Blue-Teal Eyeliners: Your Guide
I am a fiend for teal eyeliner–there is absolutely no doubt about that–and here are fifteen shades that seemed like blue-based teals (a few turned out to be a little green-based).
Make Up For Ever #12L is a darkened blue with a hint of teal. It is more shimmery than Tom Ford Exotic Teal.
Milani Aqua is a brightened teal with a hint of blue and frosted finish.
Urban Decay Flipside is a lightened blue-teal with a shimmery finish. It is lighter than Milani Aqua.
Estee Lauder Dramatic Teal is a dark, blue-based teal with a matte finish. It is a touch bluer than Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (LE)
Estee Lauder Electric Teal is a teal with blue undertones and a matte finish. It is greener compared to Estee Lauder Dramatic Teal and lighter than Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (LE)
bareMinerals 1PM is a deep, dark blue-based teal. It is darker than Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (LE)
Urban Decay Mainline is a blue-based teal with stronger blue undertones and a matte finish. It is bluer than Estee Lauder Dramatic Teal. (LE)
Prescriptives Blue Grotto is a teal with bluish-green tones. It is darker than Estee Lauder Electric Teal and Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (DC)
Make Up For Ever #4K is a green-tinged teal. It is slightly greener than Prescriptives Blue Grotto.
Behind-the-Series: It was my intention to provide heavy, opaque swatches to provide an accurate color comparison. Some eyeliners required one pass, some required five, and a few even more. When possible, the shade name (above) is linked to the original review so you can read more about the quality, wear, etc. of a particular eyeliner. If we’ve never done a review, there will be no link. Shades that were limited edition will be marked with “(LE)” and shades that were discontinued will be marked with “(DC)” after the color description. You can also find all comparisons on The Dupe List.

NYX Dark Glitter (NPS 217) Nail Lacquer ($4.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as “black with red flecks.” It looks like a black jelly with large, hexagon-shaped red glitter and smaller bits of red glitter. The finish is interesting, because it has the squishy look of a jelly, but it’s such a dark color that it almost doesn’t seem right! The one dupe that I know of is Deborah Lippmann’s Ruby Red Slippers–there are really barely-there differences that you’ll likely only find in amount/composition under intense scrutiny.
After two coats, it’s mostly opaque, but there’s that signature translucency you find with jelly polishes. The polish has a slightly thicker consistency–true to jelly finishes, however–and is nicely packed with glitter, as there is no shortage of it getting on the nail. It did seem just a touch streaky/uneven in a couple of places, but it was hard to really see/tell from more than a few inches away. I really like NYX’s Salon formula, because it applies and wears rather well. I get a good week of wear with just minor tip wear but no chipping.

NYX Pink Lyric Round Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a brightened magenta pink with cool, blue undertones. The finish is creamy with very minor settling into lip lines and opaque color coverage. MAC Pink Pigeon is a touch darker and brighter. MAC Love Forever is a touch darker and less pink (more purple). NARS Schiap is darker, pinker. Milani Rose Hip is pinker, brighter. MAC Florida looks similar.
This one has a lot of creaminess, but it doesn’t slip around as much as Stella or Haute Melon. The consistency allows for really smooth application with excellent color payoff. Pink Lyric applies smoothly, though, and it doesn’t slide around and slip over itself. When I trialed the wear of this shade, I was able to get four hours out of it, which is average for lipstick for me. I really liked the natural sheen of the finish, because it gave lips a more luminous look.
If you've been on the hunt for a bright, blue-based pink that won't break the bank, NYX Pink Lyric is a great option. There's a balance between brightness and level of color--it's not fully neon, but it'll still be the star of any look.

There are so many fantastic reds available on the market these days, but I managed to narrow it down to this list of five that I think would make an incredible ruby red pout for Valentine’s Day.
NYX Too Chic — subtly blue-based red with a semi-matte finish
