola is also a bit lighter.

I don’t hear a lot of love for Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge formula, but it’s always a joy to wear one. It’s unscented, and there is no discernible taste. The formula keeps lips feeling soft and moisturized while you wear it, and the hydration extends for a few more hours after most of it has worn away. When I tested this particular shade for wear, it was there for the long haul–six and a half hours. The consistency is soft, creamy, and glides on easily and evenly while delivering opaque color coverage in nearly one stroke. It has some slip, but it doesn’t feel heavy, so it doesn’t bunch up on itself or slide around. As a nice bonus, it’s one of the larger-sized lipsticks on the market (most are 0.10 oz. or 0.12 oz., with the occasional formula at 0.14 oz.).
