QVC’s Truth or Dare Beauty Event is going on now, which has various products at special prices, but I also spied this new palette from bareMinerals…  so, you know, I had to share (and also buy) :)

Here are some of my personal recommendations for eye products to pick up while Sephora’s offering 15% off! Beauty Insiders use code TICKET, VIBs use code VIBTICKET, and Rouges use code ROUGETICKET. :) Feel free to share your recommendations for other readers to try!

  1. Urban Naked Palettes (review) if you’re a big fan of various hues of neutrals that tend to lean more shimmery. I’ve enjoyed all three palettes enormously, and I usually take one along with me when I travel. (Pictured: Naked3)
  2. Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eyeshadow Palette (review) is one of the best eyeshadow palettes ever–perfect if you love rich, pigmented eyeshadows with frosted finishes.
  3. bareMinerals Power Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette (review) is a nice option for a neutral palette with a variety of finishes.
  4. Sephora 10 Shades of Samba Set (review) has ten shades of one of my favorite eyeliner formulas (Sephora’s Eye Contour Pencils) in several colorful hues. (Pictured: Romantic Comedy)
  5. NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (review) is my very favorite eyeshadow primer–colorless, works well across brands and finishes, and keeps my eyeshadow on extra long.
  6. Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadows (review) are my newest favorite for cream eyeshadows! So versatile, long-wearing, and sparkling. (Pictured: Hypnotique)
  7. Marc Jacobs Intro(vert) Highliner (review) is an eyeliner I get complimented on all the time–it’s a cooler-toned, brighter teal that is harder to dupe.
  8. Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2 (review) is a set of eight full-sized eyeliners from black to teal–I’m constantly reaching for the shades in this one–and bonus, it comes with Grind House as well!
  9. Urban Decay Grind House (review) is my go-to for all my eyeliner sharpening needs!
  10. Marc Jacobs Brow Tamer (review) works nicely to keep brows in place without giving them a hard, crunchy feeling. I just picked up my second one this time around, actually!

Choosing my top ten favorite palettes from the ones I tested and reviewed in 2013 was a lot more difficult than I anticipated! To give you an idea on how stiff the competition was, there were 128 reviews filed under “makeup palettes,” so you can see there were plenty to choose from! (And if you were curious, I have 1,261 posts filed under “reviews,” and the majority of those posts feature more than one shade, for the past year.) I considered which ones gave me warm, fuzzy feelings, that were high quality, and that I could really reach for over and over again. With those things in mind, here are my favorites…

What were your favorite palettes that you tried this past year?

bareMinerals Swoon Blush
bareMinerals Swoon Blush

bareMinerals Swoon Blush ($19.00 for 0.03 oz.) is described as a “petal pink satin.” It’s a light-medium, pink-coral with a matte finish. Fyrinnae Nordic Angel (P, $6.50) is warmer, slightly more orange. MAC Lured to Love (LE, $25.00) is lighter.MAC Passion for Colour (LE, $21.00) is a touch warmer. Edward Bess Secret Affair (P, $43.00) is darker. MAC Supercontinental (LE, $21.00) is pinker, less matte. Burberry Blossom (P, $42.00) is several shades darker. See comparison swatches.

The texture was soft, silky, and very finely-milled. When applied to the skin, it blends beautifully–no harsh edges, no powderiness, just soft color. It had good color payoff, though it is a more buildable blush than it is incredibly intense from the get-go. I wore it on a couple of days ago, and it wore well for almost eight hours–just slight fading but no patchiness. This shade is part of the spring True Romantic collection, and it is new and limited edition.

bareMinerals Heartbreaker Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss
bareMinerals Heartbreaker Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss

bareMinerals Heartbreaker Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss ($18.00 for 0.15 fl. oz.) is described as a “peony pink.” It’s a light-medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a fine gold shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage with noticeabe translucency that enabled the natural lip color to come through. I noticed that was some very faint settling into lip lines. It had a light-to-medium-weight texture that was non-sticky and lasted for three hours. It was somewhat hydrating while worn. MAC Floating Lotus (LE, $20.00) is darker. Chanel Caprice (LE, $32.00) is similar. Chanel Confidence (P, $32.00) is pinker. Bobbi Brown Pink Sorbet (P, $24.00) is a bit lighter, less warm-toned. See comparison swatches.

