Buxom Swinger Full-Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Swinger Full-Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Swinger Full-Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “vivid magenta.” It’s a cool-toned, blue-based magenta–it’s a mix of fuchsia and purple, but I would say it leans closer to purple than fuchsia (but still not a true purple!). It has a creamy, luminous finish. Urban Decay Anarchy and Maybelline Electric Fuchsia are pinker. Maybelline Hot Plum is darker. MAC Dear Diary is slightly brighter, more matte. MAC Night Blooming is purpler. MAC Candy Yum Yum is brighter. See comparison swatches.

The consistency is so lovely–creamy with slip but not so much slip that it just slides around. It stays in place, doesn’t bleed or feather during the six hours it wears (and it stains a bit fuchsia for another hour or so), and is such a comfortable, nicely hydrating formula to wear. The glossy finish gives lips a really plump, luscious look. Swinger is fully opaque with little product needed in order to achieve full color coverage.  The formula is also unscented and has no taste, and as a little bonus, it’s a bit more product at 0.13 oz. than most lipsticks.

Swinger is yet another excellent shade in Buxom's Full-Bodied range! It's incredibly pigmented, long-wearing, and comfortable the entire time you have it on.

Buxom Provocateur Full Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Provocateur Full Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Provocateur Full Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “true red.” It’s a bold, brightened, medium red with very subtle pink undertones and that leans slightly blue. When I swatch it, I see slight blue undertones, but when applied–against my skin tone–it looks slightly warm-toned. Urban Decay F-Bomb is warmer. Edward Bess Eternal Passion is slightly muted. MAC Ronnie Red is bluer. Guerlain Garconne is darker. Dior Diorling is darker, more matte. Buxom Scoundrel is cooler-toned. Make Up For Ever #43 is more matte. See comparison swatches.

The finish is lightly glossy–a healthy sheen but not a full-on high-shine finish like a true gloss would have–and gives lips a smooth, plump look.  The consistency is lightly creamy and glides on with full color coverage in one stroke.  Provocateur wore well for six and a half hours, and it left behind a red stain that persisted for another two hours or so.  The formula is nicely hydrating and very comfortable to wear, and there was no scent or taste.

Buxom Scoundrel Full-Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Scoundrel Full-Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Scoundrel Full-Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “blue red.” It’s a medium-dark, blue-based red with cool undertones and a glossy finish. Edward Bess Eternal Passion is brighter. MAC Love Goddess is pinker. Guerlain Gwen is darker. Dior Marilyn is more matte. Chanel Rouge Byzantin is darker, less glossy. See comparison swatches.

One of the ways Scoundrel stands out from a sea of red lipsticks is the glossy sheen–it’s not a gloss, but it’s a very creamy, intensely pigmented red with a natural shine. It looks juicy and almost wet once applied, and the finish is just very flattering on the lips as it doesn’t look heavy, settle into lip lines, or emphasize any imperfections you may find on the lip. The formula is also nicely hydrating both during wear and after the colors wears off, and this shade lasted six and a half hours, plus a residual stain. Full-Bodied Lipsticks are quickly becoming one of my favorite lipstick formulas for creamy color.

Buxom Exhibitionist Full Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Exhibitionist Full Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Exhibitionist Full Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “bright fuchsia.” It’s a bold, brightened fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a luminous sheen. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia is lighter, cooler-toned. Revlon Lollipop is darker, more muted. Maybelline Fuchsia Flash is lighter. Maybelline Hot Plum is darker. MAC Pink Pigeon is slightly cooler-toned. MAC Embrace Me is more matte. See comparison swatches.

The pigmentation is rich and full coverage, while the consistency is creamy, not too thick or too thin, and glides on evenly without tugging or pulling at the lip.  The creamy, glossy finish gives lips a very lush, plump look.  It is very creamy, though, and while this is mostly a good thing, you can get very faint lines if you press your lips together–it’s not very noticeable with such a bright color like this, at least. Exhibitionist lasted five hours well on me, and then a light stain persisted for another hour and a half.  It felt nicely hydrating the entire time I wore it, and I didn’t feel the need to reach for balm for a couple of hours after this wore off.   It feels like a more expensive, luxury lipstick, despite it’s rather reasonable price tag (and it’s a bit bigger than your average lipstick at 0.13 oz.).

Buxom Runaway Full Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Runaway Full Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Runaway Full Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “rosy chestnut.” It is a rich, deepened plummy red with a glossy shine. MAC Sheer Plum is browner, less red. MAC Glamourdaze is less red, more plum. Chanel Imperial is slightly lighter and has some shimmer. See comparison swatches.

Runaway was rich with full color coverage in nearly a single stroke. The consistency is slightly thick (but not gummy or heavy), very creamy, and easy to apply. The formula sits really well on the lips and gives lips a plumper look because of the coverage and finish. I’ve really liked how nice Buxom’s Full Bodied lipsticks feel on, and they wear exceptionally well (though to be fair, all the shades I’ve tried so far are also darker/brighter shades that generally wear better than say a light pink or beige), with Runaway wearing well for five and a half hours.  It was nicely hydrating, and the lipstick had no scent or taste.

Buxom Rogue Full Bodied Lipstick
Buxom Rogue Full Bodied Lipstick

Buxom Rogue Full Bodied Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.13 oz.) is described as a “fiery coral.” It’s a brightened, bold, orange-red with a luminous sheen and strong, warm undertones. Maybelline Orange Edge is lighter. Maybelline Infra-red is slightly redder. Maybelline Vibrant Mandarin is a touch lighter. Maybelline Neon Red is a smidgen brighter. MAC Scarlet Ibis is matte. MAC Sail La Vie is more matte. OCC Psycho is matte. See comparison swatches.

It’s incredibly rich in color and yielded full color coverage in nearly one pass. The consistency is very creamy, though slightly thick (not as thick or as heavy as YSL’s Rouge Voluptes). Rogue glided over the lips without pulling or tugging. I thought I might have issues with the color feathering, because of the texture, but I didn’t have any issues with feathering or bleeding outside of the lip. This shade lasted six and a half hours on me, and it was lightly hydrating during that time. It’s also supposed to plump (“without the usual tingle”) using “encapsulated hyaluronic spheres” (which are also supposed to help hydrate). I didn’t notice any tingle, and I can be hyper-sensitive to lip plumpers, and my lips seemed fuller, but I couldn’t tell you if it was the plumping or simply the bolder color combined with a healthy shine. There was no scent or flavor to this lipstick.

It's a really good formula overall, but I think the thickness/creaminess of the lipstick may feel too heavy for some, while others will appreciate the coverage and hydration of the formula.
