“Someone said that my collection was really girly,” said designer Giovanna Randall. “So I decided to go all the way and make it ultra feminine, but also with something slightly ‘off.’ I had a vision of creating an army of angry dolls that had been played with too much, not precious dolls that sit on a shelf.”
“The look is reminiscent of Penelope Tree, and Catherine Deneuve,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “The eyelashes are messy and drawn on, with a lot of mascara. Everything else is perfect – the skin is porcelain, and the lip color is like lips that have been bitten. The key to the look is really the lashes. When you think you’ve got enough mascara, add two more coats.”

“It’s the ideal of the iconic American cowboy gone multi-cultural. The color story came from India, inspired by the spice market — but with a cowboy flair,” said designer Thakoon Panichgul. “Because the collection is so colorful, I wanted to focus on a classic, strong brow. I kept the face natural, with a little pink on the cheek for healthy color. On the eyes, I focused on contouring to show strength and attitude, a cowboy attitude that is,” said makeup artist Diane Kendal for NARS Cosmetics.

“This collection is a graduation, of sorts, for me. I was inspired by these rocks and crystals that I’ve loved since I was a child – the texture, the metallics,” said designer Mandy Coon. “There is something so cool, and tough, about them but then the pleats in the collection add a touch of femininity.”

NARS Night Flight Nail Lacquer($17.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “black with cobalt blue pearls.” It’s a new and limited edition shade from the Night Series. The coverage is fantastic–I used two coats, but it was 80% opaque with one coat. The formula is that perfect blend of thick and thin that allows for even flow across the nail bed without causing drag or patchiness. It’s a blackened-navy blue base with silver and navy blue shimmer. It is similar to MAC Biker Blue, though NARS’ formula is better (more opaque) and has a more muted appearance.
If you like a shiny finish to your polishes, you’ll definitely want to use a top coat here, because these dry to a remarkably low-shine finish. NARS’ polishes wear well on me, and I have no issues with chipping over a week–just minor tip wear, which is expected given I type all day (and I have absolutely no regard for my nails; I’ll happily pry something open with them).
