Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette

Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette
Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette

Marc Jacobs Beauty Object of Desire Face & Eye Palette ($69.00 for oz.) includes three cheek colors and six eyeshadows. They are in a gold, zippered case with a large, black tassel. As far as traveling goes, the upside is that it is rather cushioned and shouldn’t break easily, but it is thicker than most palettes. Some of the shades were decent, others were below average; it’s not a palette that seems worthy of splurging on for the holidays as a result. Those with several neutral palettes may find that this palette is rather repetitive. I did like that the cheek colors coordinated with the eye products, at least.

Tantric is a medium brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, smooth, and on the thinner side, but it wasn’t dusty or hard to blend out on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me. Estee Lauder Java Sun (LE, $65.00) is more muted, darker (95% similar). MAC Golden Rinse (LE, $35.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Matte Bronze (P, $25.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Naked on the Run Bronzer (LE) is warmer, brighter (90% similar). Tarte Provocative (LE, $28.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Sun-Kissed (P, $28.00) is darker (90% similar). bareMinerals Faux Tan Matte (LE) is cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Gingerbread (LE) is darker (85% similar). Guerlain Natural / Brunettes (03) (P, $53.00) is brighter (85% similar). Too Faced Sweet Peach Bronzer (P) is warmer, lighter, more shimmery (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Exhibitionist is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was incredibly soft and silky, but as a result, it was also more powdery and prone to sheering out on the skin. It was more buildable than I anticipated, so I think it applied well and unless you wanted intense coverage in one pass, I don’t think most would notice the sheerness in practice. It wore well for eight hours before fading. Tarte Deco (LE, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Underrated (LE) is lighter (95% similar). The Estee Edit Purr Pink (03) (P, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). Makeup Geek XOXO (P, $10.00) is more muted (95% similar). Zoeva CR020 (P) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Pinch O' Peach (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tarte Pop (LE, $28.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS New Attitude (LE, $30.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Fleur Power (P, $22.00) is warmer (90% similar). Colour Pop Early Bird (DC, $8.00) is cooler, darker (85% similar). Tarte Irreplaceable (LE, $28.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Modest Blush (LE, $27.00) is lighter (85% similar). Colour Pop Cruel Intentions (LE, $8.00) is darker (85% similar). Tarte Genius (LE, $28.00) is darker (85% similar). Too Faced Santa Baby (LE) is lighter (85% similar). NARS Make Believe (LE, $30.00) is warmer (85% similar). Chanel Vibration (270) (P, $45.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Make a Sheen is a light gold with warm undertones and a chunky, frosted shimmer. The texture was drier and looser with a real noticeable grit from the shimmer/sparkle in it. The color applied decently to the skin, but it was hard to even out and looked patchy up-close. It lasted for seven hours on me. Estee Lauder Courreges (LE, $32.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Authentic (LE, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). theBalm Solid Gold (P, $24.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Champagne (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Gypsum (LE, $21.00) is less pigmented, darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Bobbi Brown 24 Karat (P, $46.00) is darker (90% similar). Looxi Beauty Bombshell (P, $7.50) is darker (90% similar). Burberry No. 02 Nude Gold (LE, $68.00) is darker (90% similar). Becca Champagne Pop (P, $38.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Colour Pop Lunch Money (P, $8.00) is lighter (85% similar). Anastasia So Hollywood (P, $28.00) is darker, more shimmery (85% similar). Urban Decay Sin (P, $26.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Lights On is a light, yellow gold with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a really soft, silky texture that felt finely-milled and was just a touch powdery. This shade started to fade after seven and a half hours on me. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #1 (P) is less shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Sand (LE, $19.00) is darker, more shimmery (95% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Mellow Yellow (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #2 (LE, $25.00) is darker, more shimmery (95% similar). theBalm #38 (P, $6.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). Colour Pop High Tide (DC, $5.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Lancome Filigree (P, $19.00) is darker, more shimmery (95% similar). Viseart Champs-Elysees (P) is darker (95% similar). Guerlain Les Precieux #3 (LE) is lighter (90% similar). LORAC Unlocked (P, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #1 (P) is darker, more shimmery (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Last Dance #1 (P) is more shimmery (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Candlelight is a medium copper with warm, orange undertones and a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. The consistency felt soft and smooth, but it was looser and thin, which made it dustier to work with and prone to sheering out on the lid. The color wore for just over seven hours on me. Makeup Atelier Honey Brown #2 (P) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Bellini (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Disney by Sephora Cosmic (LE) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dimmer is a muted, medium-dark brown with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It was semi-opaque with a smooth, silky texture but ran thin and was better over a primer. It wore well for seven hours. Stila Warm Honey (LE, $18.00) is warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Tiki Hut (P, $6.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Downfall (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Entrelacs #2 (LE) is lighter (95% similar). Kat Von D Glasswing (P) is warmer (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Violet Hour is a muted, medium lavender with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the dustier texture made it darken on the skin, which made it harder to blend out as it would stick strongly to some areas but less to others. This shade wore well for seven hours on me. IT Cosmetics Romance (P) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). LORAC Dusty Mauve (LE, $19.00) is brighter (85% similar). Lancome Rich History (LE, $19.00) is cooler (85% similar). IT Cosmetics Enchanting (P) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Twilight is a muted, dark plum with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had a firmer consistency in the pan, which led to difficulty blending and diffusing the color on the lid as it would look patchy. It had decent, buildable coverage, and the color itself started to fade after seven hours of wear. Anastasia Aubergine (P, $12.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Rich Core (P, $20.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty About Last Night No. 19 (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). Colour Pop Stereo (LE, $5.00) is warmer, more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Phoebe (P, $29.00) is warmer, more shimmery (90% similar). Sephora Girlish Appeal (LE) is brighter (90% similar). Giorgio Armani #27 (LE, $33.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Clarins Rosewood #4 (P) is cooler (90% similar). Too Faced Chocolate Raspberry (LE, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Universal Appeal (LE, $21.00)(90% similar). Guerlain Rose Barbare #5 (P) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Remix (LE, $19.00) is warmer, brighter (90% similar). Kat Von D Love Letter (P, $16.00) is warmer, more shimmery (90% similar). Smashbox Eggplant (LE) is cooler, lighter, less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Pink Union #1 (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). MAC Circa Plum (LE, $21.00) is lighter, more shimmery (85% similar). Tarte Show Plum Love (LE) is warmer, more shimmery (85% similar). Guerlain Rose Barbare #4 (P) is cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

