5 Gorgeous Copper Lipsticks to Try for Fall

I touched on some of my favorite copper eyeshadows last month, but coppery lip colors are becoming more and more prevalent with each passing season (much to my surprise!), so here are a few that I really like:

  1. NYX Wrath — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.
  2. Kat Von D Thin Lizzy — A Warm Copper with a Frost finish.
  3. Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) — A Warm Copper with a Satin finish.
  4. Milani Bronze Beauty — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.
  5. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Authentic — A Warm Copper with a Metallic finish.

The side-by-side link isn’t quite working, which we’ll fix probably on Monday (it’s a little minor for a weekend emergency, I try not to be a crazy boss, haha!), so please use THIS LINK to view side-by-side swatches 🙂

Milani Embrace & Flirt Amore Matte Lip Cremes

Milani Embrace Amore Matte Lip Creme
Milani Embrace Amore Matte Lip Creme

Milani Embrace Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep reddish plum.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark berry with strong, cool pink undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that went on fairly evenly, but there was some slight “streaking” where the color appeared lighter/darker in areas. The formula was thin and easily spread across the lips, but it was also easily spread past the natural lip line with the amount pulled on the applicator so be careful or wipe off excess prior to using. The color lasted for eight hours with minimal fading and was just a tad drying after six hours of wear. Tom Ford Beauty Velvet Violet (16) (P, $50.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Acai (LE, $17.00) is darker, brighter, glossier (90% similar). Tarte Twerk (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Colour Pop Plastics (LE, $5.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (85% similar). Kat Von D Bauhau5 (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Too Faced Bend and Snap! (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Colour Pop Bad Habit (LE, $6.00) is more muted, warmer, glossier (85% similar). MAC Oh Lady (P, $20.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (85% similar). Maybelline Berry Bossy (P, $7.49) is darker, glossier (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Flirt Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep vampy wine.” It’s a deepened–but a bit muted–burgundy with cool undertones and a matte finish. This one took forever to dry, even longer than the other shades, at ten minutes. It applied unevenly and only had semi-opaque pigmentation. While the color lasted for eight hours, it just didn’t look that good on as a result of the unevenness. I found it to be a little drying after six hours of wear. Colour Pop More Better (P, $6.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Fixed on Drama (LE, $17.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). MAC Talk That Talk (LE, $17.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Tarte Hangry (P, $20.00) is cooler (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry (P, $32.00) is cooler, glossier (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $50.00) is darker, less pigmented, warmer (85% similar). MAC Sin (P, $17.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (90% similar). Chanel Rouge Vie (58) (P, $36.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). Tarte Wet Suit (P, $22.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA SUMMARY | Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is a new, limited edition liquid lipstick that dries to a matte finish. You’ll mostly find them at your local drugstore (I got mine from Walgreens), but they are available online as well through Milani directly. These have a very thin, liquid-y consistency–they easily get outside the lines and in general, the applicator can apply far more than you need, so I highly recommend a little patience and maybe using a lip brush (if you can) to apply and get really precise, neat lines. The formula has a longer dry down–about five to ten minutes before you can press your lips together–and gets very tacky after two minutes or so (do NOT! press your lips together or else you will lift color in large patches!). They’re one of the lesser drying liquid lipsticks I’ve come across (but these did get a bit drying after four to six hours of continuous wear), and they are long-wearing and pigmented. They have a moderately strong sweet, vanilla scent.

