Disney Jasmine The Palace Jewel Compact Mirror
Disney Jasmine The Palace Jewel Compact Mirror

Disney Jasmine The Palace Jewel Compact Mirror ($20.00) is just as well-done as the Cinderella compact mirror.  The moment you slip it out of its packaging, you can feel the heft and real weight of it, because it’s made out of metal.  It’s not flimsy, thin, or lightweight at all.  It’s cleverly designed, suits the theme of the collection, and functions well. It opens up and has a mirror on each side, and one mirror also has, “Shut your eyes and take a chance,” written on it.

I’ve kept my Cinderella mirror in my purse since I bought it, and I’ve had no trouble with it popping open on its own, nor have I felt like the hinge has weakened over time, and mine seems to be in the same condition as it was when I bought it.  I also appreciate that Sephora applies a clear plastic covering over the back of the compact to minimize scratches prior to its arrival.

It’s currently out of stock online, and being limited edition, I’m not sure if and when Sephora will restock it.  I haven’t received an official press release, and the collection’s currently available to beauty insiders online–so I haven’t heard whether this is truly an online exclusive or if it’s just an online exclusive at the moment.

Sephora Curacao Punch (13) Eyeshadow
Sephora Curacao Punch (13) Eyeshadow

Sephora Curacao Punch (13) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “bright aquamarine with silver glitter.” It’s a bright, medium blue with a hint of teal and silver glitter. The underlying color has a metallic finish. NARS South pacific #1 is a touch muted in comparison and has no glitter. Urban Decay Electric is bluer and matte. Make Up For Ever #83 is very similar but has no glitter.

The color payoff was just so-so when applied dry, but it was incredibly pigmented and intense when applied using a dampened brush. The glitter also adhered better initially when the product was applied to the lid with a wet brush, because when it is used dry, there is a ton of glitter fall out during the application process. Unsurprisingly, the big downfall to Curacao Punch was the glitter fall out during wear–which was lots and lots–and was noticeable after five hours or so of wear. The actual blue color lasted eight and a half hours well, and it looked a bit faded after a full ten. I noticed some very slight staining when I wore this shade without primer. It feels soft, despite the heavy glitter content, and smoothes out nicely on the skin.

If you already have a great adhesive for glitter eyeshadows, Curacao Punch is still worth considering; it has great brightness and plenty of sparkle. If you loathe fall out, though, stay away!

Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow
Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow

Sephora Green Tea Time (12) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “shimmering light teal.” It’s a bright green-teal with a soft, frosted finish. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #4 is bluer, darker. MAC Fashion Circuit is darker. Maybelline Edgy Emerald is similar. NYX Seafoam Green is a bit darker. MAC Partylicious is a touch darker and brighter.

It had decent pigmentation applied dry, but it was more intensified and closer to full color coverage when applied wet. I had an odd problem with this shade: it applied in a very crumbly, uneven fashion. I would apply it–even damp!–and it would just… ball up on itself in a way. It looked patchy, a little faded, and it took a lot of packing on of the color to get mostly even color. It was an unusual experience, and it’s definitely not something I experience often with powder eyeshadows.  The texture, in the pan, felt soft, smooth, and dense, but it just didn’t apply that way.  When I wore it, there was some signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear (no primer).

It seemed like it was going to be a fairly good product overall, but something about the way this binds together makes it very hard to work with.

Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow
Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow

Sephora Break the Bank (11) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as an “emerald green with silver glitter.” It’s a darkened, aqua green with silver and aqua glitter and metallic finish. Tom Ford Emerald Lust is darker, less green. Giorgio Armani Ecailles Black Pearl is bluer. Becca Luella is a touch darker.

This shade applied better with a dampened brush, because the color was weak dry, and there was a ton of glitter fall out if the eyeshadow was patted on dry. Unfortunately, while applying it damp helped to improve color payoff and minimize fall out, it did not apply evenly or smoothly; it looked patchy and faded from the get-go. With this particular shade, I think the only way to really get the color to come through is by layering it over a green/teal (or white) colored base.

It's much too fussy at this price point--it needs a colored, tacky base, and at best, it works better but not superbly.

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow
Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow

Sephora Rolling in the Grass (10) Eyeshadow ($13.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “mirror dark green.” It’s a subtly warmed-up forest green with a soft, golden olive undertone and a green-gold shimmer with a frosted, metallic finish. L’Oreal Golden Emerald is lighter, warmer. Inglot #414 is cooler-toned, tealer. Inglot #418 is greener. Make Up For Ever #310 is less metallic.

When applied dry, it had rather disappointing color payoff; it appeared dry and a bit uneven, and overall, semi-sheer. When applied with a damp brush, it took on a much more intense color; it applied more evenly, smoothly, and was mostly opaque. Sephora’s Mirror finish is interesting, because it has the sparkling quality of a glitter eyeshadow matched with the reflective quality of a metallic finish but without the fall out problems.  While it didn’t wear the full ten hours Sephora claimed, it did hold up well; there was only some very minor fading along the edges.
