Navy Blue Eyeliners: Your Guide

I think navy blue might be the color I have the most shades for!

1. Bobbi Brown Black Navy is a deep, dark navy that almost looks purple.
2. Make Up For Ever #8K is a deep navy blue. It is a touch darker than Dolce & Gabbana #8.
3. bareMinerals Noon is a blackened navy blue. (LE)
4. Dolce & Gabbana #8 is a deep navy blue with a sheen. It is a bit lighter than MUFE #8K.
5. Estee Lauder Blackened Sapphire is a rich, blackened navy blue with a matte finish. (LE)
6. MAC Marine Ultra is a lighter, but a darker blue with more brightness than other shades here.
7. MAC Prussian is a navy blue with a purple tinge and a soft sheen.
8. MAC Blooz is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to Givenchy #14.
9. Givenchy #14 is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to MAC Blooz.
10. NARS Rue Saint-Honore is a dark navy blue with a soft sheen. It is a touch more intense compared to Dolce & Gabbana #8 and MUFE #8K.
11. YSL Oriental Blue #3 is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a touch lighter than La Prairie Midnight Blue.
12. Korres #9 is a teal-ish blue (looked navy blue in the pencil!). (DC)
13. La Prairie Midnight Blue is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a bit darker than YSL Oriental Blue.
14. Chanel Marine is a shimmering navy blue.
15. Make Up For Ever #3L is a blackened navy blue with soft sparkle.
16. MAC Fly-By-Blu is a lightened blue over a blackened navy base. (LE)
17. MAC Petrol Blue is a dark navy blue with sparkle over a blackened blue base. This shade is similar to MUFE #8K and D&G #8.
18. MAC Blue Stripe is a blackened navy blue with a subtle sheen. It is darker and less sparkly compared to MAC Petrol Blue, and a touch darker than MUFE #3L.
19. Urban Decay Binge is a lightened navy blue with a hint of purple; it is a bit lighter than the other navy blues here.
20. Tarina Tarantino Cute Robot is a rich navy blue over a blackened navy base. It is comparable to NARS Rue Saint-Honore and MAC Petrol Blue.
21. MAC Sense of Style is a darkened, teal-blue with a black base. (LE)
22. MAC Navy Stain is a navy blue with subtle sheen.
23. MAC Hyacinth is a medium-dark blue with a matte finish. (LE)
24. MAC Industrial is a lightened, medium blue with a brownish-black base. It is similar to MAC Fly-By-Blu, but it has a lighter base.
25. Urban Decay LSD is medium blue sparkle over a blackened navy base. It is a bit like MAC Fly-By-Blu. (LE)

Nude & Champagne Eyeliners: Your Guide

Two years ago, I went through and swatched every eyeliner I owned by color, so that they could easily be compared.  It’s time for a re-do, because we have so many more shades to add to our comparisons!  Our first part of this on-going series is a comparison of the various nude and champagne eyeliners I have on hand.  This shade is typically used on the lower lash line or water line to help brighten and open up eyes.

1. BAREMINERALS 5AM is a pewter–it’s a dirty, cool-toned gold with a silvered sheen. I didn’t expect it to be similar to anything here, but it didn’t fit well with golds either.
2. MAC GILDED WHITE is a warm white gold with a metallic sheen. (LE)
3. MAC NC15/NW20 is a light beige/fleshy shade. It is a hair darker than NARS Rue Bonaparte.
4. MAC NW25/NC30 is a darker version of NW15/NC20. Almost looks like a darkened peach.  It is very similar to Givenchy #2.
5. MAC NC42/NW35 is darker version of NW25/NC30. It looks a bit peachy/orange on me.
6. GIVENCHY #2 is a warm, peachy beige with yellow-beige undertones and a mostly matte finish. It is comparable to MAC NW25/NC30.
7. NARS RUE BONAPARTE is a soft beige with a matte finish. It is just barely lighter than MAC NC15/NW20.
8. MAC I GET NO KICK is a soft champagne nude with a metallic sheen. (LE) It is ever-so-slightly warmer than MUFE #23L but very comparable to UD Midnight Cowboy.
9. MAKE UP FOR EVER #23L is a shimmering golden champagne with a nearly metallic finish. This shade is slightly less warm compared to MAC I Get No Kick and UD Midnight Cowboy.
10. URBAN DECAY MIDNIGHT COWBOY is a shimmering champagne peach with a subtle metallic sheen. (LE) This is most comparable to MAC I Get No Kick.  An alternative to this shade would be Urban Decay’s Shadow Pencil of the same name.

Givenchy Fall 2011: Lune Mordoree Les Ombres de Lune

Givenchy Lune Mordoree Les Ombres de Lune ($58.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a two-in-one product that includes an illuminating powder (for cheeks and eyes) and “intense eyeshadow.” Mordoree is described as a “night blue moon in a golden sky.”

The moon-shaped shade is a dusky navy blue with a hint of purple and a pearled sheen. It had a drier texture than I’d like to see, because drier textures often make for more difficult blending and application. For something that is described as “intense,” I also expected better pigmentation. It reminded me of MAC Later, and I imagine a comparison could be drawn to MAC Contrast as well.

The sky shade is a pale, yellowed gold with a fair amount of sheen in its finish. The texture of this shade is much better–it’s smoother, softer, and silkier. It blends out better and doesn’t have the dryness of the darker shade. It looks a bit like theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer when blended out. It’s darker than MAC Nylon.

Givenchy did an outstanding job on the packaging–the outer packaging reflects what you should expect to see inside, while the product itself is practical in size so that both sections can be used as intended. There is a pull-out drawer with three sponge-tipped applicators, and while they’re softer than super cheap sponge-tipped applicators, they aren’t noteworthy. I’d rather them omit those and make the compact even slimmer. Inside the compact is also a mirror.

	Lune Mysterieuse is the better of the two. The darker shade in this palette has both texture and pigmentation issues, while the lighter shade is better, it is not as smooth or as rich as Lune Mysterieuse was.

Givenchy Fall 2011: Lune Mysterieuse Les Ombres de Lune

Givenchy Lune Mysterieuse Les Ombres de Lune ($58.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a two-in-one product that includes an illuminating powder (for cheeks and eyes) and “intense eyeshadow.” Mysterieuse is described as a “black moon in a creamy white sky.”

The moon-shaped shade is a smoky, gray-black with multicolored shimmer and a pearled sheen. It has good color payoff, but the color itself is more muted than it appears in the pan–there is a very soft, dusted quality to it and the way the shimmer plays with the color makes it almost seem tinged with purple. The color reminded me of theBalm Feisty Felicia.

The “sky” is a creamy white–it’s warm but still white, with a shimmer-sheen. It has a lovely buttery texture that’s dense and luxurious–very blendable and soft. It’s similar to theBalm’s Envious Erin. As a cheek highlighter, it reminded me of MAC Too Chic, which has more of a peach color.
