Becca Valentina Sheer Tint Lip Colour

Launched with the Balearic Love Collection for the spring, Becca Valentina Sheer Tint Lip Colour ($24.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “nude pink.” I have to disagree on the description–there’s nothing about this that says “nude.” It’s a medium petal pink with a subtle frosted finish and healthy shine. Guerlain Rose Ensoleille is a bit pinker. Guerlain Bloom of Rose is rosier, a little less warm-toned. Chanel Paradis is a touch less warm. Guerlain Cherry Blossom is warmer.

If you’re unfamiliar with this formula, Becca says it’s supposed to be sheer, hydrating, and is finished with a subtle shine. It has a burnt brown sugar scent to me–lightly sweetened, not too over-the-top–but I didn’t detect any taste. The consistency is soft, smooth, and lightweight; the texture is more akin to a lip balm than a lipstick. It doesn’t have the heavier slip that a lot of sheer and moisturizing lipsticks have, which is nice. It hangs on for about three hours and fades away naturally and evenly.

With this particular shade (which is the only one I’ve tried), the color coverage is semi-sheer to semi-opaque depending on how heavily you apply it. I like that there’s enough color to noticeably change your natural lip color but there’s no heavy or opaque look, so it retains a softer, more natural appearance. I love how moisturizing the formula, is, too–not quite as luxurious as a true lip balm, but it’s very close! It’s definitely one of the more moisturizing products I’ve come across.

It’s packaged in a metal case with an interesting clicking mechanism where you actually have to twist the lid to lock it in place.  If you often tote your lip products around with you and find caps come off, you might like this type of packaging!  It will hold fingerprints, even though metal cases always feel more luxurious and look more elegant! Ah, the game of packaging is riddled with trade-offs.

Becca Majorca Automatic Eye Pencil

Becca Majorca Automatic Eye Pencil ($23.00 for 0.013 oz.) is described as an “intense black.” The formula is supposed to have intense pigmentation, be long-wearing, waterproof, and smudge-proof. The level of intensity is pretty good; it’s definitely a rich black–not a soft black here–but there are more intense blacks on the market. It is a cool-toned black, which means it doesn’t have any brown tones to it.

I really wanted to like the formula, because it feels very creamy going on–it applies easily with a nice glide across the lash line that never pulls or tugs–but it just doesn’t last for me. It migrates and smudges faintly below where I’ve put it after four hours or so. If you love an eyeliner that stays creamy and is incredibly smudge-able, this might be a formula you’d want to work with, but for long-wearing, stay-put eyeliner, not so much. As far as waterproofing goes, it doesn’t dissolve into tracks of gray-black down your face instantly, but it does breakdown a bit and smudges further.

Becca has usually been a quiet but well-done brand in my experience, but this product really fell flat for me. I’m definitely curious to hear if others had better results! I feel like maybe it’s just me, because the brand has nailed so many formulas, it’s hard to believe they’d put out such a disappointing eyeliner.

Becca Damselfly Mineral Blush ($32.00 for 0.20 oz.) is described as a “bright coral.” It’s more like a muted coral-orange with a warm, golden sheen. It’s a bit like MAC My Paradise but softer, less orange. Make Up For Ever #153 is pinker, more shimmery. MAC Marine Life is slightly pinker with less of a golden sheen.

Becca’s Mineral Blushes are supposed to “impart natural, luminous color” with a long-wearing formula that never looks cakey or chalky. It delivers a healthy amount of pigmentation with very little product, but it’s not so intense that you need to be extra careful when applying. The texture of this is so, so finely milled; it’s silky smooth and extremely soft. It has more of a sheen than a shimmer, so it produces a soft, lit-from-within glow on cheeks while adding natural warmth. This is a blush that is particularly flattering on warmer skin tones, as it looks natural but still gives a nice flush. The formula wears well, too; it lasts just over eight hours for me and still looks decent at nine hours, but there’s a definite fading by the tenth hour.

	It's soft, glowy, and natural but not so natural that it's barely visible--you can apply it with a light hand for a delicate sheen, normally for a little warmth and color, or heavily for a more coral-orange color.

Becca Tangerine Dream Nail Lacquer

Becca Tangerine Dream Nail Lacquer ($15.00 for 0.51 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright sunset coral.” It originally debuted in last summer’s Halcylon Days collection (yes, really, I’m that behind!). It’s still available within a very limited color range of polishes (six, to be exact).

It’s mostly orange, but there’s a tinge of coral to it.  MAC Oriele Orange is more orange, deeper. China Glaze Life Preserver is darker, redder. SpaRitual Love & Happiness is redder. China Glaze High Hopes is more coral, redder.

The color applied evenly and easily without streaking or bubbling, and Tangerine Dream was opaque in two coats (almost one coat–I did just one coat on the pinky so you could see; OK, more because I forgot!). When I tested out the wear of this particular shade (first Becca polish for me!), it wore really well. I will caution you that I can’t think of a brand of polish that does chip on me; they all wear to varying degrees of tip wear. I had minor tip wear after seven days but no other issues. It wasn’t too thick or thin and flowed well across the nail. A nice touch is that the bottle cap is rubberized, so it’s easy to grip and open.
