Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour
Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour

Laura Mercier Cozy Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour ($24.00 for 0.06 oz.) is described as a “creme rosy red.” It’s a plummy red–not a bright, in-your-face red, and not a true plum (too warm and red for that). It had a lightly glossy sheen that still kept it looking like a lipstick but definitely not matte. Urban Decay Manic is darker, redder. Chanel Ce Soir is lighter, pinker. MAC Grande Dame is lighter. MAC Glamourdaze is darker, more muted, more plum. Guerlain Grenade is darker, pinker. Burberry Redwood is browner, darker, less pink. See comparison swatches.

This is a recently released formula that has three difference finishes (Sheer, Matte, and Creme), and Cozy has a Creme finish, which means it’s supposed to have a “luminous finish” and “medium-to-full coverage.” The formula, in general, is supposed to be hydrating, long-lasting, and “breathable.” The real surprise is just how lightweight it feels applied–almost as if you had nothing on–and anyone who normally dislikes lipsticks because they feel heavy may want to check out this range to see if it is more to their liking. Cozy had rich, opaque color coverage, and it was incredibly comfortable to wear, as it was nicely hydrating during the five and a half hours it lasted. It also wore away really evenly, as a gradual fade, with no ring of color around the edge of the lips.  Thankfully it’s quite pigmented, because the 0.06 oz. amount is very, very small relative to other lipsticks (usually around 0.10 oz., and for this type of packaging, I don’t remember seeing 0.06 oz. before–closer to 0.08 oz. or so).

Laura Mercier Sage Longwear Eye Pencil
Laura Mercier Sage Longwear Eye Pencil

Laura Mercier Sage Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had decent color payoff in a single stroke, and it was somewhat buildable to semi-opaque color coverage. With three or four passes, it was mostly opaque on the lash line. This shade lasted well for nine hours but looked substantially thinned out (but no smudging or migrating) after twelve hours. MAC Forever Green is more shimmery. bareMinerals 10AM is darker, slightly shimmery. See comparison swatches. Even with all of these olive green eyeliners, the matte finish makes this one stand out.

Slate Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a neutral, medium-dark gray–or it would be if it had any color payoff whatsoever. It had a really waxy consistency, which I expect is part of the reason why this had such poor pigmentation. No matter how many times I tried to layer it, it was always sheer and uneven. It seemed to look as bad ten hours later as it did when I initially applied it; all that waxiness kept what little applied in place, I guess. Urban Decay Smoke is similar. Urban Decay Uzi has shimmer. bareMinerals 11PM is lighter. Bobbi Brown Smoke is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.

Violet Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark cool-toned purple with a matte finish. The consistency on this was slightly waxy with just so-so color payoff, but it was more buildable than Slate. For a purple, it wasn’t half bad. It wore well for eight and a half hours but was noticeably thinner after ten hours of wear. Urban Decay Vice is warmer and shimmery. Urban Decay Ransom is more shimmery, cooler-toned. NARS St. Marks Place is cooler-toned, more violet. Milani Perfect Purple is more shimmery. MAC Designer Purple is also more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Laura Mercier’s new Longwear Creme Eye Pencils are supposed to apply smoothly and evenly, be richly pigmented, last for 12 hours (yes, a full 12!), be “water-poof, smudge-proof, transfer-proof, and tear-resistant.” Each pencil comes with a pencil sharpener as well. They’re definitely water-resistant to water-proof overall, though I will say that it was difficult to determine the outcome of Slate when splashed with water, given it already looked faded from the get-go! I was disappointed in the texture of Slate and Violet, with Violet being salvageable, but Slate had no redeeming factors.

Laura Mercier Cobalt Longwear Eye Pencil
Laura Mercier Cobalt Longwear Eye Pencil

Laura Mercier Cobalt Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium, navy blue–there’s just a little brightness so it’s not a full-on navy blue. If it were actually intensely pigmented, it would be really quite a rich shade of blue with a nice balance between bright and dark, so it wouldn’t read neon on the lash line but add more pop than something more muted. The consistency was still creamy, but it was sheer and hard to build up the color even when I went back and forth. It seemed to last about seven hours on the lash line, and then it looked thinner but not smudged or migrated, after eight hours. Sephora My Boyfriend’s Jeans has slight pearl and is brighter. Urban Decay Chaos is brighter. See comparison swatches.

