Maybelline Fuchsia Flash ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color
Maybelline Fuchsia Flash ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color

Maybelline Fuchsia Flash ColorSensational Vivids Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a bright, bold, and electric magenta pink with strong blue undertones and a glossy sheen. MAC Pink Pigeon is very similar in color but has more of a satin finish. Both OCC Nylon and MAC Candy Yum Yum are brighter and a touch lighter. MAC Dear Diary is a touch more magenta. MAC Show Orchid has fuchsia iridescence and is darker.

Well, if you’ve ever had one of those electric pink lipsticks catch your eye and you’ve thought to yourself, “I don’t know if I’d wear it,” and as a result, you haven’t justified buying one of the (many) higher-end versions of it, you’re in luck! Maybelline’s Fuchsia Flash is very much on-trend and is rather similar to popular neon pink favorites.  The biggest way that Fuchsia Flash differs is that it has a glossier finish from the get-go, which does, inevitably, tone down and become more satiny as the color wears (two to three hours after application).

It has a creamier, almost gel-like, consistency when applied from the tube, and it applies evenly and smoothly with mostly opaque color coverage.  The texture is a bit wet/slick, so it can create subtle lines of demarcation if you press your lips together (noticeable if you’re really looking, not noticeable from afar).  Fuchsia Flash lasted a full six hours on my lips, and it was hydrating while I wore it!  It is scented with a sweet, fruity aroma, which I didn’t find too strong or cloying but it is there.

Maybelline Vivid Rose ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor
Maybelline Vivid Rose ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor

Maybelline Vivid Rose ColorSensational Vivids Lipcolor ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a bold, medium-dark pink with rosy red undertones and a natural sheen. NARS Jardin des Plantes has a slight shimmer and is a touch brighter. Tarina Tarantino Fuchsia Lining is sheerer, so it appears more subdued. Guerlain Champs-Elysees is pinker/cooler-toned. MAC Scan-delicious is a touch pinker. MAC Gesina is close but a bit redder.

Maybelline wasn’t kidding about this being a vivid color–it’s intense, bright, and bold–and it had nice color coverage being very nearly opaque (there’s a slight shadow of my lip freckle coming through). What’s nice about the coverage, though, is that it’s rich without feeling heavy. It also applied beautifully and evenly without settling into lip lines, and while I wore it, I didn’t have trouble with the color feathering or bleeding. Vivid Rose wore for six hours well, and then a stain lingered for another hour or so. It has a sweet, fruity scent that I didn’t find overwhelming. It was neither drying nor hydrating, and the consistency was just creamy enough so it didn’t pull or tug at the lips but didn’t feel slick.

Maybelline Silver Strike Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow
Maybelline Silver Strike Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow

Maybelline Silver Strike Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a bright silver with a metallic finish. Urban Decay Oz is darker and a powder product. Buxom Chihuahua is a bit darker. L’Oreal Primped & Precious is darker.

Silver Strike applies very smoothly and evenly; it has a a really creamy consistency that enables really good spread and application of the product without having to layer it or worry about it catching on itself.  It goes on mostly opaque, but it didn’t build up to full opacity. When I tested it, the color lasted for a full twelve hours without fading or creasing (no primer).  Because this has a creamier consistency, it can also be sheered out easily, if that is your desired look.  The more opaque it is, the more metallic and reflective it becomes.

Silver Strike applied much better than Gold Rush, and part of that is due to its creamier consistency and lack of sparkle. Silver Strike is pure, metallic silver.

Maybelline Gold Rush Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow
Maybelline Gold Rush Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow

A Very Sparkling Rush of Gold

Maybelline Gold Rush Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a sparkling gold with strong yellow tones and a metallic finish. Chanel Vision has a similar texture but it is a browner gold, less yellowed. Cinderella Gus Gus is less metallic and a powder product. OCC Triptych is slightly darker, more metallic, and a powder. MAC Goldmine is also similar in color but a powder eyeshadow.

This shade sets itself a part in finish from pretty much every other Color Tattoo I’ve come across, because it has a heavy sparkle effect that changes the texture of the product as a whole. There’s a slight grittiness to the touch, and it doesn’t blend smoothly or look even on the lid. It tended to make my eyelid look a bit crepe-like and wrinkled. Because of the sparkle, it seemed to bunch up in places, no matter if I used a fingertip, sponge-tipped applicator, or brush to blend and/or apply the product. I did get some fall out during the twelve hours I wore Gold Rush for, though it did not seem to really fade or crease.

I'm not keen on the gritty, sparkly texture, because it seems to interfere with the blendability and smoothness of the formula, so it looks uneven, makes the eye have an unnatural texture, and has some problems with fall out during wear.

Maybelline Electric Blue Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow
Maybelline Electric Blue Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow

Someone Turned the Electricity Off

Maybelline Electric Blue Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a navy blue with a fine, frosted finish. When sheered out, it has a darker, truer navy blue coloring, while when layered more heavily, it appears bluer. Urban Decay Evidence is less blue. MAC Naval Blue is similar but a powder product. Chanel’s Apparition is darker and less blue.

This shade didn’t apply evenly or layer well. I think this product would work just fine as an eyeshadow base, but it’s not something that I’d use on its own as a cream eyeshadow.  I experienced some very light fading after twelve hours, which isn’t the norm for me when it comes to Color Tattoos.  It wasn’t much, but it was there.  The consistency of the product is thin, creamy, lightweight, and dries down quickly but not so quickly that you can’t blend out the color if you desire.  This is a shade that is very, very common as a powder eyeshadow, so I’d probably opt for one of the many navy blue eyeshadows on the market, as many perform incredibly well.

Maybelline Inked in Pink Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow
Maybelline Inked in Pink Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow

A Warm Pink That Works

Maybelline Inked in Pink Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a pinky-mauve with a frosted, metallic finish. When it’s sheered out, it loses some of the pinkness as it lays over my naturally warm skin tone (so on cooler complexions, it might look pinker when sheered out). MAC Sweet Acting is lighter. MAC Rose Light is a touch lighter. Urban Decay Provocateur is a bit more mauve and glittery. Urban Decay Bordello is more mauve. MAC Neo Nebula is very comparable.

I wore this alongside Barely Branded, and it lasted a full twelve hours without fading, creasing, or smudging.  It also worked well as a complement to Barely Branded and both were easy to blend into each other so it didn’t look too divided (but I didn’t want to blend too much, as I was primarily testing wear).  It applied with full color coverage without needing to layer the product on, so I would say this is quite pigmented and you’ll want to use less if you intend to sheer it out.  The consistency was creamy and lightweight, and once it dried down, it was set for the day.

A+
Inked in Pink had good color payoff, a creamy consistency, and great, long-wear. It can be worn alone or as an eyeshadow base.
