bareMinerals The Magic Touch Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals The Magic Touch Eyeshadow Duo

bareMinerals The Magic Touch Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) contains a light and medium-dark shade for a quick and easy eye that can be created with just these two shades. They’re easily combined with other eyeshadows in your stash, but they worked well together as a duo. Both shades were easy to use, good quality, and long-wearing. As a heads up, Presto was featured in a limited edition holiday gift set last year (see my post here); Flicker was featured in a holiday palette from 2012 (which I don’t recall reviewing).

Presto is described as a “cool champagne sheen.” It’s a golden champagne with subtle warm undertones and a pearly sheen. I kind of get what they mean by “cool champagne,” but it’s still a warmer shade. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth texture that was blendable and lasted for eleven hours before creasing slightly. YSL Saharienne #1 (P) is lighter. Chanel Quadrille #2 (LE) is more beige. MAC Greenluxe #1 (P) is lighter. MAC Shroom (P, $15.00) is more beige, darker. MAC Ricepaper (P, $15.00) is similar. MAC Femme-Fi (LE, $15.00) is lighter. Estee Lauder Halo (P, $24.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Flicker is described as an “antique bronze.” It’s an earthy, olive brown with a subtle green sheen. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft and dense, though it was just a bit powdery. It wore well for almost twelve hours before fading. MAC Olive Blend #3 (LE) is cooler-toned. Too Faced Buche de Noel (LE, $16.00) is darker. Urban Decay Stash (LE, $18.00) is greener. Dior Bonne Etoile (384) #3 (LE) is darker. MAC Sumptuous Olive (P, $15.00) is slightly greener. MAC Fiction (DC, $15.00) is darker. Dior Khaki Design #3 (P) is greener. bareMinerals Eureka (P) is darker, greener. bareMinerals Speaker Box (LE) is darker. Make Up For Ever #148 (DC, $20.00) is less shimmery. Inglot #419 (P, $6.00) is greener. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

bareMinerals The Covert Affair Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals The Covert Affair Eyeshadow Duo

bareMinerals The Covert Affair Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) contains two shades that pair well together but are also more complex, a bit more unique than your average eyeshadow. The best of the Ready formula shines through this duo with both shades having a soft, buttery texture that feels like silk, blends out effortlessly, and wears really well.

Air is described as a “satin taupe.” It’s a light-medium beige with a hint of gray/brown in it and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff that had a very soft, buttery consistency and blended easily. The color wore well for eleven hours before fading slightly. MAC Fashion Beat (LE, $15.00) is darker. LORAC Navy #5 (LE) is darker, less shimmery. bareMinerals Ginger Sugar (LE, $14.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Catch Me If… is described as a “rich mauve.” It’s a medium-dark, plum with a warm, golden shimmer that almost gives a metallic finish to the shade. It has a more unique finish, because it has strong, plum colors but then a strong golden sheen that seems like it goes on top like an overlay. It was intensely pigmented with a very soft, creamy texture that felt like butter. This shade didn’t show any fading until after eleven hours of wear. NARS Dolomites (Left) (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery. Sleek MakeUP Eve’s Kiss (P, $9.99) is lighter. MAC Great Beyond #1 (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical #1 (P) is darker, cooler-toned. Laura Mercier African Violet (P, $23.00) is lighter. Makeup Geek Twilight (P, $5.99) is warmer. MAC Performance Art (LE, $15.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

bareMinerals The Big Debut Eyeshadow Duo
bareMinerals The Big Debut Eyeshadow Duo

bareMinerals The Big Debut Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.09 oz.) is one of six new additions to the brand’s duo range. Long-time readers might remember that I’m a huge fan of the Ready formula, so I always yearn for even more shades. The Big Debut works well for a two-shade look, as one is more shimmery than the other, and there is nice contrast, yet the two easily blend together. It was a good duo overall, though the shades weren’t perfect (and this formula can get to perfect).

