Dior Eternal Gold (576) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Eternal Gold (576) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Eternal Gold (576) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Eternal Gold (576) Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a limited edition palette for the holidays. It was less impressive than Blazing Gold, but it wasn’t the worst Dior palette I’ve tried either, so I guess there’s that. I like the color concept (which is the norm for Dior!), but I wish these were less dusty/dry overall.

Eternal Gold #1 is a light-medium, meadowy green with warm, golden frost. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a dusty, thinner texture. It blended out okay on the skin, but I couldn’t build up the color at all. The color lasted for six hours before fading.

Eternal Gold #2 is a light, golden beige with a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly dusty, but blendable, consistency that applied well to the skin. It wore for seven hours on me.

Eternal Gold #3 is a bright, white gold with a cooler white base paired with really yellow gold that gives it a more metallic sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth, lightly dense texture that was blendable and lasted for seven and a half hours.

Eternal Gold #4 is a soft, medium-dark plum with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had decent color payoff with a lightly dusty texture that made it apepar a little drier on the lid, but I had no trouble blending and diffusing the edges. On me, it started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear.

Eternal Gold #5 is a deep black with subtle, warm brown undertones and lots of silver sparkle. The texture was very dense, more like a cream eyeliner to me, than a powder eyeshadow. I did have some trouble getting it to blend out without becoming patchy, as it was so thick. It did last for eight hours, though!

Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Blazing Gold (886) Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.25 oz.) is one of two, limited edition holiday quints available this year. The formula looked like it might be comparable to my beloved Bonne Etoile, but alas, it was not so. I think it ended up being better than some of the recent Dior palettes, but it isn’t without its issues. It seemed like a wet/dry formula when I was trying it, but I couldn’t find anything on Dior’s site about wearing it damp/wet, so the ratings reflect dry application only.

