Dolce & Gabbana Desert Lipstick
Dolce & Gabbana Desert Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Desert Lipstick

Dolce & Gabbana Desert Classic Cream Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a burnt caramel sugar bronze with golden bronze sheen and shimmer. It’s semi-opaque, and it doesn’t apply as evenly as I’d like.  I’m also surprised that this is a Classic Cream finish, because it has the shinier finish found in their Shine Lipsticks.

I get an average of four hours of wear with Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream Lipsticks, and I find them comfortable to wear, but I would not describe them as moisturizing (but not drying either). All Dolce & Gabbana’s lipsticks are heavily rose-scented, and I do consider them some of the heaviest scented products I’ve come across. If you aren’t keen on roses, you may find these too strong.

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: I wish it applied more evenly, because then it could be a really nice shade.  This is a shade actually works well on both cooler and warmer skin tones; cooler skin tones will appreciate the more neutral tone of it (the traditional warmth accompany bronze and copper is lessened in this shade), while warmer skin tones will find their warmer under tones pull out the copper in the lipstick itself.

Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner
Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner: White & Lilac

Dolce & Gabbana Secret Garden: Lilac Eyeliner

Dolce & Gabbana Lilac Crayon Intense Eyeliner ($29.00 for 0.054 oz.) will see the introduction of two new shades, White and Lilac from Dolce & Gabbana’s Secret Garden Collection, which should hit Saks counters and online soon.

  • Lilac is a vibrant blue-violet with a fuchsia-violet undertone. Unfortunately, it is a pain to work with–there is no creaminess, so the color drags and skips when applied. I really wanted to wear it, but I could barely get it to show up, even after working the tip down a bit.

Dolce & Gabbana’s Eyeliners are hit or miss for me; they’re often too hard, so they lack enough creaminess to enable the eyeliner to apply smoothly and evenly. They don’t glide-on, and instead, they can tug on the lash line or skip when applied, which results in an uneven, splotchy look.   Lilac just did not work for me at all; what I managed to apply wore okay for about four or five hours, but it was so faint and sheer.

  • Product: 16/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: It’s such a shame that it doesn’t apply evenly nor have enough creaminess to glide on and deposit pigment intensely.   It’s a beautiful color but not worth picking up based on a rougher texture, below average wear, and sheer color.

Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner
Dolce & Gabbana Eyeliner: White & Lilac

Dolce & Gabbana Secret Garden: White Eyeliner

Dolce & Gabbana White Crayon Intense Eyeliner ($29.00 for 0.054 oz.) will see the introduction of two new shades, White and Lilac from Dolce & Gabbana’s Secret Garden Collection, which should hit Saks counters and online soon.

  • White is exactly as it sounds–it’s a bright, creamy white and is one of the creamiest liners I’ve tested from Dolce & Gabbana’s range.

Note, however, that White didn’t have the poor texture that plagues many other Dolce & Gabbana eyeliners–it was very creamy and pigmented; it was easy to work with. This is why I don’t like to combine reviews, because unless a product line is very consistent, there can be enough variance that each product will earn a different grade–and this is exactly why I split this post into two separate ones, even though their content is very similar.

  • Product: 25/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: White looks rather stark on my medium skin tone, so I’m not sure what skin tone this would be ideal for–it is a very bright white, and could offer a lot of contrast for the right look. While it is creamy, I wouldn’t necessarily use it as an eyeshadow base. It wore for only six hours though, before fading away.

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2011 Makeup Collection: Secret Garden

Dolce & Gabbana celebrates spring’s new beginnings with a fresh interpretation of a pure radiant beauty that effortlessly captures the present with an enlightened eye…and forecasts a flourishing future.
Introducing The Secret Garden Collection for Spring 2011…evocative essentials offer an intimate path to a mythical beauty. Inspired by the Spring 2011 runway, a re-interpretation of Dolce & Gabbana’s bewitching glamour and treasured heritage creates a world of fantasy, desire and luxury with poetic pastels and mercurial tone on tone translucence.

“We’ve always been inspired by the lush gardens so unique to Sicily; they’re like a secret paradise. The aura of romance – the intoxicating wild flowers, the soft pastels – is such an integral part of our heritage and our aesthetic,” says Stefano Gabbana, “The creation of Spring 2011 was almost subliminal; it came directly from our hearts. It gave us so much pleasure to make something so special for the Dolce & Gabbana woman we know so intimately. Secret Garden is meant to be a key to her innermost soul, very personal, very private and, of course, extremely seductive.”

