Guerlain Gwen Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Gwen Rouge G Lipstick

Fall Lipstick: Guerlain’s Gwen

Guerlain Gwen (69) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deepened ruby red with a glossy sheen and nearly imperceptible micro-shimmer.  It’s opaque, and like many Rouge Gs, wears incredibly well–my lips still looked scarlet after drinking a full Starbucks, and the color continued on like a champ for about six hours before gradually fading.  It’s moisturizing without being heavy or slippery; it’s creamy but not slick.  It applies like a dream–even color, smooth texture–and feels lightweight.

I think you’ve probably seen me profess my love for Rouge G Lipsticks often enough on the blog.  It has and continues to be one of my favorite lipstick formulas, even if it comes at a price.  All Rouge Gs are scented with a rather perfume-y mix, but I’ve never noticed it linger and only detect it when I smell the tube itself.

Guerlain Teint Rose Meteorites

The Trifecta of Guerlain’s Meteorites: Teint Rose

Guerlain Teint Rose Meteorites Powder ($56.00 for 1.05 oz.) is the last of the three new, reformulated Meteorites powders we have to review.  Previously, we reviewed Teint Beige and Teint Dore.  These can be used as highlighters or all over the face–less for setting, more for an all over glow.  Guerlain makes a Meteorites brush, but you can use any blush or highlighting brush to swirl in the pot for application.

According to Guerlain…

Harmony 01 / Teint Rose corrects by using mauve to reflect light and brightening the complexion along with green to reduce redness; pink to give skin a more even look; and white for illumination, gold for “radiance.”

This particular Meteorite has a blend of champage, white, yellow, green, pink, and purple pearls that create a soft, subtle micro-shimmered glow.  It’s a very silky and finely-milled product–this is not powdery, heavy, or cakey.  It doesn’t feel heavy, and it never looks unnatural.

Admittedly, it is difficult to see the nuances between the three Meteorites.  Even in person, they don’t look terribly different on me when applied.  Teint Rose is less golden, more white/champagne shimmer, while Teint Dore is a little more golden-bronze, and Teint Beige is is still a bit bronze but less yellow.  After seeing all three in person, I think  any one of them would be appropriate across skin tones and undertones.  They effect they have is so subtle, I can’t imagine any looking bad because of skin tone.

Still loving the totally upgraded Meteorites packaging, too!

Recommendation: It’s always nice to see a brand maintain or improve a product, particularly when they’re changing such a cult favorite! If you already have the previous versions of Meteorites, you may find this shade redundant, but if you don’t yet have Meteorites in your stash, you should take a gander next time you’re at a Guerlain counter.

Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick

The Sultry Season: Guerlain Gracieuse Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Gracieuse (05) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a softly gold-shimmered shade of darkened beige-brown.  It has full-color coverage, and it applies smoothly, richly, and beautifully in a single layer.  This is a great shade to wear instead of the traditional nude lip–it’s darker and more complex, but it’s still wearable with ease.  Rouge G lipsticks are creamy, lightweight, and wear an average of four hours on me.

Is this the right brown for you? Would you wear it?

The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

Guerlain Ginger Rouge G Lipstick

The Summer Season: Guerlain Ginger Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Ginger (43) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a one of the nicest ways to wear orange without going full-on orange.   It’s a medium orange-brown color base with soft orange and copper shimmer.  Color is nearly opaque in just one swipe, and it feels lightweight and moisturizing.  There’s a soft shimmer-sheen and natural glossiness–enough where you could skip gloss entirely and let the lipstick shine on its own (and I’m a lip combo fanatic).  Rouge G is the first formula that comes to mind when I think of my favorite lipstick formulas, and Ginger really shows why.

Guerlain Galante Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Galante Rouge G Lipstick

Ahh, Rouge G — I Still Love You

Guerlain Galante (09) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly brown-tinged, plum-kissed pink. Sephora describes it as a “rosy plum,” and I see the plum, but I also feel like you can’t not say there’s some brown in there, too. It’s a shade that’s difficult to describe. Not that that really matters, because it’s such a beautiful shade.

Every time I apply one of the Rouge Gs, I am reminded of how amazing the formula is. It’s soft, smooth, and moisturizing while delivering rich color in a whole slew of universally flattering shades. Galante has this subtle light rose pink micro-shimmer that dazzles and shimmers in the light in such a lovely way. I love the way they feel and wear–I get anywhere from three to six hours, depending on the shade. With a shade like this, I usually hit the four or five hour mark.

Guerlain’s Rouge Gs are scented with fragrance, so if you’re sensitive to scents, you may want to stop by and give it a whiff before committing $46 to it. I don’t notice it when I wear it, only when I smell the tube itself, but I’m not bothered by it either way. I still have a secret wish that they made the Rouge G formula available without the fancy case (which is truly fancy with its substantial weighty feel and flip mirror), just so the price wouldn’t be as high.

Guerlain Gipsy Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Gipsy Rouge G Lipstick

The Summer Season: Guerlain Gipsy Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Gipsy (#41) Rouge G Lipstick ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a beautiful shade of deep red-tinted orange with tangerine shimmer and sheen.  It’s one of my favorite orange-based lipsticks (and I’m surprisingly not a huge fan of orange lipstick on myself), but this is one I can definitely do.  I love the finish, the opaqueness, and the feel.  Rouge Gs are still one of my top lipstick formulas–they’re smooth, lightweight, wear well, and the colors are so flattering.
