Navy Blue Eyeliners: Your Guide

I think navy blue might be the color I have the most shades for!

1. Bobbi Brown Black Navy is a deep, dark navy that almost looks purple.
2. Make Up For Ever #8K is a deep navy blue. It is a touch darker than Dolce & Gabbana #8.
3. bareMinerals Noon is a blackened navy blue. (LE)
4. Dolce & Gabbana #8 is a deep navy blue with a sheen. It is a bit lighter than MUFE #8K.
5. Estee Lauder Blackened Sapphire is a rich, blackened navy blue with a matte finish. (LE)
6. MAC Marine Ultra is a lighter, but a darker blue with more brightness than other shades here.
7. MAC Prussian is a navy blue with a purple tinge and a soft sheen.
8. MAC Blooz is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to Givenchy #14.
9. Givenchy #14 is a blackened navy blue with a hint of purple. It is very similar to MAC Blooz.
10. NARS Rue Saint-Honore is a dark navy blue with a soft sheen. It is a touch more intense compared to Dolce & Gabbana #8 and MUFE #8K.
11. YSL Oriental Blue #3 is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a touch lighter than La Prairie Midnight Blue.
12. Korres #9 is a teal-ish blue (looked navy blue in the pencil!). (DC)
13. La Prairie Midnight Blue is a rich, navy blue with a matte finish. It is a bit darker than YSL Oriental Blue.
14. Chanel Marine is a shimmering navy blue.

17. MAC Petrol Blue is a dark navy blue with sparkle over a blackened blue base. This shade is similar to MUFE #8K and D&G #8.
18. MAC Blue Stripe is a blackened navy blue with a subtle sheen. It is darker and less sparkly compared to MAC Petrol Blue, and a touch darker than MUFE #3L.
19. Urban Decay Binge is a lightened navy blue with a hint of purple; it is a bit lighter than the other navy blues here.
20. Tarina Tarantino Cute Robot is a rich navy blue over a blackened navy base. It is comparable to NARS Rue Saint-Honore and MAC Petrol Blue.
21. MAC Sense of Style is a darkened, teal-blue with a black base. (LE)
22. MAC Navy Stain is a navy blue with subtle sheen.
23. MAC Hyacinth is a medium-dark blue with a matte finish. (LE)
24. MAC Industrial is a lightened, medium blue with a brownish-black base. It is similar to MAC Fly-By-Blu, but it has a lighter base.

Olive Green Eyeliners: Your Guide

You might think that the color I have the most shades for is olive green, but you would be wrong, even though there are quite a few! The nice thing here is that we have more than a few dupes/similarities. I like that, because then you can select based on what formula works best for you and still get the shade you want.

1. MAC Black Karat is a brownish-black with an olive-brown tone and gold shimmer. (LE)
2. MAC Black Line is a black with brown undertones and an olive green shimmer. (LE)
3. MAC Buried Treasure is a cool-toned brown with olive green shimmer. It is a little darker than MAC Uniform.
4. MAC Rosemary & Thyme is a light-medium olive green with green shimmer. It is similar to MUFE #5L (darker) and shu uemura ME Khaki 09 (less sparkle).
5. MAC Uniform is a cool-toned brown with olive gold shimmer. It is slightly lighter than MAC Buried Treasure.
6. Make Up For Ever #5L is an olive green with a soft sheen. It is a touch darker than MAC Rosemary & Thyme and shu uemura ME Khaki 09.
7. Stila Moray is a darkened olive green with an olive brown shimmer/sheen. It is a bit greener compared to UD Stash but not as green as bareMinerals 10AM.
8. shu uemura ME Khaki 09 is a warm olive green with brown undertones. It is a touch darker than MAC Rosemary & Thyme but lighter than MUFE #5L.
9. Urban Decay Stash is a darkened olive green with a subtle sheen. It is browner than Stila Moray and bareMinerals 10AM.
10. bareMinerals 10AM is an olive green with strong green pigmentation compared to the other shades here. It is greener than Stila Moray, UD Stash, and TT Sparkling Ammunition.
11. Tarina Tarantino Sparkling Ammunition is a darkened olive green with subtle shimmer. It is a bit lighter than Stila Moray but greener than UD Stash and browner than bareMinerals 10AM.
12. Chanel Khaki Dore is a warm-toned, olive brown with gold sheen.
13. Shiseido Black Sand is a green-tinged black with gold shimmer.
14. Bobbi Brown Hunter is a green-tinged black–against all these other eyeliners, it is so, so dark.
15. Dolce & Gabbana Stromboli is a deep black with olive shimmer.

bareMinerals Remix: The Next Big Thing

bareMinerals The Next Big Thing Eyeshadow Quad ($30.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new and limited edition palette for spring that features these four shades: The Rising Star (sunlit gold), Smash Hit (vibrant peach), Hoopla (glowing copper), and Ensemble (smoked-out plum).