bareMinerals Feel the Love Marvelous Moxie Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “caramel rose pink.” It’s a muted, rosy coral with a soft, luminous sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightweight, creamy, and easy to apply. The color lasted well for four hours and was nicely hydrating while worn. MAC Runway Hit (LE, $16.00) is lighter, matte. Urban Decay Liar (P, $22.00) is darker, slightly warmer. Chanel Interlude (P, $34.00) is lighter. NARS Dolce Vita (P, $25.00) is darker, matte. NARS Montego Bay (P, $26.00) is pinker. MAC Style Surge (P, $22.00) is warmer, more orange. MAC Razzledazzler (LE, $16.00) is warmer. MAC Ever Hip (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Buxom Two-Timer (P, $21.00) is warmer, darker. Burberry Devon Sunset (P, $30.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

bareMinerals The True Romantic Eyeshadow Quad
bareMinerals The True Romantic Eyeshadow Quad

bareMinerals The True Romantic Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new and limited edition palette for spring. I had really good wear with the palette on the whole with all shades reaching nine ahours with ease, and then some lasting as long as nearly ten hours. One shade was surprisingly sheer (Woo is Me) for the Ready formula, so that was a disappointment. The color payoff of the other three shades was good to great.  When worn, the palette ended up being rather warm-toned, so if you tend to prefer cooler tones, this will be an easy skip.  The colors complement each other, though, and for someone who likes warmer, peachy/orange eyeshadows, this may work well.

Love It is described as a “light mint shimmer.” It’s a very pale, pale white with, at most, a green tint, but it looks mostly like a cool-toned white with a soft, frosted finish. It had fairly good color payoff, and while the texture was soft and finely-milled, it was slightly powdery. MAC Chill (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. Disney by Sephora Midnight Hour #1 (LE) is more shimmery, brighter. theBalm Metal-ica (P, $16.00) is slightly darker. MAC Flawless Figure (LE, $15.00) is a bit whiter. MAC Crystal Avalanche (P, $15.00) is similar. Chanel Promesse #4 (LE) is greener. bareMinerals Sensational (LE) is also greener. bareMinerals Five Star (LE) is similar–no green tinge at all, though. See comparison swatches.

Woo is Me is described as an “apricot pink sheen.” It’s a light-medium, yellow with a goldenrod undertone and a soft, pink frosted sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, and the texture was soft but a little chunky. Urban Decay X (P, $18.00) is warmer. Le Metier de Beaute Nouvelle (LE, $30.00) is less yellow. Dior Golden Flower #1 (LE) is similar. Kat Von D Smile Now (LE) is yellower. MAC Artistic License (LE, $15.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Louder is described as a “burnished copper.” It’s a rich, warm-toned copper with strong, orange undertones and a metallic finish. It was incredibly pigmented, and it had a very dense, soft texture but could have been a little smoother. A little went a long way with this shade. Louder has been featured in The Playlist (a limited edition palette). It’s a particular hue that is done often by brands, so there is no shortage of near-dupes. See comparison swatches.

Head Over Heels is described as a “warm slate.” It’s a medium-dark, taupe with subtle warm undertones and a matte finish. It’s extremely pigmented, and the texture was soft, blendable but not powdery. MAC Smoked Cocoa #2 (LE, $15.00) is lighter, grayer. Maybelline Tough as Taupe (P, $6.99) is a cream product that is darker, cooler-toned. MAC Brains & Brawn (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Fashion Fix (P, $21.00) is slightly lighter. bareMinerals Exhale (P) is similar–has a satin finish, though. Bobbi Brown Pale Rose (LE, $29.00) is lighter, warmer. Bobbi Brown Slate (P, $29.00) is browner. See comparison swatches.
