Top 10 of 2013: Best Drugstore/Budget Eyeshadows and Eyeliners

I have a whole slew of fun top tens to share with you over the next few days!  You may even see some of these pop up again in a few other top tens.  I wanted to put a spotlight on some of the best affordable and budget-friendly products that I enjoyed and reviewed over the past year.  I hope you’ll take a moment to share your own favorites that you discovered this year.

What were your favorite budget-friendly eyeshadows and eyeliners this year?

5 Metallic Silvers for the Holidays

If gold isn’t quite your style when it comes to the holidays, how about silver? I personally love wearing silver as an eyeliner or as an eyeshadow base for a smoky eye.

  1. Lit Tinsel Town — a glittering, holographic silver perfect for adding sparkle and dazzle to any look
  2. Maybelline Silver Strike — a bright, metallic silver that’s easy to use as an eyeliner or as a cream eyeshadow
  3. Urban Decay Cuff — a bright, silver eyeliner with a soft metallic sheen
  4. NYX Ice Glitter — silver and holographic glitter top coat to add just that touch of wintry dazzle to your nails
  5. Inglot #447 — a bright, light metallic silver powder eyeshadow that opens and brightens the eye

What are your favorite silver-hued beauty products?

Maybelline Intoxicating Spice, Captivating Carnation, Petal Plush Color Elixir Lip Colors

As promised, here are the final three Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Colors ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) that I have to review!  It’s a non-sticky (it does get a little tacky after three hours of wear), creme brulee-scented (with a somewhat perfume-y taste at times), and hydrating formula.  The color payoff, while touted as high impact, is more typically semi-opaque–noticeable but not fully opaque. You can find all of the shades I’ve reviewed here.

Maybelline Celestial Coral, Amethyst Potion, Glistening Amber Color Elixir Lip Colors

This review is featuring Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.), which is a formula I’ve been working my way through! I have three more shades for you today, and I’m hoping to wrap up testing the last three shortly. A quick overview of the formula, with more shade-related thoughts below: medium-weight feel, mostly non-tacky (starts off non-sticky, develops slight stickiness over time), and generally, not nearly as opaque as marketed. They’re typically semi-opaque with noticeable color, but they’re rarely opaque. They have a sweet, creme brulee scent but a sometimes perfume-like taste. It is a moisturizing formula overall with average wear of four hours.

Maybelline Nude Illusion, Caramel Infused, Blush Essence Color Elixir Lip Colors

Here are the last three shades of Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) range that I’ve finished testing. I have a few more shades, but they’re not even photographed yet, so not sure if those are upcoming any time soon but we’ll see how things work out. The Color Elixir formula is a medium-weight consistency that’s mostly non-tacky (but a slight tackiness develops as it wears). Some shades apply unevenly or bunch up if you press your lips together, while others look even and smooth. There is a sweet, creme brulee scent and sometimes perfume-like taste. The formula is moderately moisturizing and wears about four hours on average.

Maybelline Signature Scarlet, Mauve Mystique, Couture Color Elixir Lipglosses

Today, I have three more shades from Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) range. It’s a new and permanent formula introduced this winter, and it’s supposed to have rich color payoff with a plush feel, hydration, and high-gloss shine. Some shades are nice, others apply somewhat streakily, as the consistency is more medium to medium-thick. Sometimes, if you press your lips together, you can see a “line” appear where the color has moved and bunched up. The gloss is non-sticky when first applied, but it does develop a slight tackiness while worn–it never becomes really sticky, though. It has a sweet, creme brulee scent and a perfume-y taste. I notice the taste more with the brighter and darker shades than the lighter ones. They are moderately moisturizing.