Adds Domenico Dolce, “With Secret Garden, we wanted to provide a kind of privileged information – or secret formula – for the women we love so much – so she could effortlessly achieve that illusive look of intrigue that all women crave. As for the fabulous Illuminator, it was, of course, inspired by the unfathomable Scarlett – the woman who epitomizes the true mystique of Dolce & Gabbana.”

Empowered with an intangible air of irresistible sensuality, the Secret Garden Collection renders a quiet passion and singular that’s enigmatic yet powerfully magnetic. Secret Garden presents a magical path toward a phantom-like beauty that is very real, with a mystical power that’s impalpable yet implicit. Dolce & Gabbana redefine glamour yet again with a provocative touch and a signature sensibility of luxury and compelling contrast.

A bouquet of colour redolent of a fresh field of flora, the luxe palette is purposely finite in order to offer infinite facets of modern femininity: warm nudes and cool neutrals; pastel blushes and tender pinks; silvery greys and soft floral highlights of lilac and pale turquoise. Weightless veils of tone-on-tone colour shift and shimmer seamlessly to capture the intimacy of pure femininity as Dolce & Gabbana solve the classic mystery of ultimate modern beauty.

Dolce & Gabbana Caramel Lipgloss
Dolce & Gabbana Caramel Lip Gloss

A Nude That Works!

Dolce & Gabbana Caramel (50) Lip Gloss ($29.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a muted, medium beige nude with a high shine finish. It tones down my natural lip color without washing me out, which I can definitely appreciate! Unlike some nude glosses, it doesn’t look thick or unnatural, and it doesn’t feel gloopy at all–but there is still some color to it, it’s not just a sheer gloss. There is a touch of tackiness, but I wouldn’t describe these as sticky.

Dolce & Gabbana Lip Glosses are moisturizing, and they fade really well when they wear away. I only get about two to three hours of wear, which is a little below average for me. These glosses are rose-scented but don’t seem to have any taste. With just 0.13 oz. in a tube (compared to 0.20 oz. for other high-end brands like Chanel, Guerlain, and YSL), these are pricey. Overall, they’re nice glosses, but it’s not quite the holy grail.

  • Product: 26/30
  • Value: 6/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: It’ll work well to neutralize your natural lip color without washing out, which is nice, but it’s pricey.

Dolce & Gabbana Makeup Brushes
Dolce & Gabbana Makeup Brushes:  Powder, Blush, Blending, Eyeshading, Lip

Are Dolce & Gabbana Makeup Brushes Worth It?

Dolce & Gabbana Makeup Brushes debuted earlier this year, and despite having much luck with Dolce & Gabbana’s Makeup Line… I’m just not loving their makeup brushes. I actually find them, on the whole, a little scratchy. They are just nowhere near as soft as I expect from quality makeup brushes.

I know that a lot of readers thought the packaging looked very cheap with the gold plating and black handle, but the handles are a very sleek, matte black, which I think offsets the shiny gold plating in a way that’s not quite as “cheap” looking as anticipated. The ferrules also seem tightly in place, and I had very little bristle fall out, even on first use.  All of the brushes are made out of natural hair (goat and sable).

  • The Powder Brush ($55.00) is a large, dome-shaped brush with nice fullness, but it is a little scratchy. It’s pretty soft, but sometimes I find it less than pleasant on the skin.  It is luxuriously full and dense, though.
  • The Retractable Lip Brush ($29.00) is a small, thin brush that is thick and slightly tapered at the end. It is thicker than the average lip brush, and it’s not quite as wide. I like the firmness it has, and I like that it is retractable with a case, so it can be stored easily in a purse.
  • The Blush Brush ($48.00) is a medium-sized, tapered brush with a subtle dome shape. It works well for applying just the right amount of blush on cheeks as well as highlighting the cheek bones. I found it softer than the Powder Brush but not as soft as I would expect.
  • The Eyeshading Brush ($30.00) is a small, densely-packed dome-shaped eye brush. It is extremely similar to MAC’s 239, but this version seems an itsy bit smaller and firmer. I really liked the shape itself, but it, too, felt a little scratchy when used to blend.
  • The Blending Brush ($32.00) is a fluffy, slightly tapered brush designed for blending eyeshadows. I don’t think I have small eyes necessarily, but I found this brush too big to be all that useful. It may work better if you have larger eyes.

  • Product: 23/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I do not recommend purchasing these without having tested them in-person. They are not the worst brushes I have tried, and they really aren’t bad–they are decent–but there are better brands (at this price point or lower) out there. If you want to try Dolce & Gabbana, I recommend trying one of their blushes or lipsticks instead!