In the Dark is a dark black with warm, brown undertones and flecks of copper and bronze sparkle. It had good color payoff with a soft, finely-milled texture that was a little powdery but dense enough that it didn’t sheer out immediately on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me, but the sparkles did not bind with the base color, so there was some fall out over time (a lot of it didn’t even make it to the lid to begin with). MAC Beyond Gorgeous (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Cosmic Deco #4 (P) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Blackjack (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). NARS Night Clubbing (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Jardin Zen #4 (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Free Spirit No. 17 (LE) is cooler (95% similar). Anastasia Black Diamond (P, $12.00) is warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Scorpio (P, $20.00) is warmer, lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Night Whisper (LE, $16.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Tisse Riviera #4 (P) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Gilded Night #1 (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Best Blushes | Holiday 2016 Gift Guide

Best Blushes | Holiday 2016 Gift Guide

It’s that time of the year again:  holiday gift guides aplenty!  This year, I’ve broken out my gift guides into best of selections for blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, lipstick, lipgloss, palettes, and brushes.  These guides feature permanent formulas so that they can be useful anytime during the holiday season or even into next year.  For limited edition holiday products, you can check out our list of the top 50 highest-rated holiday products, which updates as I post more reviews for holiday products.  I hope you find this list of top performing blush formulas useful 🙂

Tom Ford Cheek Color

Tom Ford Cheek Color

Tom Ford Cheek Color ($60.00 for 0.28 oz.) has been a go-to blush formula for me since I first tried it many years ago. As time has passed, I have tried many more blush formulas from brands, but I still go back to this one frequently. I keep a few of my favorite shades (Love Lust, Ravish, Wicked) in my go-to drawer, where I keep products I want to wear again and again (when I’m not testing something!). The formula is soft, moderately dense, and smooth, which results in good pigmentation, a satin to pearly sheen, and easy application–plus, they wear long on me (over eight hours).

