Benefit Milk It Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Milk It Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Milk It Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Milk It Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “pearly white.” It’s a neutral white with a pearly, metallic finish. There are a lot of similar white eyeshadows, but here were a few that I thought I’d mention specifically: Urban Decay Polyester Bride has a similar finish but is a touch less stark; bareMinerals Silhouette is less metallic; and NARS Self Portrait 2 is cooler-toned.

It had very good pigmentation, and it applied mostly opaquely when I was testing it, both on my arm as well as on the lid.  This shade had a really lovely, buttery and creamy consistency that helped it apply smoothly over the skin.  The finish is on the more metallic side, and frostier shades tend to be easier to blend, as this one was.  Depending on your skin tone, the metallic finish, combined with rich color payoff, may make this too stark, but the neutral undertone will help.  It lasted eight hours well on the lid, and after nine hours, there was very faint creasing (without a primer).

This shade can also be found in Benefit’s Sexiest Nudes Ever Palette, which contains four eyeshadows and two Creaseless Cream Shadows for $30.00 (the eyeshadows are 0.04 oz. each, and the cream eyeshadows are 0.11 oz. each, but it’s still a way better deal than buying this eyeshadow on its own unless you LOVE this one and loathe all the others).  I love the idea behind the palettes, and I think it’s great that they’re available individually, but the pricing/quantity is presenting an argument that’s difficult to ignore.

Benefit Pinky Swear Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Pinky Swear Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Pinky Swear Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Pinky Swear Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “soft matte pink.” It’s a pale pink with subtle cool undertones and a matte finish. Urban Decay Heartless is shimmery. NARS Bouthan #1 is very similar. bareMinerals Giddy is warmer. Inglot #319 is cooler-toned, brighter.

It had beautiful pigmentation when I swatched it initially, and on the lid, it was still good, but due to the very matte, slightly powdery texture, it tended to stick and absorb (like a blotting powder might). For that reason, the texture does better over a primer. Without a primer, it tends to look noticeably faded (and slightly darkened) after six hours.  I didn’t experience any creasing, even after eight hours of wear, though.

For reference, it also appears in Benefit’s Easiest Nudes Ever Palette–I make a point to mention that, because the palette itself is $30 but contains three other eyeshadows along with two Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows; more or less, unless you really hate the other products, it’s hard to justify $20 for one eyeshadow when you could be paying $30 and receiving six different products.

Benefit Pause for Applause Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Pause for Applause Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Pause for Applause Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Pause for Applause Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “soft lilac.” It’s a lightened, pinked lilac with a satin finish (and it almost looks matte, but there’s a very fine shimmer to it). Urban Decay Heartless is lighter, more firmly in the pink-colored camp. NARS Bouthan #1 has a matte finish, so it’s a bit closer, but it is lighter and pinker.

It seemed promising when I swatched it initially, because the color payoff was fairy good, but the texture was so soft that it turned dusty/powdery. The result when I applied it to the lid was that it was very, very prone to disappearing; it would sheer out too quickly and my lid just seemed to absorb the color. I’ve had this happen with eyeshadows that apply thinly and have a lot of powderiness to them; I feel like they act a bit like blotting powder on my eyelids! Over a primer, it was marginally better, but I still couldn’t get the color to look like it did on the pan–it looked faded and generally lighter. Without a primer, the wear was dismal–noticeable fading after a mere six hours.

For reference, it also appears in Benefit’s Sexiest Nudes Ever Palette–I make a point to mention that, because the palette itself is $30 but contains three other eyeshadows along with two Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows; more or less, unless you really hate the other products, it’s hard to justify $20 for one eyeshadow when you could be paying $30 and receiving six different products.

Benefit Nude Swings Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Nude Swings Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Nude Swings Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Nude Swings Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “rose gold.” It’s a warm beige with a hint of peach and a champagne sheen. I expect that it may look more like a rose gold, as listed, on those with pink undertones–against my warmer undertones, it loses the pink, but I do see a pink tinge to the color when I look at it in the pan. Cinderella Midnight Hour is less metallic and slightly pinker. L’Oreal Blinged & Brilliant is very similar but more metallic. MAC Naked Lunch is less metallic.

It had good pigmentation, though it could have been a bit denser and more buttery, so it could be a more versatile shade. As is, it forms a very thin layer that is mostly opaque. It does apply smoothly and evenly, and it sits nicely on the skin. It’s not quite metallic, but it has a high sheen to its finish, so it works well to brighten lids.
The color payoff is decent but not fully opaque. It had a slightly drier texture compared to other shades I’ve reviewed from the range, so it doesn’t apply as smoothly. It is, however, still soft to the touch and easy to blend out on the lid. When I wore Nude Swings, it lasted for seven hours well but was slightly faded and starting to crease after eight hours (no primer).

And good (bad?) news–this shade doesn’t appear to be included in any of Benefit’s World Famous Neutrals’ palettes, so it is only available individually.

Benefit Blingo Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Blingo Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Blingo Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Blingo Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “brilliant silver.” It’s a medium, silver-gray with a frosted, metallic finish. Silver eyeshadows are abundant, so there are numerous shades to choose from. The two closest were Urban Decay Oz (slightly darker) and L’Oreal Primped & Precious (more metallic).

The color payoff is decent but not fully opaque. It had a slightly drier texture compared to other shades I’ve reviewed from the range, so it doesn’t apply as smoothly. There was also a slight grittiness to the color; almost as if it had larger sparkle, which contributed to how it applied.  I did find that Blingo was still blendable on the lid, and though it had its share of problems, performed well enough over a base.  I was less enthused with it on its own, as it creased after seven hours (and these are Longwear eyeshadows).

Benefit Quick, Look Busy Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Quick, Look Busy Longwear Powder Eyeshadow
Benefit Quick, Look Busy Longwear Powder Eyeshadow

Benefit Quick, Look Busy Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “matte espresso.” It’s a dark, subtly red-toned brown with a matte finish. MAC Carbonized is similar in color, but it is frosted. bareMinerals Foreshadow is cooler-toned. MAC Swiss Chocolate is warmer. MAC Brown Down is very comparable. Inglot #329 is less red-toned. Make Up For Ever #162 has a stronger red undertone.

The texture was soft, slightly powdery, and the resulting color payoff was just so-so to decent. It was semi-opaque when I initially swatched, and then when I tried applying it to the lid, it was more buildable. It’s very blendable, though, and it is easy to sheer out and harder to keep at full coverage on the lid–you have to be very precise and only blend around the outer edges of the color. It was noticeably faded after seven hours, but I didn’t experience any creasing without a primer.