Blazing Gold #1 is a vibrant, medium cranberry red with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. It was richly pigmented with a really smooth, dense consistency–almost like a cream. It lasted for eight hours before fading. Colour Pop Drift (LE, $5.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC It's Not Easy Having a Good Time (LE, $21.00) is warmer, more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Cranberry (P, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery (95% similar). Make Up For Ever I824 Ocher Pink (P, $21.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Gash (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Sonic (LE, $19.00) is brighter, lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Kat Von D WTF (LE) is warmer, lighter, less shimmery (90% similar). Le Metier de Beaute Fire Lily (P, $30.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Zoeva Warm Notes (P) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Crimson Tryst (LE, $16.00) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Viseart Boheme Dream #9 (LE) is lighter, more shimmery (85% similar). Kat Von D Swoon (Better Together) (LE) is warmer, lighter (85% similar). Tarte Hot MoMA (LE) is cooler (85% similar). Sleek MakeUP Sunset #8 (P, $9.99) is warmer, brighter, lighter (85% similar). Colour Pop Seeker (LE, $5.00) is cooler, darker, less shimmery (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #2 (LE) is warmer, lighter (90% similar). MAC Ruddy (P, $16.00) is lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Blazing Gold #2 is a sparkling, light pastel pink with subtle, warm undertones. It had a dustier, drier texture that was prone to sheering out on the skin. It wore well for eight hours with light fall out. Sephora Ex-boyfriend (LE) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC A Party of Pastels #2 (P, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm #2 (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Enchanted Beauty (LE, $16.00) is warmer, less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Good Fortune (LE, $16.50) is warmer (95% similar). Kat Von D Instaglam (LE) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Flatline (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Clarins Rosewood #1 (P) is lighter (90% similar). Cle de Peau Les Annees Folles #6 (LE) is warmer, less pigmented (90% similar). Ulta Pink (P, $10.00) is warmer (90% similar). Dior Trafalgar #1 (P) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Harmonie du Soir #4 (LE) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Looking Glass (LE, $19.00) is warmer, darker, less shimmery (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Blazing Gold #3 is a light-medium, golden peach with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It was semi-sheer with a thinner texture, which made it harder to get the sparkle to stay on the skin. I would only use this patted over other eyeshadows or with an adhesive base. It wore well for seven hours but had fall out. LORAC Cashmere (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Milani Bella Chiffon (28) (P, $4.49) is less shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Petrouchka #1 (LE) is darker, less shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Nude Beam (LE) is darker (95% similar). Sephora Minx (LE) is less shimmery (95% similar). Colour Pop Famous (LE, $5.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Best Makeup (LE, $22.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Smashbox Fortune (LE) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain Ors et Merveilles #3 (LE) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Dior Golden Flower #3 (LE) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Chic (LE, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). theBalm #41 (P, $6.50) is darker, less shimmery (90% similar). Colour Pop Fringe (DC, $5.00) is darker (90% similar). Viseart Champagne (P) is brighter, darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever ME512 Golden Beige (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). LORAC Uninhibited (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Dearest (P) is darker (90% similar). Cle de Peau Champagne Supernova #1 (P) is darker (90% similar). MAC Night Thrill (LE, $22.00) is darker (85% similar). Rouge Bunny Rouge Golden Rhea (P, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Blazing Gold #4 is a muted, medium-dark plum with warm, brown undertones and a soft shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that applied evenly and smoothly. On me, the eyeshadow lasted for eight hours before fading. Anastasia Pose (P, $12.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Tarte Fingerpaint Art (LE) is darker (90% similar). Cle de Peau Stellar Gaze #4 (P) is lighter (90% similar). LORAC Amethyst (P, $19.00) is warmer, brighter, darker (85% similar). Cle de Peau Silver Eclipse #2 (P) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Make Up For Ever I544 Pink Granite (P, $21.00) is warmer, lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Tarte Vio-let It Go (LE) is warmer (85% similar). Dior Eternal Gold #4 (LE) is cooler, lighter (85% similar). MAC Shale (P, $16.00)(85% similar). Disney by Sephora Rococo (LE) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Too Faced Jammin' (LE, $16.00) is brighter (85% similar). Chanel Rouge Noir (857) (P, $32.00) is warmer, darker (85% similar). Cle de Peau Cosmic Aura #3 (P) is cooler, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Blazing Gold #5 is an intense, deep taupe with warm, brown undertones and a cooler, grayer overtone. It was nicely pigmented, and it had a very dense, cream-like texture (I would have swore it was like a gel eyeliner). The color wore well for eight hours, but it was a little harder to blend due to how dense/thick it was on the skin. NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #12 (LE, $25.00) is cooler (85% similar). Lancome Volcano (P, $19.00) is more muted, lighter, less shimmery (80% similar). MAC Bossa Blue (LE, $21.00) is lighter, less shimmery (80% similar). Charlotte Tilbury The Huntress (LE) is warmer, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dior Blazing (631) DiorShow Fusion Mono

Dior Blazing (631) DiorShow Fusion Mono ($31.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a sparkling, soft champagne gold with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It’s a new, limited edition shade for the holidays. The DiorShow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow formula is a cream eyeshadow formula that feels like a cross between cream and mousse, as it is spongy and less wet. The pigmentation varies from shade to shade with Blazing landing in the semi-opaque range with some ability to build-up to mostly opaque coverage. It has a soft, velvety texture that applies smoothly and blends easily. The sparkle is fine and not gritty, and there was minimal fall out over time, while the underlying color lasted a good nine hours on me.

P.S. — Nordstrom appears to be doing some price-matching presently, and many high-end brands (including Dior) are showing up as 10% off!

Dior Luxurious Beige Illuminating Pressed Powder ($82.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a light, yellowed beige with fine gold shimmer. Dior Cosmopolite (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Hourglass Surreal Light (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Jardin de Camelias (LE, $70.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Sephora Light Beam (02) (P, $14.00) is cooler, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty The Afternooner (Highlighter) (LE) is darker (90% similar). According to Dior, this holiday’s limited edition highlighter is supposed to give a “natural glow.” The powder is very soft and finely-milled, to the point that it gets powdery and the shimmer doesn’t seem as well-integrated with the base. I was worried about how this would apply after I had swatched it, but it seemed to go on quite nicely and didn’t look powdery or dry on the skin (though I have normal skin at the moment). It also produced a noticeable sheen–far greater than the swatch would have you anticipating!–that didn’t emphasize pores. The powder blended well over the skin, and it wore well for seven and a half hours before fading. Worth repeating, but this is very, very similar to Cosmopolite while the holiday iteration just reads more shimmery when applied to the face.

