Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham

NET-A-PORTER, NordstromNeiman Marcus, and The Bay have launched the collection this morning.  As of this posting, I have only seen the Modern Mercury Highlighter in stock on NET-A-PORTER and The Bay.

Edited at 9:23AM PST: Reader LaMaitresse noted the collection is at The Bay as well.

The collection is supposed to be available today at maccosmetics.com for all customers.  MAC updated press information yesterday stating that the collection will be available in all stores on October 6th.  (I’d still double-check and call your local store, if you can, especially if it’s a long drive.)  Retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillards, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks are supposed to have the collection online on October 3rd, per MAC’s tweet below:

Here’s a look at how the products I tried from the new Estee Lauder x Vicoria Beckham Collection performed!  My personal favorites are the Modern Mercury Highlighter and Eye Palette.

There are a few remaining pieces available via Bergdorf Goodman and most through Selfridges, while Saks has the collection available for pre-order.  Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and NET-A-PORTER are also supposed to launch the collection on October 1st.

EYE INK

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Black Myrrh Eye Ink ($45.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a deep black with silver sparkle. Buxom Black Tie (LE, $12.00) is warmer (95% similar). Dior Eternal Gold #5 (LE) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). City Color Oh So Naughty (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (90% similar). Estee Lauder Burnt Anise (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, glossier (90% similar). Lancome The New Black (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Shameless (P, $5.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Midnight (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, more muted (90% similar). Colour Pop Raven (LE, $5.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). CoverGirl Molten Black (300) (P, $4.99) is darker (85% similar). Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Oyster (Cream) (LE, $45.00) is lighter (80% similar). Chanel Mirifique (P, $32.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). MAC Jet Couture (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

It is supposed to be a “pressed gel-creme formula” with “deep, rich” pigmentation. It actually felt similar to the Eye Metals to the touch, but the ingredient list shows them to be different, and it did feel creamier and more like a cream-based product than a powder one. I think it is the density and lack of glossiness/a lot of slip that made it seem less like a traditional cream eyeshadow. It lasted for seven hours before starting to crease on me, and when I tried it as an eyeliner, it was harder to apply with the same intensity as when I used a flatter, wider brush (doesn’t seem to play well with finer brushes), but it lasted a bit longer at eight hours. It was richly pigmented and blendable on the skin.

EYE FOIL

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Burnt Anise Eye Foil ($36.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is an inky, bluish-black with silver and teal sparkle paired with a metallic sheen. Buxom Black Tie (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Estee Lauder Black Myrrh (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (90% similar). Colour Pop Shameless (P, $5.00) is warmer (90% similar). Lancome The New Black (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Anastasia Midnight (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). CoverGirl Molten Black (300) (P, $4.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). City Color Oh So Naughty (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Mirifique (P, $32.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Dior Eternal Gold #5 (LE) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). The formula is supposed to have “high-shine” and give a “liquid-metal effect.” It’s very thin, almost water-like, and applies better to my arm/hand than to my eye when used with the included doe-foot applicator. I had a little more luck using a flat, synthetic brush, but it is so thin that trying to blend and spread the product across the skin’s surface did more to some product but not all, which resulted in an uneven layer of coverage. It had a longer drying time, so it easily migrated into creases when I used it alone, and it had a tendency to cause underlying products to crease if used as more than just a dab (like patting on top of an eyeshadow with your fingertip). I also experienced some burning sensation as it was drying down. Once it dried down, it was fairly smudge-proof and budge-proof; it took a lot of rubbing with my fingertip (against my hand) to get any transfer, and it was mostly shimmer. I saw only a few sparkles that had dropped over time, and it didn’t seem to crease further once it dried down — it’s just more finicky to avoid the creasing in the first place.

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Lipsticks & Lipgloss

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Brazilian Nude Lipstick

BRAZILIAN NUDE

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Brazilian Nude Lipstick ($45.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark peachy brown with warm udnertones and a soft sheen. bareMinerals Honeybun (P, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Fresh Brew (P, $17.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Freckletone (P, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Maybelline Touchable Taupe (940) (P, $7.49) is more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). bareMinerals Strip (P, $20.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Among the Fireflies (LE, $17.00) is darker (85% similar). Colour Pop Kiddo (P, $5.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Pure Pout (P, $23.00) is lighter (80% similar). Bobbi Brown Uber Nude (P, $24.00) is darker, more pigmented (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied evenly, and the consistency was lightly creamy, emollient, and didn’t tug when applied. I didn’t feel like it slid around when I wore it, which made it last a bit better–almost four hours. It was lightly hydrating and had a vanilla scent to it with no taste (to me, at least). This shade had the level of translucency where just enough of the lip color will come through and alter how warm/cool/light/dark this shade looks based on one’s natural lip color.