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Blush

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush

Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush ($26.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a powder blush with medium, buildable coverage and a more satin-to-luminous finish. I like how the range includes a mix of more “wearable” neutrals along with brighter pops of color, so it’s a versatile range that can work for many skin tones. Some of my favorite shades are Rapture, TMI, Fetish, and Crush.

Marc Jacobs Blacquer & Bad Behavior Le Marc Lip Crème

Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer (000) Le Marc Lip Creme
Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer (000) Le Marc Lip Creme

Marc Jacobs Beauty Blacquer (000) Le Marc Lip Creme ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep black with neutral undertones and a cream finish. It was intensely pigmented–one of the most pigmented shades in the range that I’ve tried–with a creamy, easy-to-apply texture that glided over the lips and spread the color evenly across the lips. It wore well for six and a half hours, but it was a bit drying after four hours of wear. MAC Stallion (LE, $21.00) is glossier (95% similar). Urban Decay Perversion (P, $17.00) is brighter, lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C604 (P, $22.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Naughty (P, $20.00) is cooler (95% similar). NYX Chambord (P, $6.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC In the Spirit (LE, $17.00) is cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Bad Behavior Le Marc Lip Creme ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a dark burgundy with warm, brown undertones and a satin sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly. The texture was lightly creamy, light-medium in weight, and didn’t drag or tug on the lips. The color wore well for seven hours, left a slight stain behind, and was a touch drying after four hours of wear. Maybelline Smoking Red (P, $7.49) is cooler (95% similar). Tarte Manbun (P, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Bette (P, $32.00) is glossier, lighter (90% similar). MAC Runner (LE, $17.00) is less glossy (95% similar). Estee Lauder Desirous (P, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Bowl Me Over (LE, $17.00) is more muted, lighter (90% similar). MAC Diva (P, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). Colour Pop Prim (P, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). Besame Noir Red 1930 (P, $22.00) is cooler, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

The formula claims 10-hour wear with “vivid pigment” and a “rich, velvety” texture that is “ultra-hydrating.” In general, the Le Marc Lip Creme formula is creamy and glides on easily with good pigmentation (most of the time), but I have not found the formula to be hydrating–at times, even a bit drying–and while the wear is longer than average, it is more likely between four and eight hours, depending on the shade. It also has a sweet, floral scent.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Up All Night Petites Le Marc Lip Crème Collection
Marc Jacobs Beauty Up All Night Petites Le Marc Lip Crème Collection

Marc Jacobs Beauty Up All Night Petites Le Marc Lip Crème Collection ($49.00 for 0.25 oz.) includes five miniature-sized lipsticks–all shades are available individually, should only one or two catch your eye–in the brand’s Le Marc Lip Creme formula. The formula claims 10-hour wear with “vivid pigment” and a “rich, velvety” texture that is “ultra-hydrating.” The formula is creamy and glides on easily with good pigmentation (most of the time), but I have not found the formula to be hydrating–at times, even a bit drying–and while the wear is longer than average, it is more likely between four and eight hours, depending on the shade. The lipstick has a sweet, floral scent.

