Dior Golden Reflections (046) Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Golden Reflections (046) Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 for 0. 21 oz.) is a limited edition palette that features five shades ranging from gray to gold to beige. I think Dior does interesting color combinations at times, but I find that too often the quality of their eyeshadows is lacking. If you prefer a softer, sheerer, more muted look out of shades like these, you may enjoy this palette. If you want more true-to-pan color, I would skip.

5 Creamy, Red Lipglosses for the Holidays

‘Tis the season for red lips–or at least, that’s often how it feels–so how about a top five of creamy, glossy reds? (For this one, I specifically wanted to highlight shimmer-free shades.) What are your must-haved reds?

  1. Dior Vie d’Enfer (869) — medium, blue-based red
  2. Laura Mercier Poppy — a bold,, medium red with orange undertones
  3. Milani Red My Lips — a bright, neutral red
  4. Maybelline Signature Scarlet — a warm red
  5. MAC Russian Red — a blue-based red cream

Dior Mirror (621) Fusion Mono Long-Wear Eyeshadow

Dior Mirror (621) Fusion Mono Long-Wear Eyeshadow ($31.00 for 0.22 oz.) is described as a “shimmering gold.” It’s a pale, muted light-medium gold with warm undertones and a sparkly, metallic finish. LORAC Cashmere (LE) is very similar. LORAC Sand (LE) is similar. LORAC Opal (LE) is lighter. Hello Kitty Bright (LE) is lighter. Dior Pied de Poule #2 (P) is lighter. Make Up For Ever D416 Crystalline Yellow (P, $21.00) is a touch lighter. Chanel Tisse Gabrielle #2 (P) is very similar. MAC Cool Companions #1 (LE) is more glittery. YSL Saharienne #2 (P) is lighter. Dior Gold Rain (164) & Pink Excess (663) Addict Gloss

Dior Gold Rain (164) Addict Gloss ($29.50 for 0.21 fl. oz.) is a sheer, white gold with light-medium gold shimmer and sparkle. It lasts for two and a half hours, though the lightweight, non-sticky, creamy consistency meant it was very comfortable and nicely hydrating during that time. The formula is supposed to be a sheerer, lightweight, hydrating, and high-shine gloss, and Dior delivers–it’s a matter of whether sheer is your thing (or not). MAC Pussywillow (LE, $15.00) is darker. Bobbi Brown Rose (LE, $24.00) is less golden. Guerlain Gold Tchlack (P, $30.00) has a clearer base. Dior Lame Gold (LE, $28.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Dior Holiday 2014 Diorific Vernis Nail Enamels

Dior Golden Shock (001) Diorific Top Coat ($28.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a clear top coat with gold leaf. It’s certainly fun and festive, but it requires fishing and some maneuvering to get the gold flakes to appear just-so on the nails. The cap on the Diorific polishes makes this a little more difficult, but the degree of difficulty will depend on how large your fingers are. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Dior Gold Shock (001) Diorific Illuminating Pressed Powder

Dior Gold Shock (001) Diorific Illuminating Pressed Powder ($80.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a highlighter “infused with golden yellow shimmer.” It’s a yellow gold with gold shimmer and slight sparkle. Becca Champagne Gold (P, $38.00) is very similar, just more shimmery and more gold than yellow, but applied, they’re similar (just Becca is way better). Cle de Peau Gold (12) (P, $55.00) is lighter. Giorgio Armani No. 04 (P, $59.00) is a liquid. Chanel Routes des Indes de Chanel Illuminating Powder (LE, $80.00) is lighter. bareMinerals The Shining Moment (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery. Bobbi Brown Party (LE, $42.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