Milani Desire & Romance Amore Matte Lip Cremes

Milani Desire Amore Matte Lip Creme
Milani Desire Amore Matte Lip Creme

Milani Desire Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright red.” It’s a brightened, medium red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a smooth, matte finish. It was intensely pigmented and applied with even coverage, though the more liquid-y consistency does make it a little harder to maneuver around the edges. As always, I recommend trying to remove excess product from the applicator or using a lip brush to make it easier to apply. It wore well for eight hours with minimal fading and was a little drying after seven hours. Colour Pop Succulent (P, $6.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Urban Decay 714 (LE, $18.00) is glossier (95% similar). NARS Mysterious Red (P, $25.00) is glossier (95% similar). Kat Von D Tijuana (P, $21.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop Weekender (LE, $5.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Lady Balls (P, $21.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Hourglass Raven (P, $28.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Kat Von D Underage Red (P, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Jungle Red (P, $28.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Illamasqua Maneater (P, $24.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay 714 (P, $17.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Maybelline Siren in Scarlet (P, $7.99) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Fashion Legacy (P, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Rebel Heart (P, $22.00) is glossier (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Romance Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep red.” It’s a medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation but a translucency to it–you could see my lip freckle coming through–but doesn’t look streaky, which was a surprise. It had a softer look to it than some liquid matte lipsticks do as a result. It wore for six and a half hours and left a stain behind, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Candy Cane (LE, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Colour Pop Creeper (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Dragon Girl (P, $25.00) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Swamp Family (LE, $20.00) is glossier (95% similar). MAC So Good For You (LE, $17.00) is darker, glossier (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red (P, $32.00) is glossier (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Carina's Love (P, $32.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Make Up For Ever Red Ink (LE) is warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Lady Balls (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Charlotte (LE, $17.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Chateau M (LE, $20.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Sephora Always Red (LE, $14.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $17.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Tarte Bae (P, $20.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M401 (P, $22.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Urban Decay Iracebeth (LE, $18.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (85% similar). Kat Von D Hexagram (P, $21.00) is warmer (90% similar). Smashbox Unzipped (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (85% similar). MAC Dance With Me (P, $20.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M402 (P, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Adore & Lust Amore Matte Lip Cremes

Milani Adore Amore Matte Lip Creme
Milani Adore Amore Matte Lip Creme

Milani Adore Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “pink nude.” It’s a brightened, light-medium peach with a hint of pink and a flat, matte finish. It had had mostly opaque color coverage, but the texture dried down very, very dry and “cracked” as soon as I smiled or moved my lips, which made it a more uncomfortable shade to wear. This was my least favorite to wear, as it felt noticeably drying after three hours of wear and only lasted for six hours before flaking and fading unevenly. Tarte Namaste (P, $20.00) is darker, glossier (95% similar). Kat Von D Noble (P, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). Anastasia Pure Hollywood (P, $20.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop She Bad (P, $5.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced When In Doubt (P, $22.00) is cooler (90% similar). Colour Pop Knotty (LE, $6.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Sephora Peach Tart (LE, $14.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Sorry Not Sorry (P, $22.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Dior Tender Matte (340) (LE, $35.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Lady Be Good (P, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Platform (DC, $6.00) is warmer (85% similar). MAC Kinda Sexy (P, $17.00) is darker (80% similar). Too Faced Child Star (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). MAC Riot House (LE, $17.00) is lighter, glossier (80% similar). Melt Cosmetics Summer! (P, $19.00) is brighter, warmer, glossier (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Lust Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “cool rose.” It’s a lightly brightened, medium pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly while drying down to a soft but not emphasizing matte finish. The formula is consistent with the range: thinner and more water-like, so take care with application to avoid messy edges or over-applying. It wore well for seven hours and felt a bit drying at the five-hour mark. Colour Pop Solow (P, $6.00) is lighter (95% similar). Kat Von D Magick (P, $21.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). MAC Mehr (P, $17.00) is glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop Cami (LE, $5.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Nouvelle Vogue (LE, $17.00) is cooler, glossier (85% similar). Colour Pop Cami (P, $5.00) is cooler (85% similar). Urban Decay Criminal (P, $17.00) is lighter, cooler, glossier (85% similar). Colour Pop 1st Base (P, $6.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). Tarte Bestie (LE, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Beloved Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “brown rose.” It’s a muted, medium-dark plummy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque color payoff with a thin, highly spreadable consistency, which gave really smooth and even coverage, but it does make it a little harder to apply if you don’t wipe the applicator a bit prior to application (think of it like mascara). It wore well for eight hours and was a touch drying after six hours of wear. MAC Bad Girl RiRi (LE, $17.00) is glossier (90% similar). Colour Pop Bumble (P, $6.00) is cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Milani Crush Amore Matte Lip Creme ($8.99 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is described as a “warm brick brown.” It’s a dark red-toned brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that looked smooth once it dried down, but it was somewhat uneven–there were places that appeared darker than others, even though I didn’t see so much actual streaking. The color lasted for eight hours before having noticeable fading, and it felt a little drying after the six-hour mark. Kat Von D Plath (LE, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). Kat Von D Vampira (P, $20.00) is darker (80% similar). Colour Pop Kae (LE, $6.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Colour Pop Limbo (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Colour Pop Rooch (LE, $6.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Colour Pop Lax (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
