Illamasqua Hype Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Hype Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “matte bright yellow.” This is a vibrant, bright sunshine yellow–it has a lot of warmth. There’s a slightly goldenrod tone to it. It’s not as warm or as dark as MAC Goldenrod, but it is nearly identical to Inglot #323.  Other shades of yellow I think of are either more neutral or cool-toned or else have a lot of shimmer.

Illamasqua Burst Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Burst Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “blue-green.” It’s a medium-dark that’s just barely been kissed by tones of teal. It’s more blue than it is teal or green, but it’s not just blue. Tarina Tarantino Ozma is a bit similar in color, but it has a frosted finish, so it ends up looking different. MAC Cool Heat is a little more teal and has a subtle sparkle. Urban Decay Haight is bluer. Inglot #338 is a bit darker.

Beautiful Beginnings with Illamasqua

Beautiful Beginnings with Illamasqua

What was the first Illamasqua product you ever tried?  Did it pave way for a real romance or did it put you off the brand entirely?  What was the first Illamasqua product you purchased?  Did you love it? Hate it? Still own it?

my answer:  One of the coolest things about Illamasqua is that it’s one of the newer brands, so I get to say I was an early adopter!  The first products I tried were their nail varnishes, followed by their matte lipsticks and matte blushes.  I love the theme and aesthetic of Illamasqua, and they’ve always been a pleasure to work with.

Illamasqua Fledgling Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Fledgling Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “matte kelly green.” It’s a brightened medium grassy green with very subtle yellow undertones and a matte finish. MAC Fresh Flare is darker, cooler-toned. MAC Wondergrass is similar but a touch lighter, yellower, and shimmery. Inglot #384 is darker. Inglot #331 is even darker. Make Up For Ever #91 is just a little lighter and yellower.

Illamasqua Pivot Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Pivot Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “yellow green.” It’s a medium chartreuse green with strong yellow undertones and a matte finish. There are a lot of chartreuse shades on the market, but this shade is less dupeable because it has a fair amount of green in it–it is more green than yellow. MAC Swimming is darker, greener. MAC Lucky Green is a little yellower and has a shimmery finish. Make Up For Ever #171 is the closest shade, though it’s more vibrant, lighter, and has a frosted finish.

Illamasqua Stance Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Stance Nail Varnish ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “fuchsia violet with a glossy finish.” It’s a rich, vibrant magenta with a near-neon brightness. The closest shade I could think of was Urban Decay Miss T, which is very close but has shimmer and a touch pinker. The next closest would be China Glaze Senorita Bonita, which is much darker, purpler, and has shimmer. Illamasqua Obsess is pinker, less purple. Deborah Lippmann Makin’ Whoopee is more fuchsia.