Dior Diorkiss, Fashion Night, Be Dior Dior Addict Lipsticks

Dior Diorkiss (578) Dior Addict Lipstick
Dior Diorkiss (578) Dior Addict Lipstick

Dior Dior Addict Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) was recently reformulated and relaunched for fall with a large variety of shades. I bought three to try, which are reviewed below. The updated formula is supposed to have “intense color” with a “long-lasting top coat” for greater shine and longer wear. I can only speak based on the three I tried, but the coverage is more semi-sheer to semi-opaque, lightweight and a little clingy, with natural shine. They wear three to four hours and are lightly hydrating. I was surprised to discover that they were unscented (and also had no taste), as I associate Dior lip products as usually being perfumed. The texture is more balm-like, and they soften as they melt against the warmth of the lips, but they never really drag or tug, even initially. I actually quite liked them as a lip product, but I was completely surprised that they weren’t marketed as more buildable/medium-coverage products, so if you like your lip color sheerer, you may like these, but if you were drawn in by the promise of intense or “high-impact” color, I’d look elsewhere.

Dior Diorkiss (578) Dior Addict Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft, medium rosy pink with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff that went on fairly evenly and smoothly, but it was nowhere near “intense” in coverage. The color lasted for three hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Tarte Punch (LE, $16.00) is warmer, more pigmented, brighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Fiend (DC, $22.00) is glossier, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cary (P, $35.00) is glossier, more pigmented, darker (90% similar). Tarte Tulip (P, $16.00) is warmer, brighter (85% similar). Surratt Beauty Perfectionniste (P, $34.00) is glossier, warmer, brighter (85% similar). MAC Out for Passion (LE, $20.00) is warmer (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Infamous (228) (P, $30.00) is less glossy, more pigmented, lighter (90% similar). MAC Mystical (LE, $17.00) is glossier, better quality, warmer (85% similar). Bite Beauty Hazelnut (P, $28.00) is less glossy, more pigmented, lighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dior Fashion Night (881) Dior Addict Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark berry pink with lighter fuchsia and violet pearl. It had semi-sheer color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly with a light shine. There was subtle shimmer that was fine and never felt gritty, but it was still noticeable on. The color lasted for four hours on me, and it was moderately hydrating while worn. Surratt Beauty Glitterati (P, $36.00) is warmer (90% similar). Estee Lauder Intriguing (P, $30.00) is less glossy, warmer, less shimmery (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) (DC, $30.00) is more pigmented, lighter, less shimmery (90% similar). Colour Pop Tiger (P, $5.00) is brighter, lighter, less shimmery (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Bitter Grape (P, $39.00) is more pigmented, darker (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Alasdhair (LE, $35.00) is more pigmented, darker, more shimmery (85% similar). Chanel Erik (456) (P, $37.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Boyfriend Stealer (LE, $17.00) is cooler, darker (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Otranto (LE, $55.00) is lighter, more shimmery (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dior Be Dior (976) Dior Addict Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, pinky-red with very subtle, fine fuchsia pearl. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that noticeably tinted the lips but allowed a lot of the natural lip color to come through. The shimmer is subtle, as is the shine. On me, this lasted for four hours, but the shine was gone after two hours, so this ended up looking more like a soft stain. Colour Pop Peacocky (DC, $5.00) is less glossy, cooler, darker (95% similar). Revlon Sorbet (P, $7.49) is cooler, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Etienne (446) (P, $37.00) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel Suspense (P, $37.00) is warmer, brighter, lighter (90% similar). Guerlain Illusion (660) (LE, $37.00) is lighter, more shimmery (90% similar). Guerlain Red Teddy (021) (P, $32.00) is lighter (85% similar). Revlon Whimsical (115) (P, $8.99) is glossier, brighter, lighter (85% similar). Revlon Flirtatious (125) (P, $8.99) is glossier, brighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
