Butter London Dodgy Barnett Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “highly holographic lacquer in a classic shade that blurs the line between grey and silver.” It looks like a soft, paled silver-gray shimmer suspended in a clear base, but it definitely has holographic shimmer as soon as the light catches it. The particles aren’t chunky or gritty, like glitter, but they’re a bit larger than shimmer. Milani HD is comparable–the particles are just larger and it has a more silver coloring.
I applied two coats, and it was noticeably sheer throughout. You could definitely get more opacity by layering on a third coat, or forego wearing it alone and use it layered over your favorite polish. The consistency, color payoff, and look were really comparable with Trustafarian. Dodgy Barnett is thin enough to be able to use three coats fairly comfortably; it won’t feel overly thick or take eons to dry. Butter London’s formula wears well on me, lasting a week or longer, with very minor tip wear and no chipping, whether used with a base/top coat or just the polish.
If you prefer using three coats, sheerer holographic polishes, or holographic polishes for layering, Dodgy Barnett may appeal to you! If you want something really opaque, you might want to keep looking.

Butter London Trustafarian Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “delightful sage green [with] a golden holographic finish.” It’s a subtly warmed up light-medium green with yellow undertones and holographic glitter. It reminds me of meadow-y greens for some reason, though I’m sure that brings up a totally different color in your mind! It’s a soft, pale green. Softer than sage but similar in some of the muted qualities of the color. Milani Hi-Tech is the only holographic green polish I could think of, but it’s much darker and less yellow-toned. Do you have any dupe suggestions?
Two coats wasn’t enough (which is what the swatches show)–it’s still noticeably sheer after two coats. I’d have suggest using a third coat if you really want this to sing, because it looks odd with the way it applies at two coats. The holographic shimmer is definitely noticeable as you move your fingers around, though–it’s not subtle or anything like that. If you like holographic shimmer and have always wanted it in a softer green, you might still check this out. Luckily, the consistency of the formula isn’t thick, so using three coats wouldn’t be problematic or impede the wear. I typically get a full week of wear out of Butter London’s polishes with very minor tip wear.
If it was opaque in two coats, I'd love this! Alas, it is still visibly sheer (and not just barely sheer) after two coats, which means it absolutely is a three-coater.

Butter London Lovely Jubbly Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant magenta nail lacquer flecked with red, blue, and gold micro-particles.” It’s a glittery extravaganza that features magenta, blue, and gold particles. I don’t have an extensive stash of glitter polishes, but I did go through what I could. China Glaze CG in the City is more of a gray-ish purple with not much else going on. Rescue Beauty Lounge Frugalista has magenta glitter, but the other accompanying glitter is silver. Milani Hi-Res was the most similar that I had, but it has a purple base with holographic glitter/shimmer.
It’s a rather opaque glitter, which I was totally keen on, just because layering can be fun, but sometimes you just want one polish and to be done! Swatches show the impact of two coats, which is mostly opaque. Three coats would really cinch it, but I think you can get away with two. The natural dry down is just a little shiny, but there is some texture due to the glitter content, so a thicker, shiny top coat is a must. I loved that the texture of this wasn’t at all thick; it didn’t have that almost gel-like consistency of a lot of glitter-filled polishes–it was normal, really. I typically get a full week of wear out of Butter London’s polishes with very minor tip wear.
This is such a fun polish! I love how versatile it is: you can use it as a layering polish with just one coat or go full-on glitz and get (mostly) opaque results in two coats.

Sequins! Velvet! Satin! Tweed! This season, the catwalks were abundant with rich texture! We’ve translated this to nails through the infusion of glitter particles and metallic and holographic fnishes. The colour tones speak to “earthiness” but are not specifically earth tones – think rust, shimmering greens, and silver. This collection feels future-forward but not futuristic. This season is all about using texture to add interest and depth to your look.
To celebrate the London 2012 Summer Olympics, butter LONDON introduces a Commemorative Olympic Heavy Medal Trio (MSRP $36 – available this month), a set of three metallic nail lacquers worthy of standing upon the winner’s podium – The Full Monty, Diamond Geezer and The Old Bill
The Full Monty Does what it says on the bottle. Full-on molten gold. A beautiful colour that is always classy, never brassy.
Diamond Geezer Proper platinum, silvery and shiny. It’s finger-bling that sparkles like the real thing, but doesn’t cost it!
The Old Bill Burnished bronze with a beautiful antique patina. For sophisticated metal heads.
