Dior Cuir Cannage (796) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Cuir Cannage (796) Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a set of darker neutrals with warm undertones that range from light beige to burgundy-brown. I think it’s one of those palettes that performs better in practice as you apply and layer and blend them together than it swatches. It could use more pigmentation across the board (only one shade really nailed pigmentation), but for the most part, the eyeshadows were blendable and fairly easy to apply.

Dior Golden Shock Collection for Holiday 2014

Dior Golden Shock Collection for Holiday 2014
Dior Golden Shock Collection for Holiday 2014

From the inception of the House of Dior, gold has been a signature color of the brand. From Mr. Dior’s first creations, which incorporated highlights of rich gold as luxurious accents, to the modern-yet-timeless looks of Raf Simons, which feature metallic gold elements to balance audacious shades of red, pink, blue and yellow, gold remains a constant theme. Now, the Dior Golden Shock Holiday Color Collection draws inspiration from Dior’s past and present by incorporating pops of color with dazzling gold accents.

Dior Trafalgar (876) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Trafalgar (876) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a mix of pinks, golds, and plums. It’s one of the five new (and permanent) variations added to the 5 Couleurs range. It was a lot better than Pied de Poule, so my experience with the range is mixed (I only bought two, and I don’t have plans to buy others at this time) but consistent with my experience using Dior’s eyeshadow palettes in general. Some are amazing, some are completely and utter disappointments, and some are in-between. Trafalgar didn’t have any major misses; all five shades had fairly good pigmentation, wore well without fall out or fading issues, and were easy enough to use.

Dior Pied de Poule (096) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Pied de Poule (096) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0.21 oz.) For fall, Dior’s “reinvented” their 5 Couleurs’ palettes with five new color combinations. I bought Pied de Poule (096) as it looked like an interesting mix of smoky, fall shades. The palette was decent but not a favorite for me due to inconsistent pigmentation in the shades. In general, the eyeshadow formula felt thin and drier, though the blue and green shades were less dry (the blue felt soft and buttery–it was a bit of a tease since that was the first I swatched!).

5 Beautiful Pewter Eyeshadows

What I love about the color of pewter is the variety… it can lean cool, silvery or warmer, more like a dirty, antique gold. Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Sephora Lunar Eclipse — a sparkling silver and gold mix
  2. MAC Antique Diamond — a medium-dark pewter with warm undertones
  3. Dior Etoile — a light, shimmering silver and gold
  4. Sugarpill Tiara — — a silver-leaning pewter
  5. L’Oreal Gilded Envy — a dark pewter with bronze and antique gold shimmer
