From WWD:

MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with Sanrio Global Consumer Products to create a Hello Kitty color cosmetics collection.

The line will arrive on MAC’s Web site Feb. 10, in North American stores on Feb. 12 and into overseas stores in March.

“MAC has been mining pop culture since the brand was founded,” said John Demsey, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. “This is a sexy and innocent fashion line, and a true MAC moment. In these times, everyone can use a little fun — and a little Kitty.”

“The partnership was a no-brainer,” said James Gager, senior vice president and creative director of MAC Worldwide. “We cater to people who love to play with makeup.”

While in many licensing partnerships, the licensor shops his or her property around, MAC went after Sanrio, Hello Kitty’s owner, to do the deal. “They had never done makeup before, and I was certain that all those women who already own a bit of Hello Kitty would also want to own branded makeup,” said Gager.

MAC Metal Urge Collection Review

OVERALL, Metal Urge meets expectations–which were low. If you were one of the few who loved and enjoyed Metal-x last year, then you should enjoy this year’s rendition. But in the end, it is really just that: a regurgitation of last year’s collection. Of the Brushed Metal-x shades, Gilded Ash is tempting, just because it looks like a great color for a smoky eye. I know myself, and I know how my Metal-x shadows from last year are buried in my “I don’t use these” MAC box. The liquidlasts are always fun, but they’re readily available throughout the year, so it’s not a big deal to see them highlighted in this launch. The three pigments available are a nice trio of shades that all earn recommendations from me.

Dazzlelash Mascara Update & Review

Update on Dazzlelash: This formula just isn’t working out for me!  Some days it flakes, some days it smudges, and then other days it lasts all day.  I just can’t deal with a mascara that’s as finicky as I am!  What Dazzlelash excels at is lengthening lashes and separating them.  You’ll find it harder to clump up as you apply multiple coats with this formula.  It has a nice richness in its black color, too.  I don’t feel it thickens much (if at all), which is a drawback for me as I need thickening for my stubby, wispy lashes.  I found this was more likely to smudge/flake when I used it with Prep + Prime Lash than without it.  It removes easily (no stubborness), and if you’re in the market for separation and length, you ought to check this out if you can.  This seems like a mascara that people either love or just find so-so, but I haven’t heard from too many who outright dislike it.  Plushlash still holds as my go-to mascara (along with Lancome Oscillation and Chanel Exceptionnel) for the time being.