The Rising Star is a lightened, yellow gold with a frosted, metallic finish. It almost looks cool-toned, as much as a yellow gold can. It had good color payoff in a single pass, and the texture was soft, dense, and buttery.  Too Faced Spun Sugar #5 is lighter. NYX Hot Yellow is less shimmery. bareMinerals Standing O is a bit lighter but still rather similar. MAC Treasure Hunt is less yellow and a cream product.

Smash Hit is a brightened coral-orange with a matte finish. The texture was soft, finely-milled but not powdery, and it had excellent pigmentation. MAC Coral is more orange and darker. MAC Dynamo is similar with some shimmer, and it is a cream product. Guerlain Les Fauves #3 is darker, redder. Make Up For Ever #5 is richer, darker.

Hoopla is a warm, coppery brown with a very frosted finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was mostly smooth. Tarte Tuscan Sun has a more metallic finish. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #6 is a touch browner. Urban Decay Penny Lane is less brown.

Ensemble is a dark, purple-burgundy with a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, but it wasn’t quite as dense or as pigmented as many other bareMinerals’ matte eyeshadows. It was not as easily blended on the eye as a very good matte would be, and with such dark color, blendability is really key. MAC Sketch is lighter and has subtle shimmer. Tom Ford Enchanted #4 is more shimmery. MAC Deep Damson is very similar in color.

I think the color composition is a very warm-toned mix, and there’s a nice variety of contrast and finish here so there are several combinations to play around with. Generally, all four shades were more dupable than not, so you may find you have similar shades already in your stash (particularly Hoopla, which is a popular shade found in most ranges).  The other three shades were soft, easy to apply, and blendable.  When I wore all four shades together, they wore for eight full hours with no fading or creasing (no primer).

Blue-Teal Eyeliners: Your Guide

I am a fiend for teal eyeliner–there is absolutely no doubt about that–and here are fifteen shades that seemed like blue-based teals (a few turned out to be a little green-based).

1. Make Up For Ever #12L is a darkened blue with a hint of teal. It is more shimmery than Tom Ford Exotic Teal.
2. Milani Aqua is a brightened teal with a hint of blue and frosted finish.
3. Urban Decay Flipside is a lightened blue-teal with a shimmery finish. It is lighter than Milani Aqua.
4. Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy is a darkened teal with a blue-based and a green-tinged shimmer/sheen.
5. Stila Peacock is a deep blue with a hint of teal and light sheen.
6. Tom Ford Exotic Teal is a deep, dark blue-based teal.
7. Estee Lauder Dramatic Teal is a dark, blue-based teal with a matte finish. It is a touch bluer than Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (LE)
8. Estee Lauder Electric Teal is a teal with blue undertones and a matte finish. It is greener compared to Estee Lauder Dramatic Teal and lighter than Tom Ford Exotic Teal. (LE)

Tint Your Lips with Tangerine this Spring

bareMinerals Tangerine Trance Loud & Clear Lip Sheer ($15.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “sheer citrus orange.” It’s a sheer, warm orange when swatched. Applied, it tints my lips a noticeable warm tangerine–not too red, not too orange. It’s the least like my natural lip color, but from a normal distance, it really looks natural and not at all like I’m wearing a lip color. Benefit Cha Cha is similar in color, but it has a very different formula.

With a comfortable, buttery balm-like consistency and texture, it doesn’t feel sticky or too slick that it slides around and disappears within an hour.  Tangerine Trance lasted three hours as a stain, but the moisture it added continued to be felt for another two hours after it was long gone.  It’s lightweight, orange-scented and -flavored with the former being particularly strong and noticeable.  I don’t notice the scent after it’s been on for a half hour or so.