Future is described as a “sunset pink.” It’s a light-medium, peachy-pink with a golden, metallic sheen. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft, buttery, and smooth. On me, the color wore well for eleven hours before fading. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P) is slightly darker, less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #1 (P) is more beige. bareMinerals Ball Gown (LE) is darker, less pink. MAC Artistic License (LE, $15.00) is pinker, less shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #2 (LE) is less peach. theBalm Third Eye Blinded (P, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Say, Yeah! (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. bareMinerals Custom Made (LE) is pinker, less peach, more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Center Stage is described as a “deep plum.” It’s a muted, blackened purple with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had so-so color payoff, though it seemed buildable when I used it on the eye. The texture was soft, slightly powdery but not difficult to use (easy to blend), and the color wore well for eleven hours before fading. Too Faced Jungle Love (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery. MAC Indigo Blend #3 (LE) is warmer. bareMinerals In Vogue (LE) is brighter. bareMinerals Starry Night (LE, $14.00) is more shimmery. Disney by Sephora Wonder by Wonder (LE) is warmer. NARS Demon Lover #2 (P, $24.00) is similar. MAC Spellcaster (LE, $15.00) is similar. Lancome Zip Me Up (P, $19.00) is more shimmery. Giorgio Armani Green Jacquard #4 (LE) is brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

bareMinerals Comfort Zone Ready Eyeshadow Quad
bareMinerals Comfort Zone Ready Eyeshadow Quad

bareMinerals Comfort Zone Ready Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a QVC-exclusive palette that features four, more neutral-themed shades. I wish there was at least one more contrasting, darker shade in this, because the light-medium nature of all four makes them run together on the lid. The quality is fairly good, though not a slam dunk (and many of bareMinerals’ quads are), but I don’t think this is as versatile as it could be–I tried a few different pairings/combinations, and they were all very similar once applied. If it’s the type of look you wear all the time, I think it would be worth checking out, but if you want to have a few combinations at the ready (ha, ha), this one might not be the right match for you.

Aaah is described as a “blushing ivory.” It’s a brightened, light pink with cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was incredibly soft, finely-milled, and buttery without being powdery with intense color. It wore well for ten hours on me before fading. MAC Flounce (P, $15.00) is darker. Too Faced Powdered Sugar (LE, $16.00) is warmer. LORAC Light Pink (P) is darker. theBalm Matt Chung (LE, $16.00) is similar. NARS Douce France #1 (LE, $24.00) is similar. Benefit Pinky Swear (P, $20.00) is darker, pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Solace is described as a “honey-beige.” It’s a muted, yellowed beige with a satin finish. It had good color payoff, while the texture was soft and smooth. On me, the color lasted for ten hours. theBalm #29 (P, $6.50) is lighter. Burberry Pale Nude #3 (P) is much lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Enjoy is described as a “rosy nude.” It’s a muted, light-medium peach with a satin finish and warm undertones. It had good pigmentation, and while the texture was blendable and soft, it was slightly powdery. This shade showed signs of fading after nine hours of wear. theBalm #4 (P, $6.50) is more shimmery, pinker. Too Faced Spike the Punch (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Her Cocoa #2 (LE, $15.00) is similar. bareMinerals Peace (P) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Tranquil is described as a “soft stone.” It’s a light, gray-leaning taupe with a satin sheen. It had decent color payoff, but it was sheerer than the other shades. The texture was soft without being powdery, while the color lasted for nine and a half hours on me. Dior Rivage #2 (LE) is cooler-toned. Tom Ford Beauty Ice Queen #3 (P) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I love colorful eyeshadows, and there have been some interesting palettes that have released over the years! If you’re in the market for something that’s not just neutrals, you may want to check out some of these. Too Faced Pretty Rebel and Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren both deserve honorable mentions; two of my favorites, but they are limited edition. I try to make these lists stand the test of time and avoid limited edition inclusions, but at this moment, both palettes are still available for purchase if they interest you. For now :)

  1. Sugarpill Cold Chemistry — a set of four, cool-toned shades
  2. bareMinerals The Elements — beige, orange, green, and blue for a particularly unique color combination
  3. Urban Decay Electric — for bold, bright near-neons
  4. Tarina Tarantino Fantastical — if you love purple, this one’s for you
  5. Sleek Sunset — bright golds, yellows, and coppers
