Forget diamonds! This winter China Glaze introduces a nail industry first: utilizing 3-D glitters in its new “Eye Candy” collection. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe and her timeless allure, this innovative new glitter technology provides a knock-your-eyes-out, super sparkly effect to your manicure. Multi-sized and differently shaped glitter particles are cleverly combined to create a sexy, super decadent, 3-D finish in six bright, eye-popping shades. Whether you prefer gleaming gold or glamorous smoky grey, China Glaze’s “Eye Candy” collection adds a dazzling finish to your holiday look with a glimmer that is sure to catch everyone’s eye! Colors in this collection include:
Love Marilyn Vivacious red with shimmering silver particles
China Glaze Ring in the Red, Champagne Bubbles, Tinsel Town, and Snow Globe Nail Lacquers
China Glaze Let It Snow: Ring in the Red, Champagne Bubbles, Tinsel Town, Snow Globe
China Glaze Let it Snow contains twelve shades that can be purchased individually or in various pre-made sets. In this post, we’re looking at these four shades: Ring in the Red (glittering red), Champagne Bubbles (sophisticated gold metallic), Tinsel Town (silver, metallic glitter), and Snow Globe (frosty white with flecks of snowy color). I’ll have the other eight shades swatched, photographed, and posted soon!
Ring in the Red is a pinky-red with ruby red shimmer and larger, darker red glitter. It was opaque in two coats. Nubar Fire Sparkle is the closest dupe I could think of, but it seems to be a little darker and more of an orange-toned red. Zoya Lisa is more of a blue-based red but less glittery.
Champagne Bubbles is a brightened, yellow gold with a subtle metallic finish and gold glitter sparkle. It was opaque in two coats. It does have a metallic finish, so brush strokes are more noticeable here, but they were manageable and with a steadier (and more patient) hand, you could get them to look fairly straight. Milani 3D was the closest shade — it’s not quite as yellowy and has holographic glitter.
Tinsel Town is a sooty gray-black base color with lots of silver glitter in small and larger particle size. It was opaque in two coats. I don’t have anything that looks like this; it looks like silver rocks on my nails or something. Nubar Midnight is silver shimmer over a black base, but it just doesn’t have the same effect on nails.
Snow Globe is a sheer color base with multi-colored glitter in gold, aqua, green, blue, and purple. I did just two coats for swatches. Snow Globe has a thicker, more gel-like consistency (but not as thick as some glitters). It’s very similar to MAC Unconditionally Fabulous, and to a lesser degree, Deborah Lippmann Stairway to Heaven.
The official color descriptions for these shades really did not do them justice! I would not have envisioned these shades based on how they were described in the press release (they’re better!). The consistency of the formulas here were good; not too thick or too thin. Snow Globe was the only one that didn’t fit that bill–it had a thicker, more gel-like texture because it’s glitter suspended in a clear base (and the thicker consistency seems to help the glitter spread better). I typically get a week of wear out of China Glaze with minimal tip wear, and I recently tested out Blue Year’s Eve with Snow Globe on top and was able to achieve those results yet again!
Glittery polishes are always harder to remove, and these are no exception (patience and a good remover are key!), they're well worth the extra effort! I felt like Tinsel Town was the most unique and Snow Globe the most fun.

Want a SPOOKTACULAR manicure? I couldn’t resist. I just had the chance to play with the Halloween kit, which contains one real color shade, two layering coats, and China Glaze’s Fast Forward Top Coat. I bought the other new color shades but am waiting for them to arrive still (boo, west coast!). The kit I have includes the top coat but there’s one available at Sally’s ($12.99) that also includes Cross Iron 360 instead of the top coat.
It’s Alive is a blackened-olive green base with murky olive green micro-glitter and larger particle glitter. I like how the base color looks like a pool of murkiness–I think the play of really light color compared to the base creates that effect. I only needed two coats for opaque color, and the formula was easy to work with; not too thick or thin, good flow, and coverage. It is rather different from Zombie Zest, actually–darker and glittery.
Ghoulish Glow is a glow-in-the-dark top coat, which does really glow when the lights are all off. I didn’t like it much layered over It’s Alive; it gave It’s Alive a muted, washed-out quality and when I turned off the lights, it didn’t look significantly different than if I had just painted my nails with the top coat itself. I’d say if you want a day and night look, it’s not a bad compromise to layer, because when it’s worn alone, it’s not exactly the prettiest shade (an off-white). I had good results with both one and two coats of it (alone), but, as my boyfriend pointed out, it glows better if you let it soak up some light first.
Black Mesh is old news, but it’s a black crackling top coat. It crackled in large chunks and pieces when I did it over It’s Alive. I don’t feel like there is much to say on it; it crackled and dried quickly to a matte finish (so use a top coat for shine). It does have a cool effect over Ghoulish Glow, but I’d recommend doing two coats of Ghoulish Glow underneath and then layering Black Mesh on top.
It’s a fun set! I really liked It’s Alive’s formula and am happy to be able to report back on Ghoulish Glow… actually glowing. I attempted photos of it, but let’s just not revisit that–it was an exercise in futility and “this is so not worth it” amongst many expletives.
Don't you want a BOO-tiful manicure for Halloween? What, no room for Halloween puns? The formula of It's Alive is amazing--one of the best China Glazes I've used, and I love their formula already--and Ghoulish Glow actually glows-in-the-dark!

Whether a look is dark and mysterious, or bold and dramatic, China Glaze’s HAUNTING collection pulls together any ensemble and will undoubtedly make heads turn – just like China Glaze’s celebrity followers (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicole Ritchie and Dita Von Teese, to name a few)! Colors in this collection include:
Haunting Shadowy black with shimmering silver glitter
Crimson Deep purple crème with a hint of blood red
Near Dark Rich mossy green crème
It’s Alive Vibrant green glitter
Ghoulish Glow Glow-in-the-Dark top coat
Black Mesh Crackle Glaze top coat for a cobweb-like crackle effect
I spent some time with the lovely people who work on China Glaze, and they had a TON of goodies on display that we’ll be seeing over the next few months.
Just in time for Halloween, China Glaze has the Haunting Collection, which features Crimson, Haunting, It’s Alive, Near Dark, Ghoulish Glow (which glows-in-the-dark), and Black Mesh.
For the holidays, we’ll see a collection called Let It Snow. China Glaze has several polish sets that also include another goody (like a pair of finger-less gloves), but you can also purchase the shades individually. We’ll be seeing: Twinkle Lights (multi-colored glitter), Champagne Bubbles (gold), Holly-Day (dark green), Glittering Garland (green), Velvet Bow (ruby red), Winter Berry (red), Ring in the Red (glittery red), Poinsettia (red), Blue Year’s Eve (blue), Tinsel Town (silver glitter), Icicle (silver), and Snow Globe (multi-colored glitter). Also, in November, we’ll see six shades of glitter shades come out in Eye Candy, including such shades as Material Girl, Marry a Millionaire, Some Like It Haute.
Next spring, we’ll see Electropop Brights and Lights–together, they form a rainbow of creamy colors, though there is one glittery shade. The Brights Collection includes Techno, Aquadelic, Sunshine Pop, Gaga for Green, Make Some Noise, and Wicked Style. The Lights Collection includes Fuchsia Fanatic, Dance Baby, Electric Beat, Kinetic Candy, Sweet Hook, and Gothic Lolita.
