NARS The Multiple Duo Maldives/ Riviera ($45.00) is part of the new Multiple Duos NARS recently launched. The palette is actually pretty large–much larger than the eyeshadows, eyeshadow duos, or blushes. I see the Multiple Duos as one way to reach a larger audience, because you get two for $45 rather than one for $37. Admittedly, the Multiple itself has plenty of product to stretch out your dollar–it isn’t like you’ll run out in a week.
Maldives is described as “pink champagne with shimmer,” and the description is right on. Same with the description of Riviera as a “sheer pink.” Both of these shades are available in Multiple form, so if you love one but not the other, you don’t have to pick them up as a duo. Both colors are fairly sheer, and on my skin tone (NC30), I really couldn’t get much color to show. Riviera showed up better than Maldives, but it required a lot of building to get there.
Unlike the original Multiple, which comes in a stick form, you pretty much have to use a brush with these (the drawback is it may be harder to transfer color onto the skin and you may waste more product that gets caught in the bristles). I know some will say to use your fingers, which is fine, but I just prefer not to use my fingers to apply makeup. It kind of grosses me out, especially the idea of my finger oils getting all into the compact. Perhaps a sponge would be better, but I’ve always found sponges to be so wasteful. Sigh!
What struck me the most was that the duo format didn’t feel as creamy as the original version. I think that factor contributed to why I found it difficult to get enough pigmentation for these colors to show up on me. I tried several brushes (187, 188, 190) with all mixed results. Next time I’m at Nordstrom’s or Sephora, I definitely want to see how both these shades compare when in Multiple form, just to see if the formulations really are different–especially in pigmentation. I do wonder if it’s like some other creamy products where the surface is firm, but once you’ve used it a few times, the product softens.
I also want to check out Maui/Palm Beach and Orgasm/South Beach duos, too. I think those may be better for my skin tone!
Have you tried the new Multiple Duos? What do you think? Which ones have you tried?

Jolie Poupee eyeshadow duo / [unknown] / All Night Long / [unknown] / Caneille
When I was visiting the MAC counter last Thursday, I noticed NARS’ holiday launch was out. I swatched everything on the displayer, but curiously enough… there were more products on the displayer than listed in the details I’ve read as well as NARS’ website. This is why two shades are listed as “unknown” in the above photo.
I’m going to have to wait until I receive my products to give this launch a full review, because some of the shadows (namely Silent Night) did not swatch well at all, but it may have been due to people’s oily fingers mucking up the tester. (Boo!) But I can say that Jolie Poupee duo is gorgeous and richly pigmented! Super Orgasm is quite lovely, and I hope it will work for me! The lipgloss and lipstick were pretty, but they didn’t really connect with me. The multiples always tempt me, but the price tag tends to keep me from taking them home. It’s just a product I know I’d use once or twice and never again! Anyone got some Multiples they want to sell me on the cheap?

NARS HOLIDAY COLLECTION 2008
Going into the holiday season, François Nars imagines a look marked by deep purple-infused hues to match the autumnal mood, offset with hints of sparkle to answer the call for festive touches. Bold, regal purple eyes pair with a berry-stained glossy pout. Metallic tones of silver and gold gild the eyes, tempered by a sheer yet statement-making lip. With such rich attention-demanding colors adorning the eyes and lips, cheeks and nails need nothing but a hint of peachy-pink made even more flattering with a whisper of pure gold.
So, I’m pretty sure I have to have Silent Night eyeshadow. Like I will die without it.

NARS Cosmetics was backstage at Chris Benz creating the beauty look for their Spring/Summer 2009 Collection. Below is information on the makeup look and attached is an image and face chart for reference. Please let me know if you have any questions or need products to photograph.
LEAD ARTIST: Ayako, NARS International Makeup Director
A young teenager from the 70′s, very fresh and innocent with a rebellious side. The concept was a modern take on the 18th Century turning point when clothes were becoming more wearable. “I call this look the Innocent Revolutionary,” said Ayako, who was inspired by the bright hues of the collection. “I wanted to use a vivid color palette that would complement the collection and give the girls a fresh, innocent look with an edge.”
LOOK: Concentrating on monochromatic shades, Ayako used beige, yellow, and orange to create a fresh, innocent face. Soft, dewy skin and sparkled cheeks, combined with a brilliant yellow gold eyelid, brought a youthful brightness to the look. Ayako explained, “I did not use mascara because I wanted to create a bare, innocent eye”. A nude-peach gloss finish on the lips rounded out the fresh look.

NARS Hydrating Moisture Cream ($72.00 for 3.4 fl. oz.) is my night cream of choice. I consider this my current staple, and I’ve actually be ignoring a lot of my other favorite night creams in lieu of this fabulous one. I also credit my lessened acne and breakouts to using this deliciously rich and quickly hydrating cream. I didn’t change anything in my skincare routine except for using this as my PM cream, and whoa nice skin! Although, I admit, I’ve been cheating on Hydrating Moisture Cream with an equally amazing NARSskin product–Aqual-Gel Hydrator–but more on that three-way relationship later on this week.
Okay, what else makes this so great? Continue reading →