CHILEAN SUNSET

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Brazilian Nude Lipstick ($45.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. Make Up For Ever C403 (P, $22.00) is warmer (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Tell Laura (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Colour Pop First Class (DC, $6.00) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Barbecue (LE, $17.00) is lighter, more muted (95% similar). Bite Beauty Cayenne (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Tarte Mai Tai (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Maybelline Craving Coral (P, $7.99) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Marlene (P, $32.00) is darker, more muted, glossier (90% similar). MAC So Chaud (P, $17.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Kat Von D Countess (P, $21.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Colour Pop Bootie (P, $5.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Lady Danger (P, $17.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Lover's Lane (P, $20.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Lobster (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Persimmon (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M300 (P, $22.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Tarte Cray Cray (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Estee Lauder Volatile (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Maybelline Orange Danger (P, $7.49) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Chanel Rouge Feu (57) (P, $36.00) is darker (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

It had rich color coverage that went on smoothly, but the consistency itself was unforgiving and emphasized the texture of my lips with some of the color gathering in lip lines (the brightness and depth of the color made it harder to notice, at least). It felt more velvety and didn’t tug going on, but it just didn’t sit as well as on the lips overall. This shade wore well for over six hours but was a bit drying after four hours of wear. The formula was vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste. Because it’s imperfect, I think that the $45 price tag is hard to swallow, and the color itself (even the finish) is incredibly dupable–even within Estee Lauder’s permanent range.

MOROCCAN HEAT

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Moroccan Heat Lip Gloss ($36.00 for 0.07 fl. oz.) is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm, yellowy undertones and a cream finish. MAC Fashion Whim (LE, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Milkshake (P, $22.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). NARS Instant Crash (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Divergent Supreme Ritual (LE) is lighter (90% similar). Sephora Cappuccino (02) (P, $12.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Naked Space (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Rising Sun (P, $20.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). MAC Myth (LE, $15.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Ultimate Dish (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Peachstock (LE, $15.00) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I found the gloss to be one of the more disappointing and lackluster (there’s a pun there, I know it!) products in the collection; it is such a weak gloss formula with the type of packaging that I know many are not enamored of, and there’s a pitiful amount of it in the container. It is strange to me that there is not even a noticeable amount of sparkle/shimmer in it to work as a layering product over the two lipsticks. It was moderately tacky, thin, difficult to spread across the lips, and then it welled into lip lines and looked a bit streaky and uneven on the lips to boot! Another thing that struck me as odd was that it is fig-scented, which is the old school Estee Lauder lip product smell, when they’ve been moving to vanilla scents (true in the Pure Color Envy line, and also true in the lipsticks from this same collection). The best part about the gloss was that it lasted for four hours on me and wasn’t drying.

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Bitter Clove & Charred Emerald Eye Metals

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Bitter Clove Eye Metals
Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Bitter Clove Eye Metals

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Eye Metals ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to be a “rich color powder eyeshadow” that is “densely pigmented” that can be worn alone or layered. There are two shades in the collection, and they performed similarly, though Bitter Clove is a bit richer overall and longer wearing. They were nicely pigmented with very dense, almost cream-like textures that blended out easily on the lid and adhered to bare lids. I found that they were prone to creasing within six hours of wear, but the wear time improved to eight hours (before creasing) over primer, so primer helped but can’t say these are the longest wearing formula. I did not experience much fall out, though, despite the high sparkle content in Bitter Clove (Charred Emerald has more of a pearly sheen). I liked them, but at the price point, it’s definitely a lot for a single eyeshadow, so they’re not going to be worth it for everyone.

They come in the same leather (or leather-like, even in the official press release I now have, there is almost nothing on packaging) compact with heavy-duty gold clasps and good weight to them. These are larger eyeshadows in terms of overall size, and the weight is about double most eyeshadows (MAC, Urban Decay, etc.).

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Bitter Clove Eye Metals ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark golden blackened-brown with larger, gold flecks of sparkle and shimmer that has a more metallic finish. It was intensely pigmented with a dense, cream-like texture that blended and adhered well to the lid. The color started to crease faintly after six hours of wear. Gucci Beauty Iconic Gold (P, $37.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Bronze (LE) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tarte Shake Down (LE, $14.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Colour Pop So Quiche (P, $5.00) is lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Brownie (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Colour Pop Amira (DC, $5.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Natasha Denona Raw Gold (13M) (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). Too Faced Don't Settle (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay Zap (P, $22.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Lithium (P, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). Maybelline Bold Gold (P, $6.99) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Burn (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Guerlain Les Precieux #4 (LE) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Anastasia Chiffon (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Oz #1 (LE, $19.00) is lighter (85% similar). bareMinerals Ritzy (LE) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Charred Emerald Eye Metals ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep, blackened teal with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic and was easy to apply to the skin. While it was intense on the lid initially, I noticed that the brightness seemed to fade within a few minutes, and it had more of a blackened look. From there, the color wore well for six hours before it started to crease on me. Milani Mix It Up (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Cleopatra (P, $32.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Tonight's the Night (LE, $22.00) is brighter (90% similar). Too Faced Storm Cloud (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals Deep Sea (LE, $14.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Deep Blue Green (P, $21.00) is warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals Dazzle (P) is more muted (90% similar). Viseart Boheme Dream #10 (LE) is lighter (90% similar).