Value

  • Le Marc Lip Creme: $30.00 for 0.12 oz. or $250.00/oz.
  • Total Value: $62.50

No Angel (242) is a muted, medium-dark peach-brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff paired with a creamy, velvety texture that sat fairly well on the lips and did not settle into lip lines further over time (there was a very tiny amount initially). The color wore well for six hours but was neither drying nor hydrating. Estee Lauder Covetous Nude (P, $30.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Uber Beige (P, $35.00) is glossier (95% similar). Urban Decay Uptight (P, $17.00) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Honeycomb (P, $26.00) is lighter (90% similar). Makeup Geek Jetsetter (P, $12.00) is lighter (90% similar). Slowburn (246) is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had full color coverage that applied with smooth, even color that did not drag or pull on the lips. The texture was creamy, light-to-medium in weight, and easy to work with on the lips. On me, it lasted for six hours and was a touch drying. Tarte Cabana Boy (P, $22.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Cami (P, $5.00) is warmer (90% similar). Bite Beauty Fig (P, $26.00) is warmer (90% similar). Oh Miley (200) is a bright, bold, medium-dark red with strong, blue undertones and a cream finish. The color applied beautifully with smooth, even coverage, but it was just a little shy of being fully opaque. The consistency was a bit thinner, but it wasn’t clingy and glided on easily. This shade wore well for nearly eight hours on me, which made it one of the longer-wearing shades in the range for me. It was slightly drying after six hours of wear. MAC Como La Flor (LE, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Carina's Love (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Besame American Beauty 1945 (P, $22.00) is brighter (95% similar). Tarte Juicy (LE, $20.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever C404 (P, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Life's Blood (LE, $21.00) is cooler (95% similar). Maybelline Rich Ruby (P, $7.99) is less glossy, more muted, lighter (95% similar). Makeup Geek Elegant (P, $15.00) is glossier, darker (95% similar). Tarte Swamp Family (LE, $20.00) is more muted (90% similar). Make Up For Ever Red Ink (LE) is less glossy, darker (90% similar). Chanel Rouge Charnel (56) (P, $37.00) is warmer, darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Sour Cherry (P, $26.00) is cooler, darker (90% similar). Edward Bess Midnight Bloom (P, $32.00) is glossier, warmer (90% similar). NARS Rouge Improbable (LE, $28.00) is more muted, darker (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Imperial Red (P, $35.00) is warmer, darker (90% similar). Dior Marilyn (LE, $38.00) is brighter (90% similar). Tarte Firework (P, $22.00) is warmer, darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Miss Scarlet (208) is a deep red with warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was light-medium in weight, so it had a thicker, more velvety consistency that was comfortable to wear and apply as it glided well across the lips. It had rich color payoff, though not quite opaque, and it wore well for seven hours. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating. NARS Shirley (P, $32.00) is brighter, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Hex (P, $17.00) is more muted (95% similar). NARS Olivia (P, $32.00) is lighter (90% similar). NARS Mona (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Tarte Manbun (P, $20.00) is less glossy, darker (85% similar). Estee Lauder Desirous (P, $30.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Scandal (226) is a deep purple with warm, pink undertones and lighter pink and violet pearl. It had semi-opaque color payoff with an emollient consistency, which meant that the color was prone to sliding around and settling into lip lines. Of all the shades in the set, this one would have me most concerned about feathering for anyone prone to that (it did not feather or bleed on me, though). The color lasted for five hours and was lightly hydrating. It did seem to apply a bit better, overall, compared to the permanent version I have. MAC Yung Rapunxel (LE, $17.00) is glossier, warmer (90% similar). Smashbox Vinyl (P, $21.00) is more muted (90% similar). Estee Lauder Extrovert (P, $30.00) is cooler, darker (85% similar). Colour Pop Panda (P, $6.00) is lighter, less shimmery (85% similar). MAC Smoked Purple (P, $17.00) is cooler, darker (85% similar). MAC Instigator (P, $17.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Plague (LE, $17.00) is cooler, lighter (85% similar). MAC Power My Spirit (LE, $19.00) is more muted, darker (85% similar). NARS Train Bleu (P, $25.00) is darker (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Theo (DC, $35.00) is lighter, more shimmery (85% similar). Colour Pop Leather (P, $5.00) is cooler, lighter (80% similar). MAC Which Witch (LE, $17.00) is more muted, darker (80% similar). MAC Model Behavior (P, $17.00) is brighter, lighter, more shimmery (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