Espresso Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark mahogany brown with warm, red undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single pass, and it was buildable to fully opaque color in two passes on the lash line. The consistency was creamy and didn’t tug or pull on the skin or eye area. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours without fading, migrating, or smudging, but it does take a little longer to set (which is nice if you tend to smudge your eyeliner). NARS Via de Martelli is lighter, warmer. Make Up For Ever #25L is less warm-toned. Urban Decay Bourbon is similar. NARS Via Appia is darker. MAC Brown Border is similar. MAC Seasonally Spicy is similar, slightly lighter. Make Up For Ever Gypsy is darker. See comparison swatches.

Noir Longwear Eye Pencil ($24.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark black with subtle warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had decent pigmentation in a single stroke, but it builds up nicely in two or so passes along the lash line. It wore well for ten hours with very light thinning but no smudging or migrating. Every line needs a black, but you likely already have one in your stash!

I can’t say I wet swimming in these, but I did splash my face/eye area with water, and I didn’t experience any of the colors running or bleeding as a result. Cobalt was very prone to being rubbed away (but it didn’t bleed), but Espresso and Noir clung on a lot better and really held up quite well to when in contact with water.

Laura Mercier Merlot Creme Smooth Lip Color
Laura Mercier Merlot Creme Smooth Lip Color

Laura Mercier Merlot Creme Smooth Lip Color ($26.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “deep burgundy.” It’s a deep, dark reddish wine with a little plum and burgundy. It has a creamy, luminous finish. Guerlain Madame Batifole is brighter, redder. MAC Heaux is matte, brighter. NARS Afghan Red is less red. MAC What Joy is darker. Guerlain Flirt is pinker. Giorgio Armani #408 is warmer. Chanel L’Impatiente is darker, less red. See comparison swatches.

This vampy shade is featured in the fall collection, though it is permanent. The formula is supposed to deliver “rich color with a semi-lustrous finish that lasts six to eight hours.” It is also supposed to hydrate lips and not feather or settle into lip lines while worn. Merlot was mostly opaque on lips, but there was a very slight translucency that kept it from being fully opaque–but it also gave it a lighter look. The consistency is creamy, emollient, and easy to apply without tugging onto the lips. I didn’t notice the color settling into lip lines, and I did not experience feathering when I wore it (but I don’t usually have issues with feathering). The color lasted well for six hours, and then it started to fade but there was a slight stain that lingered. The formula was moderately hydrating, and it was comfortable to wear.

Laura Mercier Spellbound Face Illuminator
Laura Mercier Spellbound Face Illuminator

Laura Mercier Spellbound Face Illuminator ($42.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “soft rose-gold.” It’s a warm, champagne-shimmered copper–it doesn’t really look pink on me, like a rose gold, it’s a little warmer, more orange. On cooler skin tones, the rosiness may be more apparent. NARS Luster is more orange, more pigmented. MAC Poised is less shimmery, more pigmented. MAC Barefaced is warmer, less shimmery. MAC Light Year is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Spellbound is supposed to highlight the face with “buildable long-wearing color.” It has a soft, smooth texture that makes blending a breeze. The color just diffuses and softens with ease and doesn’t look on uneven on the skin. It does have buildable color, so if you have a medium or lighter complexion, you’ll see some warmth and color added as well as a reflective sheen. I have normal-to-dry skin, and it does emphasize pores slightly when I used it on my cheeks, which wasn’t surprising, given the finish has such a high-shine. If used very lightly (like with a fan brush) just over the high planes of the cheeks, then I didn’t see any emphasis, so it will depend on how much you apply, where, and so on. It lasted eight hours well on my cheeks, and after nine hours, it started to look a bit faded and patchy.
